Here is the 2 formats we can have -

Approach A

4 groups of 3
2 teams go through to make it 8 teams for knockout stage
The total matches would be same as when we have 16 teams.
Since it only 3 teams per group, it unlikely we will have any dead rubber games.

Approach B

Knockout straight away.
12 teams down to 6 after round 1. Down to 3 after round 2. Then best loser of round 2 makes up the last(4th) semi finalist.

----------

Hmm...that's 19 total games in Approach A vs 12 total games in Approach B if I've done my sums right. I'm easy either way really. Neither number seems excessive to me, although with Approach A I'd probably prefer no reinforcements after the group stages, as 8 managers would be fighting it out for the best players from only 4 teams.

Approach A! Clearly more fun and a bit experimental too. Think we need it in this draft and two games will give the beginners a second chance - and all players will get to have at least two matches with discussion.

This is the most confusing draft ever. I've not the slightest idea what you guys are doing.

The auction stage of the draft has finished. The managers with money left and places in their squad to fill are now completing 2 rounds of snake drafting - you need to pay at least 10m to enter each round of snake drafting, with whoever pays the most getting to pick first. They just need to hurry the feck up about it, as I'm bored shitless here!

It's the main drawback of the auction draft format with interested observers unable to really follow what the hell is going on.

Approach A: One team could lose two in a row (third is a dead rubber, unless you make it that reinforcements are defined by final standing, with the four winners going first). You could also have all teams winning one and losing the other (you could, really). How do you settle it then? They play each other again? Vote difference?

Approach B: Much better, group stages really do get dull, particularly once you work out one team is never going to make it yet you have to watch them lose TWICE. If anyone wanted to see how a group of three works, make all losers in round 2 play a 3-way playoff, and watch the paint dry.

Funny how people complain about snakes taking forever, we are on Day 12 here, while both the Reality and Managers SNAKE drafts took 11 days (Tevezbola included). The quality of the content -and the ease to find it- is better as well.

I don't get it really, you basically end up spending MORE time while having to be paranoid all day someone may have been nominated and if you relax too much before checking back in it may cost you a 5M or 10M raise... The format always ends up identical as well: wham bam at the beginning, then a long procession of people securing players for 10M. If anyone ever needs to work out what non-aggression pacts were meant to look like, they should read up one of these.

The pool here being way too big for a draft for 12 men is the reason to why people have ended up with this 10 mill bid strategy. It is not just big but very balanced as well in terms of the players going in round 2-3 and 10-12.

I do think there is a general issue with auction drafts as they are right now though in terms of people spending it all early then just riding out cheap bids. It easily solved though by removing the limitation on players per round which was always bound to push people in to overspending early.

I'm with Anto- group stages always seem to drag on for ages. Straight knockout for me.

We will have groups of 3 so if someone loses 2 matches, he is out?

There simply can not be a dead rubber in a group of 3 teams I think

That is correct. In a group of three there would be three matches and every match would be absolutely crucial. Would be really brilliant. The third match wouldn't be dead rubber you'd arrange who would play against the winner of the other groups?

We need to speed this up

Does any one care if we pick second draft picks after the draw is made? I doubt it matters.
