UTD fans "rip off, klopp spending fortunes, hes only had one season, hes not as good as DDG"

Football fans in general "massive upgrade regardless of transfer cost etc."

I know which i'll believe.

We have no basis to compare him with DDG as it stands, and it quite frankly doesnt matter. LFC are trying to strengthen their weaker areas, it's that simple.

If i said to UTD fans, here Varane's available for 130 mill....i bet every single one would be keen regardless of price....He'd be a massive upgrade on the Smalling, Jones, Lindelhofs of the world....even Bailly.

If he is better than Ederson, he's worth top dollar. Could take them to the next level.
I have to admit Kopp is potentially building a very good team there - particularly one that is focused on the high energy and pace he wants from his players
........................................Alisson..................................
Alexander Arnold...Van Dyke...........Gomez..........Robertson

Mignolet, Ward Klaven, Ings, Solanke, Woodburn - and talk that Brewster could even be in contention

To be honest that looks a pretty decent squad and provided Salah and Firmino can replicate last seasons form they have to be considered potential challengers for the league I think - and the vast majority of that team will be klopp signings... yes they have had a lot of income from player sales and they have spent all that and a big old chunk of money on top but he really does look to be building a good squad there

surely need to see how many shots they faced? for example, Nick Pope was probably peppered compared to those other keepers towards the top

Fantastic post, mate.

Looks like we are finally getting a top quality keeper, haven't had one since Pepe Reina in his prime 10 years ago. If we can get to the final of the CL and perform the way we did with that squad last season, I'm definitely excited to see what we can do this season.

Liverpool need a new goalkeeper coach or else they'll just ruin Allison just like all the other keepers they signed. No coincidence that all those promising keepers that went to Liverpool ended up deteriorating to complete rubbish afterwards.

Don't know what this is in response to in particular, but a large amount of the criticism I've seen regarding Liverpool's spending has been specifically aimed at Klopp for being hypocritical. He made a big point to say that he wanted to do things differently than the managers that spent large amounts on individuals, clarifying that he wouldn't do it even if he could. Yet here we are, with him having already made Van Dijk the most expensive defender ever, on the verge of him making Alisson the most expensive goalkeeper ever. It's all well and good bringing up net spend but that's not what people are criticising.

I think most United fans are actually a bit fearful of the squad you're putting together now. You've spent a decade plus going for the bargain option and it's barely ever, if at all, worked out, and your squad has constantly been left with gaping holes and a severe lack of strength in depth. Bit by bit you're adding that much needed quality, addressing longstanding issues, and finally beginning to add some strength outside of your starting line-up. It just happens that you've done this while spending a shit ton of money on individuals just a year or two removed from your manager saying he categorically would not do that. The final piece for Liverpool is to now keep hold of their best performers.

Perfect! He has a great record to be fair to him!

Yup, looks quality to be fair.

No matter what stats you look at he's near the top. Only 8 keepers had more than 17 clean sheets (Alisson was one of them). If you check the amount of minutes it takes for him to concede a goal (118.9mins - 8th). He's pretty young too (25 keepers aged 25 or younger in the list).

He’s turned you from a doubter to a believer hasn’t he Alex?

Liverpool still haven't addressed their woeful defence. They are still going to line up with Arnold at RB who is defensively suspect when Salah or whoever on the right isn't covering him. Look at the Roma away game and the games towards the end of last season.

Their defense would be

Arnold - Lovren - Van Dijk - Robertson.

That right side is terrible. If Van Dijk or Robertson gets injured then they would have to play Matip, Klavan (lol at those two) or Moreno (probably the worst LB in the premier league - Look at West Brom games last season at how atrocious he is.)

They haven't replaced Coutinho in midfield. They have no creativity in midfield and will struggle to break down compact defenses yet again.

Again, their attack is miles ahead of the rest of their team. They haven't really addressed their problems last season (other than the GK and that's IF they sign Allison.)

Note, I'm not a Man Utd fan...just a casual observation.

Well every club earns the money they spend, except City. So what.

Blame your hypocrite of a manager:

"If you bring one player in for £100m and he gets injured, then it all goes through the chimney. The day that this is football, I'm not in a job anymore, because the game is about playing together.

"Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players. I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money."

Not really that bothered at present about this but at least they're trying to address a problem (from their perspective). Personally I have no idea if the player is worth that sort of money (or the hype), so will wait and see how he does.

Looking at his passing stats he's prone to a few errors with his short game. But his long game looks fantastic.

Long Passing = 55.4% Accurate from 495 (3rd from 113 goalkeepers)
Short Passing = 98.8% Accurate from 587 (57th from 113 goalkeepers)

Is De Gea top of the long passing stats? I've always felt that he had excellent accuracy with his long passes.

I don't think you're winning the league or anything, so let's not get ahead of ourselves, but I think you'll put up a much better fight with United for second if everything clicks again.

Should you secure Alisson, your biggest gambles go from being a shit keeper, dodgy central defenders, and literally zero depth, to hoping your young full-backs can retain their form, that your new midfielders can hit the ground running, and that your front three can keep firing. The only player in your starting eleven with huge question marks still is Lovren, who I don't think has ever shown himself to be good enough for the level you want to be at.

Far from it. He's 70th on 39.4%.

Given that his short passing means only 7 misplaced, I would say that stat isn't of great value.

Liverpool going City route and getting a team full of 50m+ players.

is this just being copy pasted around the various topics?

We're spending within our means, which is still less than what you are generating.

About bloody time we started spending to the extent of our spending power too.

@RedSky stats are making me giddy again.

This is the top 10 from all 113 goalkeepers in the list on top of page 5. He's pretty damn good based on last seasons stats, one of the best in Europe and understandable why his price tag is so huge.

Meh. It would be better if he just came out and say "I had to change my mind on this", but as you can imagine I am not terribly bothered by this in the face of the sumptuous transfer policy weøve adopted over the past year or so.
