We are utterly shambolic at securing loans to decent clubs. Even when they're in the Championship it's to bottom feeders.

FFS. Someone like Amad to fecking Birmingham.

We've sent Chong, Mengi and now potentially Amad to Birmingham so we might have some agreement behind the scenes. For what it's worth, Chong made a big impact so at the very least we should be expecting a similar impact from Amad too.

He's a big talent, obviously, but I still think Mejbri's the best in our academy set up currently.

Yeah Hannibal's great but Amad outperformed him in the games they both played together which is why I say Amad.

According to this Birmingham fan they don't play much technical football so don't won't suit Amad at all.

He doesn't have raw pace or power. He is technical and silky smooth with an eye for assists.

If they aren't making passes in the final third Amad won't get to show what he can do very much.

There's nothing wrong with Championship loans, getting game time is the most important thing for him and if he's not going to get it in the PL then the Championship is the next best thing. Hasn't done any of Chelsea's youth players any harm.

The VDB, Amad and Pellestri window will be one of the all-time headscratchers. Vast amounts of money spent that addressed none of the gaps in the squad at the levels required.

Only at this club right now could we sign a youth prospect from Italy for nearly £20 million in a position we are poor in, leave him out in the cold for 12 months, then loan him out to a club in a near relegation fight in the championship mid season. Banter stuff is that.

£10m on Pellestri, £20m on Amad, £40m on Van de Beek. £80m on Maguire and £50m on Wan-Bissaka the season before. Nearly £200m on players that are unproven or shite. We're money laundering, there's no other explanation.

We were absolutely shocking at integrating youth under Solskjaer, has to be said.

I thought signing them two was signalling our intent that we're moving on from Sancho, only for us to go and sign him the next window for £73m anyway

Shame it's not to a club higher up the table in the championship.

Amad is our biggest talent in our youth setup by far. His performances for the first team showed a lot of promise and every performance for the under 23s has been brilliant bar his first game back from injury.

I won't pretend I watch Birmingham but hopefully they have enough stamp on games to allow him to influence matches.

If they have no control it won't matter how good Amad is, especially since he is a technical player who needs to be on the ball.

I will be watching their games going forward.

Chong, Mengi and Amad. I would go watch them live is the ground wasn’t such a sh!tehole.

If you send him to the Championship, then get him a club in the top ranks that is dominating. Cant be that difficult to find one that wants a talented attacking player to maybe push for promotion.

One of our worst windows over the last 10 years. Spent a lot of money on players that have contributed almost nothing to the first team. Amad and Pellestri are also both right wingers and then we buy Sancho the next summer.

TBH, he wasn't left out in the cold last season. He was supposed to be loaned out this season to prevent being left out in the cold. You might have a point with the loan choice but the rest of it is just moaning because he couldn't get ahead of Greenwood, Pogba, James and Rashford last season and Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho this season.

Only if you were blind. It was patently clear that we were gonna attempt to sign Sancho again for this season.

My best mates a Birmingham fan. Craig Gardner is their technical director and Darren Fletcher ours - believe they played together at West Brom so mates.

From what he said Chong was first name on their team sheet start of season and they actually played him as a number 10 with complete free rein to attack and a lot of their attacking was based on giving him the ball. Then he got injured. I imagine that Amad would be doing that as well as they play a 3412 with wingbacks not wingers. Only worry is he will get the shit kicked out of him. Mengi was straight in the lineup today and will play most weeks as they play 3 cbs and have a small squad. Probably a good chance for our youngsters to get full professional and competitive games under their belts but not exactly in a system that we use. Nothing worse than loaning these youngsters to clubs where they dont play or make up a squad place imo.

His performances where much better than James last season to be fair to him.

Only VDB is the head-scratcher. He probably isn't as good as we had hoped he would be outside the Ajax bubble.

Pellestri hasn't performed in this re-loan, and Amad was supposed to have gone on loan until he got injured. Remember he only got to United in Jan 2021.

Worth noting Birmingham just lost McGree whose loan has ended, who was getting games in attacking midfield. Game time is the most important thing.

And that’s saying something. Who in the hell sanctioned those signings, mind boggling stuff.

That's the beauty of internet forums. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Its called fog of war or in my area of speciality -- I always say that you can't see the forest for the trees after 3-6 months of a startup though there are ways to mitigate that.

Surely we could have agreed a loan in December or something so he was ready to go on January 1st?

More mismanagement.

We should be giving Amad first-team opportunities, but if the club are insistent on loaning him out, we can surely do better than a struggling Championship side.

It's no bad thing if the Birmingham move has collapsed.

Im as frustrated as anyone (we couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery etc etc) but we were actually unfortunate with his injury. I think we should send as many players out as possible at the start of the season to the highest level that will regularly play them. No point in sending amad to palace or somewhere and never playing. He probably needs to pay his dues at a lower level first.

I thinnk Ole wanted to try mimic FM; buy talents as many talents you can hoping one could be a star. The major problem however was everyone was in the same position

Note to Richard 'me-love-social-media-engagements-and-totally-all-such-other-data' Arnold: when you really do have someone good enough that other clubs are competing for the loan, require clubs to prove they have the 'empty space/minutes', then play them off against each other, which will in turn lead to them respecting you for doing your due diligence.

Wasn't that while 'of course I'll play the youth because it's in our DNA' was still here.

Another in the list many blunders that United board has done in past few years. Like what was the point of spending so much on an unproven player?

Ralf has already said he's treating the game tomorrow like a regular PL game. Zero chance he starts. We need to get him out on loan asap. He's lost a year and a half of development time.

Considering every other club is using youth players, I can't help but be quite disappointed if this is true. I bet Villa will have a few young lads in their line up.

The overrating of Amad here is mental. I am a massive fan and think he has huge potential, but feck me, some weird takes in here.

He'll get a loan and if he's as good as people are claiming he is, it wont really matter where he goes because he's better than any of our first team players and Elanga - apparently.

Had that Feyenoord loan come off, everything would have been fine.

Pretty much. He's obviously got talent, but he needs to play in a half decent league and prove himself over the course of a season or at least half of one. Potential is only potential, as we saw with Januzaj there's no divine right for you to progress over time and realize it. I'd hope for a premier league loan, or a championship loan if not. Something to stay in England and get more used to being there on and off the pitch.

While when we signed him we obviously thought he was an incredibly outstanding player for his age group, the truth is that because he hasnt been playing (and his injury) there are others in his age group that have been playing and proving themselves at a higher level than he has. He doesnt stand out as much as a prospect now because of that. So he needs to get back on track now and theres time to do that, but not if he isnt playing and another year goes past.

It really is, basically based on a few clips of Atlanta youth games, a few decent reserve games and a couple of underwhelming first team appearances. He's done nothing to suggest he should be in the first team picture here. Hopefully a loan proves otherwise.

Exactly. Feels like there's some rewriting of history as well - we bought him when he'd played less than 90 mins for Atalanta, so I'm not sure anyone from United expected him to be in the first team yet. Great if he could, but injuries have stopped a more linear progression.

Not sure why Elanga is getting stick for Amad not starting, considering how long he's proved himself at the club and is clearly much more physically suited to the league.

This. Absolute catastrophe, any top 4 club can start challenging for the title with such amounts spent on additions.

More importantly for me Elanga has done some good things by the stats when he has played his few matches. He's scored goals from just a few chances and then when he didnt last time out, he made our most presses on the pitch and did it from a striker role. So if you cant see why a manager would be happy with a young player going out onto the pitch and delivering in those ways, you'll never be happy.

Those are the things Amad needs to do as well and sometimes he has done with a nice set up for someone else, but he needs to deliver more consistently like Elanga has done in his few outings.

Totally agree.

With you as well @Leftback99
