Alvaro Morata

feck sake, why? Arnautovic would have been bad enough, he’s a proven premier league failure at Chelsea. Should be looking at players who are in their early to mid 20’s and look ready to make the next step up in their careers , like we done with the like of Evra, Carrick, RVN, Cantona, Ferdinand, Keane etc

He's a world beater, which is why Chelsea binned him off within 18 months of paying £60m for him.

No he is not a world beater.

He is a million miles away from being a donkey. Which is why Chelsea were able to sell him for 58 million.

I'm on your side in this, but we also managed to get a hefty fee for Lukaku

Lukaku is the opposite player.

Hence why calling him a donkey is something you often hear. He is all goals and not much else. In fact if you could combine them you would have something special.

I don't even care about him not rating Morata it is just about as bad of a use of the phrase "donkey" as I have ever heard.

He actually is a classy player who lacks composure.

In the right system, he’s a valuable asset

Key wording in that tweet is "physical back-up striker".

Morata was an absolute flop at Chelsea as they brought him in for a huge fee to be their main striker but he couldn't manage more than 11 league goals.

Buying him for a lower fee to be a back-up striker whose main value to the squad is intended to be what he adds in general play isn't the same thing and involves much lowered expectations. I don't see any reason he couldn't adequately fill that function.

Whether we should buy that profile of forward at all is a different question but given the circumstances....

Tecnhically he's great: good dribbling, clever movements and passing. His composure just doesn't click, unfortunately.

Imagine if Morata was the target all along and the Arnautovic debacle was fake news designed to soften us to the possibility of signing Alvaro.

For what it’s worth, I quite like him but it would really feel we’re shopping from the lower shelves if we signed he and Rabiot.

Whatever you do, don't call this guy a donkey though.
He's an erratic finisher. Erverything about his game outside of that is very good. His career has consisted of playing for 4 of the best teams in the world.

Morata must have the best agent in football, bar none. The number of top clubs he's played for despite never scoring more than 20 goals in this modern era where defending is harder than ever.

I think Morata is anything but physical. He’s great outside the box but seems to lose himself when he’s in it

We lack goals, so we’re looking at a striker who even his supporters say is shit at scoring goals. I get that we need some bodies in but, Morata? There must surely be better options out there.

The only players in our squad with form for scoring goals recently are Ronaldo and Bruno, and Bruno fell off a cliff last season.

Yeah I'm really surprised he's being described as a Costa type. He always seemed meek to me. Did Simeone change him?

He's not a physical striker for feck sake. Tall doesnt equal physical.

Physical strikers ain't useless in the box.

Which system do you think would be the right one for him?

The only system I can think of that suits Morata is one where, even as a striker, he is not meant to score any f'n goals.

The guy is a massive wobbler. If we're thinking Man Utd has a mentality problem I cannot see how bringing in Morata, of all people, improves the situation.

I'm not trying to hate. The guy has had a top career and is, clearly, a billion times better at football than I will ever be. Hand on heart though I'm more confident he will miss a 1v1 than score it when I see him through on goal. Yet another player who just cannot translate training pitch performances to matches where there's real pressure.

If the fee is low, he is a really good choice and just like a little younger version of Welbeck coming back. He might not score a lot of goals but he can bring the others scoring. Especially useful to fill the squad depth gap. But, is the fee low, like 14mil?

Which system do you think would be the right one for him?
Ten Hag's system would be quite good for it where we need a hard working, link up guy through the middle. He'll help a lot defensively right from the top, and give us an out ball so we can go long to him, he is great with his head so we can put crosses in, and he is good at hold up and link up play. I think he'd suit us very well. Its obviously a desperate situation, but he would be a good signing despite this for a few years.

So far just an offer. I'd take him as a backup, at a backup's wages. But if it's not at a backup's wages, I'd prefer we look for someone young and hungry.

The general takes on this forum are becoming more and more reactionary since Sunday. He improves us quite a bit and suits the style of play very well, have faith in the system that EtH is trying to implement! If we have to take micro steps to improve and gradually improve season upon season then lets do that. We don't need sexy names right now, we need players who improve us and suit the managers demands. We also need bodies given how wierd a season this is. Morata absolutely does this. Him + Rabiot for anything less than 30m is very good business given how many gaps are in the team. If we end up signing 6 or 7 players this window who improve the first team on paper and fit the team in terms of style, it would be a relatively decent summer. The market isn't great.

In an ideal world next summer I'd say go for Toney, I think he's class.

When it comes to profile of player that EtH wants, let's go by positions which he wants to address.

Striker - physical, good link up play, presses all day long.

Midfielders - being able to receive the ball on the half turn and run with it further up the pitch. Good positioning and can play through the lines. Also needs to be able to press all day long. We need a minimum of two, Rabiot is not enough.

Goalkeeper - sweeper keeper who comes of his line to squeeze play and also excellent with the ball at his feet.

Right back - the opposite of AWB

Right winger - pressing, left footed, can beat a man with skill and pace, excellent at progressing the ball. Also another asset that's quite important..... you guessed it! Pressing all day long.

Would be interested in all of your thoughts on this, maybe I'm too optimistic, but I think all these players improve us and probably would make us favourites for the europa league.
Exactly. A lot of people are saying we are in panic buy mode. From my observation, quite a lot of them are actually reacted in a panic mode since Sunday.

He's a decent back up option, he was great for Madrid in that role. His overall skillset is actually great, it's just that he can't score consistently, otherwise he'd be an amazing striker.

Better than Arnautovic, that's for sure. Would be decent on loan. But who are we not linked to?

ATM it's Morata, Sarr, Gakpo, Rabiot, FdJ, Savic, Guido Rodriguez. Am I forgetting any? Who do people think we'll actually sign out of the names I just listed?

I wouldn't be that sure mate. At least he's younger and not that injury prone (I guess).

As a player he's better than Marko.

At what? Hold up play? No. Finishing? No. Technically? No. He sure has better stamina as Arnautovic has fecked himself up in that sense during his days in China but apart from that I'm not sure where Morata is that much better. He'd give us more years and isn't a complete tool but talking purely about the footballing side of things I'm not sure. At least he's still quite a lot younger so I'd probably take him.

We have enough mental midgets at the club. No need to add another.
