I think its neither here nor there for United as a club. We're not likely to issue any more shares in the medium term.

The Glazers though would prefer it to stay reasonably high. Once the lock-in period is done, they're probably hoping to slowly divest some more shares. They'll hardly lose any control since the shares instantly lose 90% fo their voting rights once they're sold outside the family.

Maybe it is better then for the shares to hold their value. Hopefully when they need cash, they'll get it that way rather than look for dividends etc. from United.

Good point. All the hoopla makes it difficult for them to take a dividend from their own business. So the selling of a few shares without any diminution of control provides a good alternative.

Don't be surprised if MUST and andersred discover that the sale of shares represents yet another heinous threat to the football club. :smirk:

The thing is, as MUST have said, the lower it goes, the lower our club is valued, meaning the easier it is for people/consortiums (Red Knights?) to buy.

There is of course a plus side to the share price going up, but as I said earlier, I cannot remember it at all.

Are you serious? Red Knights....

If there aren't any more shares released, how does it make it easier for them?

Not necessarily them, but anyone interested in buying the club would be more interested in buying if it was valued at £800m rather than £2bil+.

Because there'd be an official valuation of the club. Not that they'd have to listen to said valuation, but it'd be there in print to see. Obviously at the moment they'd only be able to buy so many shares, but if the Glazers ever did consider selling (again?) they'd need to put a more realistic price tag on us.

I just heard on talksport that the share value has dropped to $5?

That is horrifying news if true :nervous:

You? Horrified about United? Never!

Why do you have to give me so much grief? I'm sorry if my frustration with the team in the past has leaked out over the pages of the matchday forum.

The share price at the moment is something that every united fan should be worried about. As it stands the clubs valuation is not much greater than our debt.

The value of these shares, imo, doesn't reflect the value of the club. The shares have no associated power with them - if you own all of these shares, you've got a 10% share in the club's ownership and a 1% say in what happens.

What in God's name are you talking about?

The present share price values the club at about £1,800m. Post IPO the debt is about £350m.

Pretty much every post from you is about how crap United are, and how they are doomed.
I'm often a pessimist on United. And I forsee a poor season without any more signings. But I'm Mr Sunshine compared to you. Stop exagerrating the negatives on United.

There is not enough shares issued by United to make the theoretical value of United just a talking point.

As pointed out 10% of the shares have been listed with 1% voting right. Even if the shares collapsed to $5 it wouldnt make much difference to what the Glazers would be willing to sell the club at as they control 90% of ownership with 99% of the voting rights.

Doesn't sound a huge amount anymore does it. It's amazing how blasé we get about these amounts of money when they are repeated so often.

Look i'm not exagerating anything. When i was driving to work this morning this is was what was being reported on the radio!

If you wanna bollock someone go and have a word with Richard fecking Keys.

Just give me a break would you? I've got enough shit in my life without you constantly belittling me.

The issue seems to be you don't know what you are talking about.

If you've got some tough stuff happening in your life then you have my sympathy, and I hope the future is brighter. But your constant negativity on United on here just rubs me the wrong way.

Look mate i was only repeating what i heard on the radio. I'm wrong and i hold my hands up to that.

Fair enough, I do think we are seeing a reaction not so much to that post though, but rather the theme of your posts. Might be something to look into, but then you might feel perhaps we are all too overly optimistic. Either way that's your choice, but it might help with the reactions like above.

I'm sorry if i've aggravated you in the past. I don't mean to be negative.

I wasn't being a doom-monger today though. Keys and Gray and another guy on talksport were having an in-depth discussion into how the IPO has been a disaster and that the club is wide open for a takeover.

:(

No, my whole point was not to be negative.

It wasn't in regard to you personally mate, more in response to how people in general see me.

On a side note I'm sorry for derailing this thread.

I don't know why you've been suddenly tagged as Mr Negativity you always struck me as being a normal caf Joe in terms of up/down.

I was only kidding with that last post, and you didn't really derail anything.

Yeah, I heard it too, they did say it like that was the actual share price.

I was doubtful though.

Think of it this way. Would you be surprised if your house lost two thirds of it's value overnight?

We're talking about the value of a business with known income streams and outlays. What could possibly cause that value to drop from £1,800m to £600m in 24 hours?

Looks like there's a support level at 14.129, every time it dips someone starts buying.
