Alexis Sanchez | Done deal

I swear his right foot is a goddamn pitching wedge. The way he just lobs it into the box for an oncoming attacker to get their head on it.

He does try it an awful lot though. Looks spectacular when it comes off but there will be more than a few "WTF" moments to go with them.

If we land Sanchez this month, I honestly think we'll be there or thereabouts for the Champions League. Cantona-esque signing which would invigorate the whole club.

Exactly. I feel he can be the catalyst to an amazing second half of the season. Hopefully our club's hierarchy see it as well and do everything to get him here.

It's funny how Liverpool didn't receive all this BS about Van Dijk. Money or Pep

Yea because Van Djik is joining Liverpool for the project. The project that after 3 years is still yet to look even the slightest bit threatening.

He would take us to the next level. Enjoy friends. I've got my hopes up now. I can't help it.

His quality is obvious, but one thing if note is that he puts in a mean cross. Lukaku is licking his lips.

Also it would mean United have a consistent penalty taker.

Basically:
-DiMarzio claimed yesterday that we were now seriously in the mix
- Guardian started running with it too, using DiMarzio's puppet, FabRomano, as the journo fronting it

Today:
- DiMarzio following up from yesterday by saying United now are favourites
- Wenger refuses to comment on it during his press conference
- Pep refusing to comment on it, saying it's not important blah blah
- City briefing the press about Alexis being a money grabber, despite the issue seemingly is that they can't agree a fee with Arsenal
- Mou rounding it off by talking about him despite saying he doesn't want to talk about him, typical of him when he's interested in a player
Thankyou, appreciate it. So basically Mourinho is now talking about him and being out there in a bid to make us look more interested than City are, who in turn don’t think he is worth as much as we do. Depends now whether he is after the money or whether he is after a trophy... bought with money!

It does make sense. It's a bargain buy because of the contract situation. The only expensive part will be wages, but buying a comparable player at his peak in today's market would be about 100m+ (easily). Wages cover themselves in that respect, and Arsenal get a decent fee instead of nothing. I think City want him to run down his contract so he can sign on a free.

Some united fans still haven't got to grips with the manager we have. He is most decorated manager currently working in the game; and has a network of agents and contacts which makes him heavily entrenched in the industry. Believe it or not, top players want the opportunity to work with him.

We took Lukaku from under Chelsea's noses, we got first dibs on Matic because Mourinho was contacted by his agent before everyone else, we got Pogba despite him having an offer for Madrid.

Feck me I hope city don't sign him, They are already so far ahead of everyone else as a team and well Sanchez would likely take them up another level for me.

We need to steal him but I reckon despite all the rumours he is city bound. Depressing especially when I doubt we will bring in anyone at all.

The only problem left is Arsenal's replacement for Sanchez. Wenger said he isn't going until they have a replacement and there's been rumours they want Martial. No way should that be allowed to happen. They can have Mkhi though. Apparently they're also looking at Malcolm. Anyways there has to be a signing at Arsenal for things to speed up with Sanchez. I haven't heard anything more about the rumours that we would be willing to include Mkhi in the deal since yesterday.

First mention of the NYSE. We've arrived.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Wenger confirms we are interested in Sanchez and made contact. In fact, he confirms we have actually reached an agreement with Arsenal. Ok its slightly in a roundabout way but he did confirm it. If only an agreement in principle!
But the elephant in the room is, we are still no closer to signing Sanchez, are we? because! Given the choice, all things being equal, play for one team on a Saturday or the other, he'd choose City over United. However, they will not raise their offer and have, for now, left the table.

Question is, can we put together a package where he'd actually get excited about coming here and showing city what they missed out on? Where he'd be happy and give his all? I know he is the full duck or no dinner type of footballer so if he comes I think he'll be fine and I really really really really want him to come

But I really really don't want it to be just about the numbers. I want him to want to play for United the same way we would of all loved to as kids. Problem is, I already know that's never going to be the case. So he just better yes or no us fast so we can be put this one to bed, One way or the other.

If we sign him, can we play this song as the players enter the pitch at his first game at OT?

Basically. There was a briefing a few hours ago, likely from City, where almost any journo with with a pulse was writing that "sanchez has to choose between pep and money". Jose fueled the fire by saying "there are some players you go for in Jan" in response to the alexis question.

The best news we've had on the alexis front is that Stone and Ornistein are now actively mentioning MUFC in BBC articles. We have definitely made a move for him, but we would have to be kidding ourselves to suggest anyone but City is the frontrunner.

There's a chance, and that's all we can hope for atm.

Baldy confirmed in his presser that Jesus is close to returning (2-3 weeks away) which might explain why City are all of a sudden not bothered in outbidding us for him. Their attack is already loaded. Adding Jesus is overkill.

They wanted him in summer too, though.

I would love to get Sanchez, even if he is 29 and will only keep this level for 2,5 seasons. Of course I would, building a squad and team is/can be a long-term strategy, but you are only as good as your last result and we want to be great on paper, we want new heroes and bragging rights. You would never say no to Alexis Sanchez, recently turning (only) 29. He is a match-winner, we have no match-winners in our squad.

Saying that, I would never sell Martial to get Sanchez. In fact, Martial’s market value right now should be higher than Sanchez (if we imagine they have the same contracts) due to age and potential. Martial has ten seasons left in his tank.

Yea but that was before we knew what kind of season Sane and Sterling were going to have on the wings. Based on current form from August till now, it's harsh to drop Sane/Sterling for Sanchez. And a healthy Jesus is already first choice over "club legend" Aguero.

Something that should be noted is that the likelihood is if City step and pay what is required, Sanchez will probably join City. So don't get too invested in this yet imo.
I'm not, but there's a few reasons why Alexis should strongly consider it.

1) We are a bigger club. He has been to OT and the Etihad, and has received us both at the Emirates. He knows it.

2) He can most likely immediately get a trophy at City, but as supporting cast, not key man. He would be the equivalent of "Shop clerk" in the rolling credits.

3) Income isn't only derived from wages. He would get far more sponsor money with us. In fact, I'm sure Huawei (current sponsors) would like to have a word with him. Same for Casillero del Diablo who would love to redo the "They say he is a legend" ad. I'd make it a condition that Zlatan plays the Rooney role

One thing is for certain, if Alexis does not feature this weekend, he has already signed. So, lets wait and see.

Second, why would he go to Man City if we offer him more money? When it feckin rains at OT it pours in Emptyhand.

Finally, I noticed that a lot of pundits would hate to see him come to Utd. So just for that reason alone, please God make it happen.

Yeah i see it that way too, I think only PSG can challenge City as the best squad in Europe right now, if City sign Sanchez it's no contest (on paper) they are the best team in Europe and would take some performance from a giant of Europe to stop them winning the Champions League.

He'd be far more marketable as a United player than a City one. His financial advisers will be screaming this at him at every opportunity. On the footballing side of things, United are a bigger club - much bigger in fact - than City and most footballers in the world would fancy Old Trafford rather than Eastlands.

I'm not at all bpthered if he goes to City. In fact, if he is to join them I'd rather it was now.

Adds depth yes, but handling a dressing room with too many wannabe starters is tough. It could be the sort of thing that brings them out of kilter while, staying as they are, they will run away with it.

we really dont need him but he is quality.
Goodness I couldn't disagree more. He's exactly the player that would turn us from a solid team to a potentially league-winning team. He's the talisman we've been crying out for since Rooney started his backslide.

All the pain, the hilarious posts, the frantic internet searches and detective Poirot work is worth it for days like this.
To be a Muppet is to live life.
Well done you absolute fellow Muppets, I'm on here after a double shift and 2 hours sleep and about to go back out. Worth the 4G data usage and social rudeness at ignoring people.
Long may it continue.

Sanchez would be class. Mourinho spoke well. Di Marzio proves he's one of the most sane and informed journos. Ballbague is a sour bell-cheese

Also: Gary Neville on savage mode today.

Is that Techmoan's muppet?

Spot on.!

City will be run over in the latter stages of the CL. All it takes is for Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Lewandowski or whoever to click and City will get hammered. A bit like Shakhtar but imagine Shakhtar have world class players.

No one in the PL is good enough to punish them when they play that open, but the likes of Barca, Madrid and Bayern will demolish them if on form.
