Couldn’t see a thread. Season 2 out yesterday and it’s great so far. The games in episodes 2 and 3 are both awesome.

I’d say a better show than Squid Game personally.

Will watch the first episode today. I need a recap though, because I can't remember anything about the first season.

Season 1 is one of the best netflix have done. Up there with Squid Game.

I preferred this one although enjoyed Squid Game.

From memory a lot was revealed in the final episode of S1 so better watch that again first.

Binged the second season last night and tonight, and really enjoyed it. At times I think that some of the emotional stuff is a bit overwrought, but I think that might be from years of conditioning of watching cynical, nihilistic western stuff expecting every emotional beat to be undermined by some Whedonesque quip.

Enjoyable, a bit tropey at times as Japanese stuff seems to be but not in an off-putting way, think the sincerity of it tends to outdo the cheese factor.

Also, my goodness the girl playing Akane is just ridiculously beautiful.

Mostly with you, I really enjoyed most of season two.

I do have major gripes though, I think the story needed a lot more time to breathe, the last couple of episodes felt like they just rushed through them.

Also the ending
if we take it at face value and they were all just almost dying it just completely removes the stakes from everything we saw before. Unless I misunderstood something. [\spoiler]

Yes kind of a agree about the rush to the end and dialing back the impact of that
alleyway slaughter felt like a misstep, I how many 1 ups does Arguni have? From the blood splatter indicating his brains blown out to reappearing with barely a graze on the side of the head. Great scene that they immediately undermine.

Final scene
also leaves it open for a third season but with significant retconning needed

Man, now that this is on netflix, what are the hipsters going to like more than Squid game.

It's good except for all the stuff to do with the king of spades.

The concept for King of Spades was awesome. I’m assuming you mean the final battle though which was stupid. Plot armour at its best.

Was on Netflix before Squid Games was ever heard of

I prefer it - seems to have more potential than Squid Games which now will probably just copy the same season again

Absolutely loved season one. That reveal as to where the 10 of hearts game would be taking place was fantastic

I have one episode left of this season, but haven't felt it as good. I'd have liked to see more of the games - these are supposed to be the hardest ones so let me see more of them and less slow bits/chatting/flashbacks.

Also I've found it less emotional, maybe I don't care about the characters as much whereas the first season you found yourself rooting for them.

Will see tomorrow what the finale is like

I felt season one was way better than squid game

Just watched the last episode.... Could someone explain wtf went on?

Were they all in comas following the asteroid, then those that chose to remain in the city on completion of the games just died, while those that chose to return woke up? Kind of like an afterlife limbo where people say they see the white light come down? If they failed the games they just died from their injuries? Not sure I like it, as it makes the threat of the games, which felt so real and is a reason I really enjoyed season 1, null and void as there was a wider event going on. Almost as hollow as the "it was just a dream" cliche. Unless I have the wrong end of the stick completely!! Also how the hell did bad guy, girl run through with machine gun pellets and bikini girl survive?!
Also....

I was wondering what would happen with the joker (and ace?) Cards. Wonder what that meant - they all think everything is now fine but it isn't?

That’s exactly what happened. I didn’t like it either but I assume it was done just in case they don’t get a third season. It made the whole thing pointless IMO.

I don’t quite get this as I don’t see why what happens at the end of season two would make the preceding events pointless?

My take is that the Borderlands still exist and what happens there still has obvious consequences. A bit like the Matrix in that respect. If Neo were to die whilst plugged in, it’s the same result as if he dies in ‘the real world’. What happens in the Borderlands is maybe more significant with the highest stakes because it’s life and death… and when you are there, you know that.

I'm 5 eps in on season 2 and i have the say this has been so good. Did not think season 2 would have been as good as season 1 but i think it's been better. Hoping it retains its quality throughout but I'm used to shows being rushed towards the end for a while now.

Highlights for me has been the prison game and the wolf and sheep game from last season

Apparently in the manga the joker is a deity who brings them back to the land.

Gonna start this soon. I loved the first half of season 1 until:

all that military base nonsense

Looking forward to this.

I’m 7 episodes in and honestly it’s not a great watch for me, I barely liked Season 1 either.
I think it has this cult following of people who like it & hype it up as an act of rebellion against Squid Games, but overall I think its quite average with worse characters.

All these kind of shows require suspending belief and just enjoying the silly ride. Could certainly pick a lot of holes in it but there’s not much point as it’s all very daft really. I couldn’t even tell you what it is I like about them.

it’s not really about suspending belief, I’m a big fan of pretty much all the absurdist-genre Asian shows & movies.
This particular one though I just find bang average and not really compelling, the overly emotional rally cries every other episode loses its effect quite quickly too.

Season two was a bit shite tbf. Think the two main actors just weren't good or had no chemistry

Quite enjoyed season two, except I wasn't interested in the love story between Arisu and Usagi. I find it a bit cringe, but this comes to no surprise if you've watched Japanese shows before. Absolutely loved the prison game though. Chishiya is awesome.

The games up to episode 6 in season 2 have been really underwhelming in my opinion. Only the prison game intrigued me. Also Usagi jumping all over the place and managing to hang herself safely was ridiculous

Just finished 4 episodes of season 2. I have to say, the love story between the main 2 is absolutely infuriating and I couldn't give less of a feck. Faster one of them dies the better

But was a big fan of the crazy girl in the prison game who was killing off her group

Side characters were way more interesting than the main two although it's often the case in those kind of shows.
Overall it felt overly stretched and the second season certainly had weird pacing. Plus that horrendous king of spades scenes and many characters surviving multiple life-ending wounds at the end

Plus, the ending was a bit underwhelming as it wrote everything else off... I didn't like it

All I've gotta say is the actress who plays An is a stunner.

I watch it dubbed into English as I'm a lazy bastard, I think the English voice actors don't help in this regard as they are fecking wooden as feck.

Imagine watching a dubbed version of anything

Loved season 1 back when I watched it and I like this season too.

Yes the romance/emotional parts are a bit over the top (as it seems to be usually with Asian shows) but this show is quality for me.
The Prison game, the lawyer game, the shipyard game, the 7 of hearts game from season 1 and most of the games from season 1.

The ending with the Joker card makes it seem like the asteroid thing is not real, hopefully there's a 3rd season.
