That's because of how their Kit deals are structured vis a vis ours. They do more in house and so it reflects on the costs too. Meanwhile we reflect less of the Nike numbers.

Otherwise after the Chevrolet deal and our other commercial deals, we should be number 1.

Yes indeed

We are No1 on the commercial side - best just to ignore Minger, he's been constantly clueless about the business side for a long time now.

We are still fourth beyond Real. Barca and Bayern for commercial revenues.

The Glazer's have done nothing that the PLC would t have achieved. In fact, we are under performing arguably

If we had the same TV deals here as they do in spain we would be the number one revenue earning club; thank god we have continued to back the present system.

I'm no finance expert, but from what I do understand from the sponsorship deals (especially the chevrolet one) and the improvement in our debt situation, we are in a very strong position currently.

Fergie never would, but is it fair to say that he probably could spend more this summer than he has been able to in recent years, if he chose to?

The share price is now up just over 31% since flotation in August.

This gives United a market cap of £3.06bn!

The latest quarterly update and analyst briefing is being broadcast online at 1pm.

Anyone listening ?

We have a new training Kit sponsor. Will be announced soon in the coming days/weeks. Club are delighted with the terms of the new deal.

Not listening to the call, but just going through the press release, those are some serious numbers they are announcing. Amazingly enough, there are now 780 people working directly for United. That's a lot of bloody people to support a football team!

The big concern for United has to be the rate that the wage bill is going up, even though it is a relatively low percentage of turnover. 14.3% increase year on year. That puts a lot of pressure on to increase turnover. At some point you've got to think that the capacity to increase turnover is going to stall...

Doing well in terms of revenue, commercial up 29% and sponsorship is up 49%

Negotiations ongoing with Nike.

Acquisition of MUTV is with regards to Digital media strategy. In 2014 expect new digital media products.

Much of the recent upward pressure on wages comes from City, PSG etc. Who, apart from sugar daddy clubs, and perhaps Real/Barca, can offer more money than us? The new financial regs should at least stop the sugar daddies. I'd say there's a good chance wage increases in football will slow down in the next few years.

Wonder which executive will get sacked now with our training kit deal ? :p

8 year sponsorship. Must be substantially bigger than DHL, so that we bought that one out too.

Just ready Andy Green's (andersred) latest blog on our finances. He is more or less saying that within the next five years we will become more or less debt free. Huge increases is TV money, shirt sponsors, kit deal and also the impact of FFP will see huge profits.

Would not surprise me if it were one of our existing sponsors, maybe even a DHL renewal at a far higher rate. We clearly executed a get-out clause in our deal with them, so they should not be too pi$$ed off at us.

Think I am right in saying that 8 years would take us to the end of the Chevrolet deal, so maybe they are stumping up for this too?

Why would DHL do that ?

That last deal in itself was something unique and big in any sport considering the exposure vis a vis the main kit. Surely, we would not have walked out of that deal without knowing something better was surely available just on a hunch.

Maybe the upside they are seeing is big and therefore they wanted to renew.

I agree it is unlikely to be them, but you never know - stranger things have happened.

pissed off that I didnt buy some of these shares earlier! watched them for a while and not much was happening then they rocketed

I read on twitter our profit margin has risen 70%? how/is that true?

Was he not the guy who falsely claimed Fergie would benefit from the IPO?

I don't think he was. He may have said it in his blog too, but I think it was that MUST nuter Duncan Drasdo who said that.

Andersred is always a great read. Very detailed analysis and is never afraid to admit his mistakes.

Yes he did - he said it on Sky News and later retracted his statement.

However, he also seems to be changing his tune on the financial side - I (and others) did tell him a few years ago when he used to post on this very forum that he had got it all wrong, finally he seems to accept that.
As mentioned above, although he always has a certain slant to his blog, his analysis is worth a read and he does admit when he got it wrong.

So if we are 100% debt free in a few years and the Glazers continue to release shares, the club is in a wonderful position. I've said it from the start that while complete leeches they have done one thing very well and that was leaving the football side of the business to the football experts. Clearly the acid test of that will be when SAF leaves and the new manager runs into trouble for the first time, do they then start getting involved or do they try to wait it out. A lot to learn and no way to know.

One thing for sure, the club is better with educated leeches than dumb sugar daddys.

They got lucky to a certain degree. They arrived at the right time and at the right club. They could not have done it at any other club. The explosion in TV money, the huge Chevrolet deal and also the implementation of FFP was not guaranteed 8 years ago, but it all played into their hands.

The great thing they did is the splitting of the commerical partnerships across markets and geographies.

Rood is right. Just had a look at a few articles and he was one of those who claimed Fergie would benefit from the IPO.

He made an apology to Fergie via the media and on his website.

I don't think luck played much of a part to be honest. They are very astute business people who most people in football underestimated, perhaps because they're Americans in Soccer or perhaps because they all look like inbred leprechauns.

The way they have forged through new barriers for United with commercial deals for everything has been amazing. The biggest windfall of all is yet to come with the clubs ownership of it's own media rights which for me was the one thing they have been waiting for. Of course they couldn't do it with any other club. We had the fanbase, the stadium and SAF. Perhaps that's why they didn't buy another club!

Do you still reckon we need the Red Knights to come along and save us, Anders?

Come to think of it, what is Keith Harris up to these days...

Oh that's right, he's being blocked by the Football League from taking over Pompey in order to allow the supporters trust to gain control!! You couldn't make it up!!

Humble pie all round me thinks (well apart from yours truly obviously!)

Love United, love the Glazers.

 I take it he has been banned from this site because he has not been on for a while.

If he has he shouldn't have been but I doubt he has anyway. As annoying as he was at times he always put his point across in a decent and articulate manner despite being insulted over and over. Different opinions are what makes a forum great and this one in particular benefits from an openness to express an unorthodox opinion without fear of banning.

Doesn't look like he was banned but he hasn't posted since the summer. He was having a mare in the Welbeck thread and was opposed to the RvP transfer. Probably embarrassed after that TBH.
