All ticket/travel information thread - 2024/25 edition - Ticket Purchasing FAQ in OP. Please read it and be careful purchasing tickets

sorry to be the boring one but I‘m very pleased they are doing this. Sick of people being at aways who shouldn’t be, either paid a stupid price or got a ticket off a mate etc, if you fit the criteria and get lucky in the ballot you deserve to be there, if you don’t, and don’t, then you don’t. It’s completely unfair on the majority and I believe they will be doing this more and more

Reminds me of VAR. Be careful what you wish for.

I never wanted VAR

i also don’t want people in the crowd who’ve paid a tout stupid money or only got the ticket because of a mate etc while others who go to every game at Old Trafford in all comps miss out

Yes I hear you but its never that simple is it.

If the away games were done on a proper loyalty basis I'd be far more all for it.

Anyway I'm biased as I pick up 90% of my aways through a network of people I've built up from going away for 15 years, often ticketless. Not through ST ballots.

Have two tickets for the spurs game in N4406 I'm wanting to swap (got a wedding that weekend) for two Watford tickets. DM me if interested :)

One membership =one ticket
You also can’t transfer . It goes back to the club who will rerelease it

Understood. So, hypothetically in a situation like this where it's sold out would that fixture on the official site then just show as available?

physically not possible no.
ID checks at home games aren’t that common but they do happen every game, at aways it’s very common.
due to the way away tickets are sold you have to collect with ID and even then they do randomly check at the turnstiles too

Understood. So for matches in the UK when I've been able to pickup away tickets at a pub beforehand, is this because you can apply for multiple tickets domestically or because they're just not as stringent about checking?

I think you’ve misunderstood, you definitely can’t apply for multiple tickets, ever. picking up aways at a pub beforehand (often for stupid money) is common. But it’s also illegal, and United and the home, team are getting more stringent about checks. In theory you have the ticket you get entry, but if they decide to check your ID and the ticket isn’t yours you’re screwed. I know multiple people got stopped at Burnley last night, my 10yr old son was one of them!

It would appear I have, apologies for the ignorance. Granted, the last away match I attended was in 2010. I've always bought from fans who had an extra and never paid over face value , I don't have a ton of patience for punters. That's good to know going forward, then. I suppose I will frantically be refreshing the official ticket site in hopes for some coming available on there. Again, thank you for taking the time to educate me.

Just out of interest, how would they know if the ticket isn't yours? It doesn't state your name or number on the ticket itself. At least not for domestic aways.

I'm unsure, I read it as long as your ticket has been at least used/forwarded then it should be fine?
Yeah that's right, but if you can't use it yourself you've got more pressure now to find someone to give it to/to buy it from you and you'll have to trust that person to use it properly, which is why I think a ticket exchange on their site is a must (as it has been for many years now really), there is the option to donate the ticket to the MU Foundation as well which counts towards it being used if you can't go

Chubbed for City after Leeds and Burnley too.

As in last nights game, the selected few season tickets who were chosen had their away tickets cancelled and they had to collect them from the Burnley ticket office using photo ID, so that’s how they know it’s you.

Talking of touts, I was on the train coming back to Manchester from Burnley last night, the lad that was sat next to me had flown in from Limerick, paid for 2 nights in a hotel and then had to pay £200 for his ticket. It’s time we had another random Leicester away where we all had to collect our tickets via an ID check. Weed out a few of the professional touts. We all have the good mates who we can get a spare away ticket from which isn’t a problem.

Personally and I know this would be controversial... but I think after a certain number of consecutive away ballot failures, you should be guaranteed an away ticket for the next game e.g. if you miss out 5 matches in a row, you should get the 6th etc. It wouldn't make a huge difference for most people as they wouldn't get that many chubbings in a row... but it would make it more fair for the few that do.

Just do it on loyalty points? Seems like pretty much every other club do.

No need for some funky solution like yours.

Maybe you can allow 20% of it as a free for all for all ST holders.

There has always been a loyalty pot , I was a member of this exclusive club for many years then missed an application and that was that, now I think you can miss a couple of apps a season and stay in. You have to think that if we get an allocation of 3,000 there aren’t going to be many left to be distributed to 50,000 season ticket holders. There’s the loyalty pot want theirs, the execs who spend up to £250k for a box will want a good cut. Then the officials, players and sponsors and all other hangers on want some so I bet there is only about 1500 left for the likes of us. All down to the luck of the draw.

Loyalty points could certainly work but to make it fair you should earn the same points for applying as you do for being successful because they are way oversubscribed for every away… and since ballots are random, it wouldn’t be fair to penalise a fan who gets chubbed.

They’d also have to realistically step up the random collections if they do that to discourage fans from just applying to games they can’t attend themselves just to collect the loyalty points.

Cant be many more than 300 left in that original loyalty pot now, if that.

I know it was about 800 ten years ago.

520 odd left in the loyalty pot with a success rate of 80% across the season so the split tends to go 400-450 loyalty pot, 300 execs, rest of allocation to the standard pot.

Interesting. Not doubting you but did Utd publish that info?

Just a heads up for next season and the requirement to attend games.

I’ve just looked at the history section on my ticket account and it’s got both me and my son marked as not attending the Villa cup game last month - “Unattended transaction per Cup Scheme "2021/22 - FA CUP (Mandatory)".
We were both there, I’m going to email and I’ve got a record on my bank statement of what was spent at the kiosk inside if they want to argue about it.

It’s obviously a glitch which could cause problems when they take attendance into account next season, if it reoccurs.

I've just looked at mine and it's the same for 4 cup games this season when I've not missed any. I'll email as well, thanks for pointing it out.

EDIT: It's all cup games. The other 2 CL games don't even show in the history.

I've only managed 2 games now i'm a mere member this season, and they've managed to miss 1 of those out of my history!
Yet have the return for Brighton in there.

I remember back in the day when Ken Ramsden was the club secretary I did him some favours and used to get him in the exec suite at the airport , he told me that if I ever struggled to get an away ticket just ring him and it would be sorted. I only ever took advantage of this twice , one of these games was Portsmouth away as I was visiting family down there. I went to collect the ticket from OT and the lad pulled out a shoe size box with about 50-100 envelopes in and found mine with 2 tickets , so I am guessing all of them contained tickets for all the hangers on and mates of mates etc. I rue the day when Ken retired ,

@Whatsername @Sandikan the ticket office just replied to me saying:

"The term "unattended transaction" refers to the payment process it means the transaction was automatic and not done manually. It has no relation to the attendance of you physically."

I have this showing on my ticket history, I phoned them up and told them that I did attend the Boro game and every other home game this season. He explained that loads have phoned up about it but it is worded wrong and it’s nothing to worry it’s something to do with how you have paid for the tickets. Panic over

I've used this site for 8 years and never thought about asking about tickets..

I'm looking for 2 together for Southampton. Please DM if anyone can help out :)

Does anyone know if the ticket exchange for away tickets is still in operation?

You used to be able to transfer an away ticket to someone that was chubbed in the ballot for that particular game.

Nah it's not you return to the club and they put them on the website

I thought you were allowed to transfer the ticket to someone who applied in the ballot but that you have to pass on the physical ticket to that person. In practice, it means it’s pointless to make the transfer through the club.

Yeah my bad looks like you can still forward, I had a mate try it earlier in the season who said it didn't work anymore. Like you say it's only if they applied and you have to physically pass on.
