I just think the thing people aren't recognizing when factoring his potential impact here next year isn't that he's tearing up the Championship with goals and assists (although that's nice). It's that his technical level is so unbelievably high that he instantly upgrades a squad in dire need of more technicality the moment he is in it. People complain about us always getting dominated on the ball by these other top teams, well players like Amad are how you go toe to toe with these teams and keep the ball against them instead of having to resort to constant Rashford hoofballs.
Bingo. He'll be a big plus next season

Antony didn't look that impressive in Eredivisie, Depay looked impressive only if people thought he's getting so much space to run into as that was mainly what he did. Sancho fair enough, he never reached his Bundesliga level but he also doesn't seem to enjoy physicality of the league so that's where Amad has an advantage.

I disagree. Anthony had his critics but you can't say his Ajax performances were of lower quality than Amad at Sunderland. Depay wasn't only strong with space but also a flat track bully, but at 20 he was rated way higher than Amad. He was generally regarded as the finest young prospect in Europe.

I'm just saying people should keep their expectations in check. Amad has passed the first test and has deserved to play for us but it can go any way.

It's hard not to see him become a top player with his technique and perfectly weighted passes. It really is special.

He's going to be star for us. Players with his sytle and quality are rare.He seems to have matured (I was going to say improved, but I think matured is more relevant) a lot this year.He will be a real competitor to Antony next season

I fully agree with the general point. Amad for me is as exciting as Depay (I had doubts if he will be that effective in tight league as his goals often looked very "simple") and more exciting than Antony (tbh the only exciting thing about him was the fee, it made me think that I'm missing something because he didn't look impressive at all).
Antony might have had more impressive games for Ajax but that is part of the problem - I bet Sancho would look like a world beater if he played for a team averaging 65% possession (they still do this season, even though so many key players left).
Amad looks exciting because he looks like a natural footballer. I had similar good feelings about Januzaj who looked very very good and mature at young age, but just never converted this on serious level. Amad gives me hope because he already plays with grown ups.

It can go either way. But good to be exciting about young player that can help us in a position we actually still need to fix.

Let's hope, and yes Januzaj is a good example. He looked like a serious, serious player. The way he could just weave past players plus the vision he had at that age was something special but sometimes it just doesn't pan out.

Hoping Amad is the Januzaj that does work out

How is his defensive effort? This is one thing we will definitely need from our RW if we are to start Rashford/Garnacho on the left.

The reason why Antony makes us better as a team is because he adds another dimension to our play - ability to carry the ball and keep the ball moving out wide. I see the same dimension in Amad game, so I would love to give him a go for RW/RM position (we can argue what role Antony actually plays here but he's definitely not flying/attacking winger).

Based on the clips I watch every now and then, he looks like a Ten Hag kind of player, but I also said the same about Sancho before the season started so I'm not super excited until I see it happen.

100% agree. And Antony is really strong on the ball. The ‘revolutionary’ aspect of Pep’s style which ETH also use is that the wingers as a rule does not invert, but instead stays wide and drops down. And the fullbacks inverts. Watching City play, it is not unusual that only the GK and CBs are deeper than their wingers.

The benefit of this — vs having inverting wingers and overlapping full backs — is simply that you get a wide option faster, and then winger can also start at a position high up field as meet a long cross from the defense, which makes it much harder to defend against. If your fullbacks provides the wide passing options higher up field, it’s much easier to press them.

In this context, Antony is a great option. Why do people complain on him? It’s because he isn’t direct enough, that he doesn’t take the ball to the net more etc. And sure, he could improve there, but in the above context — it’s obvious why these shortages are secondary to ETH. Antony is very strong on the ball.

I also think that Sancho makes a lot of sense in ETHs system — but only really at LW. And that is the big problem. He doesn’t at all fit as well as Antony does at RW since he can’t meet the pass and cross it or pass with his strong foot to the center of the pitch.

Amad doesn’t have the strength or explosiveness of Antony — but just like you, I also think that he is a good fit in that role because he is so darn nifty/slippery and passes the ball so well.

Regarding Diallo’s defense — he is very team loyal. He tracks back well, and he is really good at getting first to loose balls. Physically, he can still improve though. I think that he is in perfectly OK shape, but he does tire pretty fast. This has especially been obvious when he has played as a No 9, and Sunderland have been without the ball a lot. He press the CBs a lot, but then he doesn’t have that much left in the tank when they win the ball.

I think that this kid can become a monster. He does have a lot of upside. I like Garnacho a lot, but I would definitely hold Dialllo higher right now. Garnacho got the quickness and speed — but the real upside in football lies with players that got the most between the ears. Who knows what ETH can do with Garnacho, but many players on our team will really find it a joy to play with Diallo.

I have never watched a full 90 minutes of him in the Championship, but from the clips and highlights it looks like he knows the league is too easy for him.

It takes the stars aligning for young players to make it at top clubs, and I hope it does for him!

Just watched a highlight video against Cardiff. He made a superb pass which is probably wasted eventually by the left winger. It simply shows his superior temporal and spatial awareness. Really impressive stuff.
Also, Sunderland is playing some impressive football in attack. Amad apparently established a great chemistry with many players. I just feel pity for Hannibal a bit. Imagine both Amad and Hannibal play in this sunderland team. It would be exciting!

To me, even before he went on loan, his technical abilities were never in question. It was clear to see from the day he steps into Carrington.

The biggest issue I had with him was his ability to play in a physically, robust environment.

In the past 15 months, you can see a gradual improvement in his ability to deal with and play in a physical environment. He has also added some muscle mass to his upper body now which I am sure is adding confidence to his game. He just needs to get more playing time in order to get a proper education.

To me, one of the most talented players Ive seen in the past few years. What this guy can do on the ball, is ridiculous.

Apart from injuries, this guy is a guaranteed future star. Should rotate / be backup to Antony. Frimpong, Bruno, Diallo/Antony on the right flank would be tasty.

I don’t know if it’s the standard of the championship but he makes football look easy and effortless. I’d say that Martial is the only natural talent in the first team who has that gift.

He probably lacks a yard of pace but definitely isn't slow.

He has the brain and technical ability to play at a high level though. You can see his brain thinking a few moves ahead.

His technique is just beautiful though, like an artist.

Excited to see him play for us next year. Hope he isn't loaned out again.

I think he can become a fan favorite.

He makes game looks so easy, also looks like few Sunderland players are on same wavelength, they link up play is good between them.

This has been a very promising loan spell for Amad, looks like a playmaker from wing position.

Bristol City’s Alex Scott and Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney the other candidates. The EFL Awards will take place on Sunday 23 April following the Lads league clash away to West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

Anyone watch the Championship to compare his season to Scott and Hackney? Apparently both are central midfielders so a straight stat comparison doesn’t quite work.

I haven't seen Hackney, but Alex Scott is a fantastic player and I should imagine favourite to win this. He's only 19/20 and yet Bristol City's play revolves around him in the centre of the park. He's been compared to Grealish in his style of play. He made his debut at 16 which says alot by itself and has quickly become a regular starter.

His control and reading of the game are some of the best in the Championship, he presses well and his one touch passing is second to none and he is effective across the pitch.

He will not be at Bristol City next year. Liverpool are rumoured to be in for him as a cheaper alternative to Bellingham. If he keeps up his current rate of development he'll be one hell of a player.

He should win over those two,

Hackney is a good player but has really only shown it the last half of the season,

Scott will be the biggest rival, I wouldn't be surprised if he got it as they don't seem to like giving the award to players on loan.
Scott already had plenty of premiership clubs after him, he's a talent.

With a solid midfield and defence behind them. Imagine a front 4 of Pellistri, Amad, Garnacho and a fully fit Martial. Fluidity on a different level :D

We should send Hannibal there next season if we take amad back.

Cheers both!

Nah even as a teenager here in his few appearances I think you could see it. There are certain players that just operate on a different wavelength than others because they never have to even think about "controlling the ball" or dribbling because of how natural it is. Him and Martial are two of those types of players. Thing is it's infuriating to watch them in a team that doesn't think about football the same way, as you'll see brilliant ideas that players like them will have in terms of passing and movement but they aren't carried out by their teammates.

Good amount of goals that.

His assist numbers are a bit less than you'd want given our fist team badly lacks creativity from wide positions.

But I've always believed a summer can be a long time for a young player and lots can suddenly change/click with them.

If he keeps creating 4 big chances/game then more assists are sure to follow.

Is that per game?

I haven't watched him at all this season apart from a few highlight vids. So if he's creating the chances and others are just failing to convert its all good.

Damn.. watched the clip of his touches vs Cardiff, I don't wanna get ahead of myself, but he is really good, I feel he can easily translate his current performances to the PL next season with proper easing him in and all, the closest player he is to is B.Silva, with the skill and that deceptive pace and the sound decision making in the final third, this loan has done him wonders and I am pleased with his progress this season

Actually, think I got that wrong. Most of the stats are per 90 but not that one.

I’ve watched him a few times this season. He’s impressed me every time.

He should've had more assists. It's definitely something he needs to add in the next phase of his development though. He hesitates sometimes in going for what he perceives to be low-percentage passes. He has the ability to play those balls imo, just needs to be more adventurous at times.

He seems to be doing just fine in the Championship - where you arguably need size and physicality more, so there's that

They are faster and bigger in the prem. hopefully he makes it at Utd. Looks a good player.

Its a "little bit" challenging to create chance when Sunderland don't have a striker in front of him

You’re right about his hesitance but his count doesn’t tell the full story. It’s quite reminiscent of Shaw in the 20/21 season where he created a shitload of chances, but there was an equal amount of shite finishes on the end of them (mainly Maguire headers), keeping his count to the minimum.

He had swagger. Even took a girl out for a first date to nandos after he signed a 30k a week contract. Goals.

He could have had a couple of assists in the Cardiff game alone, just from watching the highlights. 2 over the season does seem low, but that stat never really tells the full story.

I would prefer to have him integrated in the team next year rather than send him on another loan spell. The issue with PL loans is that you would need the player to be on a much higher level to those at the club already for them to perceive it worthwhile to play and develop him, and if he were to move to a relegation fodder to come off the bench then it’s better to give him some time off the bench here and allow him to play in cup competitions.

A top quality player should look a step above in the championship, like Grealish. Thankfully Amad does too. Id personally keep him in United squad next season but if he gets a loan it should be to a PL, club, if middlesbrough go up it would make sense with him already being in that part of the world and carrick being the manager.

Hes a big upgrade on Van de Beek and Elanga. Deserves to come back in - but if he wont get games does a season on the bench help him or us? Maybe a prem loan is needed. Utd squad is starting to look good again, Amad looks like he could play 10 as well.
