He's very unlikely to agree to a paycut (who in the world would?) so we should do the smart thing and sell him for no fee and cover like 25% of his remaining wages. People may baulk at that but 1) We got him for free 2) We'd really be saving 75% of his wages vs now for a player who doesn't contribute.

Given his touch and lack of pace when he was here I sincerely doubt he'll be able to replicate much at United. Time to cut our losses I feel.

Yeah I agree with this, if we can't sell at a good (any) price we should NOT look to keep him - he's not an asset, we shouldn't keep for the sake of keeping like Rojo etc. He's burning a hole in our wage books and we have young players who'll be looking for big pay increases over the next few years.

What a wind up post.

Hope the mods are watching!

More importantly, hope Woodward isn't watching!

I disagree, it’s not in United’s best interest to retain his services and not play him, he’s going to be loaned regardless and play wherever his is loaned. The amount of people who think it’d be fine taking a 30/40% pay cut is all good astounds me. He’s wanting to bank as much cash as possible, as this is his retirement fund. Why on earth would he reduce his earning power? Unless he gets a longer contract on lower wages, there is no actual benefit to him. He can do an Ozil at the end of the day if he so wishes.
We will see, but inter will definitely sign him.

We didn't get him for free. We got him for player valued 35mil €. Plus fee to him, his agent etc....
I disagree about selling him for free and especially paying part of his wage.
Sanchez still can be useful. If we can't sell him then he should stay. He can play all positions in attack and he is still good player so can be useful. He is still better than all our backup options.

450k for player to sit on bench who will have significant impact on all our future contracts and signings. He isn't good enough to justify paying 450k per week.

Ole rightly won't keep him.

I'd have serious concerns about his attitude. He was signed for all the wrong reasons and he signed purely for a bumper retirement fund.

It's bad business and with bad business you make a loss. That's what the club is going to have to do.

I agree. But why to lose more money on him? Selling should be priority. But between selling him for free or paying part of his wage and keeping him, i would keep him

We will lose even more money by keeping him. Every player will want huge wages thanks to Sanchez.

Pleased for him, and I hope Inter do sign him, if we can get a small fee that would be great, but I think just getting him off the books completely would be ideal for us.

I strongly believe we would have gotten significantly more out of Sanchez had Mourinho adapted to his apparent loss of pace and used him as a Lukaku alternative (as a false 9 perhaps) instead of shoehorning him into the Hazard role. Sanchez no longer had the legs to tear up and down the pitch, nor the explosive dribbling to consistently beat his man on the wing. What he still had was a much better first touch than Lukaku, game intelligence and vision superior to all our other players bar possibly Pogba, and deadly finishing ability when he was on his game. We could have tried a different sort of attacking game with him up front. Instead what we saw was a player struggling with the pace of the game and restricted mainly to risky hail mary passes, which nonetheless made him one of the better chance creators in the side and resulted in a few match winning performances that are all but ignored now. This is not to say that he would have been worth his ridiculous wages had we used him more appropriately, but it would have been better than what resulted; and perhaps the Old Trafford faithful would remember him a little more kindly and not just as the washed up player who displaced fan favourite Martial.

I like him and hope he revives his career and wins a league somewhere. Wish it would have been with us, but it wasn't to be.

I have never understood this notion Sanchez got the wages he got due to his contract situation good luck to other players getting those wages why De Gea huge wages aren't making other players ask for pay rise .Teams would always pay top wages to top players unfortunately ours flopped but that doesn't give excuse to other players to demand parity with them .

Completely agree with both. We signed Bruno after De Gea’s new contract. He’s not anywhere close to those wages.

Also, having seen a bit of Sanchez with Inter, he does seem like he can be a decent backup, less so as a winger but more as a striker or support striker. He plays that role that Ole wanted James to play against Chelsea and I definitely feel that Sanchez (even the current one) could do that infinitely better.

Having said that, I do feel that culturally, Ole is trying to move on players he didn’t feel were good for the squad and we would be looking to move him on. But it wouldn’t be for free because his ability might be a fraction of what it was but you still would have to pay for that fraction.

Eh? There is a reason why clubs have wage structure and don't break them. We did and we paid the price already.

Every player will be pointing Sanchez wages and ask why their client deserve big pay rise.

It’s not even fair to compare Sanchez and De Gea contracts. One of them have been here for 10 years being POTY 2 times and carried the team for most parts.
The other one have done nothing at this club and are on higher wages with no resale value at all. At least De Gea been a very good servant to this club.

I don’t think other players look at De Gea contract and think he dosent deserve it. Sanchez on the other hand...

Yes agreed Clubs have wage structures club thought Sanchez would be worth the wages and we could absorb that, but he failed we move on.
He didn't impact our wage bill beyond his own if players demand higher wages due to him it's simply not gonna work because they need to be able to show they are worth those wages and they can get similar wages else where as well , It seems Herrera tried we called his bluff and he left , our biggest issue has been overpaying middling talents hopefully we are moving away from that.

It doesn't matter whether they think De Gea or Sanchez deserve it or not what matters is whether they deserve the wages they are asking for and can they get similar wages elsewhere.

There were plenty of reports which said how Sanchez wages caused so much unrest in the dressing room and also how Manutd suffered in contract negotiations.

Both Martial and Rashford got huge wages before they proved their worth too.

Players are not robots, if player who is not good enough is earning close to half a million per week then players who are playing week in week out would ask for bigger contracts. That's why the gap between wages shouldn't be high unless players are Messi, Ronaldo level.

Inter will be fools to not try and sign him given how well he’s been playing for them since his injury. And we’d be fools to not listen to them, thinking there’s a chance he can cope with the EPL pace and fight for a spot against Rashford/Martial.

A good deal would be beneficial for all parties involved.

Players are not robots, wage demands will be relative to other players.

He was really good yesterday against genoa.
i couldn’t believe my eyes. Looked like the old Sanchez. Quick and full of energy, Compared to how he was here ( slow and just terrible).

Surely Inter will buy him now after his good spell there. He has looked way better than Martinez since the return of the league.

See, that’s the problem. Sanchez didn’t deserve his wages. Therefore other players will demand the same.

He hated being here though and his lack of workrate and endeavour was there for all to see. And that's before we even begin to consider how much of a disruptive influence he was as well (high wages + low contribution, fight with Greenwood, etc) he would be setting the squad rebuild back if he came.

We can say that Sanchez showed lots of (bad) things when he played but low work rate was not one of them.
Why change history now? Was he a flop? Yes? Are his stats bad? Yes.
But he was pro when he was playing.

Nah, because even if we have to pay up part of his wages, we'll be freeing up wages to help us pay for other players. Right now we're in a situation where a 400k player isn't contributing. I would rather have a 200k player not contributing. Those 200k could be used for say Sancho.

Wages matter when it comes to transfers.

Securing CL qualification is great with regards to our negotiating power with Inter.

If they want him for the Europa, buy him outright with no wage subsidization before Aug 8.

Or they pay a fee for him and we pay some of his wages over the next 2 years.

Colour me surprised. Proper manager have identified what to most people was obvious all throughout that he should only be used centrally. Crazy how so called world class manager couldn’t not see it here, he didn’t even play on the wing for Arsenal for 2 years before we signed him. Incredible actually when you stop and think about it.

Curious to see if he remains respectful of United despite the disappointment of his time here even after we stop paying his wages. At the very least you d think we re owed that by him.

In the end it seems like going in different directions ended up working out aside from the financials for our club specifically. Hope he continues to recognize that even after we stop paying his wages. If all they do is whine (Moyes, Lukaku, DiMaria) after they leave the club then good riddance with a ribbon on top. Even Mou was able to keep it together.

He is just too much of a risk to take a chance with him. Hope we can move him on. If things are working at Inter, then it can be a good deal for all.

Played well tonight. Interested to see who you loan him to next season (I assume Inter won't be able to afford him full time).

You think? what did he do that was so good apart from missing a 1v1? not surprised he got subbed for Lautaro who scored.

Everytime this thread has new replies I hope to read he's sold, or given away, whatever really as long as he's out of the club.
