Yet Sanchez still did more for us than Mkhitaryan did for Arsenal....

They were similar if anythng, Mikhi did better since he has a lower level to achieve (Arsenal competing for 4th, we are competing for the title). Not to mention Sanzhez has already lost his burst of pace. I'm sure the CAF resident sports scientist will be out in full force telling us how 39 is the new 21 though.

He definitely needs to learn from elite forwards (ie less is more) , like Ronnie and Messi. Instead of wasting energy trying to get on the ball in the midfield he needs to save himself for those crucial moments in a game, because clearly his body isn't as explosive as it was. So he has to be much more selective with his effort....

Trouble is he plays for a manager who values workrate higher than most.

They did pretty much the same. Same goals and assists, Sanchez played more, Mkhitaryan had an injury but was seen as a key player right away. I'd bet that their fans are happier with his performances and more optimistic with him then most United fans were/are with Sanchez.

IF Sanchez can get back to his best, then its no contest of course. But the Sanchez we saw last season made us worse than rotating Martial and Rashford like we did in the first half of the season. So we'll see.

Stats wise they may have done similar but you have to look at the games the stats were achieved in. Sanchez was one of our two best players in a Manchester derby and an FA Cup semi final.

I'm not saying Sanchez hit the level we expect from him but you'd rather have him in the side than Mkitaryan. As for him losing his pace, behave.

He hasn’t lost pace Per say but lacks that burst

Form is termporary, class is permanent. I'm fairly confident that the real Alexis will show up.

Yeah great, that makes sense! Following that line of reasoning, how about we also put in a cheeky bid for Pelé? He's currently a free agent!

After reviewing your posts, I realize that you are probably not a troll and meant to communicate a point. Which one...I'm not sure.

Re my statement...that class is permanent, I really believe that. Of course there are always conditions or contexts in every situation. Alexis Sanchez has had a pretty stellar career. A bad 6 months is more indicative of bad form than lost of ability/class.

Of course people lose class/ability through aging, injuries etc. Pele for eg is old (77 !) and no longer a class player. Rooney is not exactly old but no one would really consider the current Rooney a class player. Many examples are there.

Are you saying that Alexis' issues are greater than a loss of form?

His form will really be the deciding factor this season. If he can return to 16/17 Alexis then we will challenge for the title. If what he showed last year is who he is now, it's going to be a battle for top 4.

This is what I personally believe. To me he has lost his burst and energy. I just hope all he needs is a rest..

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I've not really seen anything besides lower output (goals and assists) which would say that he's lost his ability. He's as energetic as ever, pace ....I'm not sure. And, his ability to read game and make good decisions are not affected by his physical conditions. I think he's still got it. It will be up to him and Mourinho to show that...

Crossed my fingers hope it was just sa blip. He wouldn't be the first world-class player to completely deteriorate. Remember when Torres left Liverpool in bad form there were people saying class is permanent. I just feel some people think some switch is going to be flicked and we will see 16/17 Sanchez. We could also see an improved player but nothing like his best years

The sports science brigade are one of the funniest sunsets of people on here. They will have you believe that a player can function at their peak until they’re 40 without any drop off in performance because of “advances in sporting science”

I know. In reality there are a ton of variables that go into how a player will be in his later years. You can't predict and tell a Giggs or Zlatan from a Rooney.

Also the Ibra’s and Giggsy’s of the world are very much an exception, which is why they’re so memorable. It’s very unrealistic to expect that of the majority of players.

All we can hope is that he was just a bit burned out last year and that his performances were not down to him being physically finished.

I read on here that he was supposedly changing his diet up or something. Apparently, his GF is a vegan. If this is true and he is going Vegan then I expect a load of ligament and tendon injuries. There is no way to replace the nutrients on a plant-based diet for connective tissues it all comes from meats and animal fats(from what I have read and interviews with top experts). It's ok for those who are not athletes putting their bodies through gruelling seasons and training sessions and pushing to the edge of their limits.

I really hope Jose plays him through the middle with martial and Rashford/new addition either side of him. He already has a good friendship of the pitch with Lukaku and just feel that with quick movement around him he will thrive.

And for those suggesting it will be a 433 you’re probably right, but Pogba has proven he can play in a midfield 2 and if Fred can add the tenacity and be a pivot it will allow us to be a bit more expressive.

Do you think Sanchez would be better as LW or No.10 behind Lukaku?

Strongly disagree, many many top athletes are vegans these days, in far tougher sports than football too.

Don't get me wrong, ofcourse I want for Sanchez to have a brilliant season and lead us to a league title.

Just what I saw of him from last season was very poor. I'm not sure he'll ever be as good as the Sanchez of old.

The new manager effect could reinvigorate Arsenal. It's just an odd feeling I have that Mkhi, and arsenal in general, will have a good season.

Needs to hit the ground running for us this season.

Big disappointment for me last season, but we all know he is a quality player.

Big season for him. He's had time to adjust and get use to playing with his team mates. Now it's time to shine. I personally believe he'll have a much better season.

That's why Mou does not like signings in the middle of the season. The unfortunate thing is that because of the issue of the Visa, he still can not do a preseason.

Unfortunately, that is completely and utterly false mate. There is a real problem with this kind of false information being spread around.

Think he'll surprise most of us this season with his output . I predict atleast 15G and 10 A. One of the two strikers or just behind would be perfect to get the best out of him

Martial /Rash. Lukaku
Sanchez
Pogba Fred Matic

In my opinion

Unfortunately unless Jose addresses our basic flaws, his team mates are unlikely to provide him with the same levels of movement and quick passing like he enjoyed at Arsenal. It is why so many of our creative players flop here. Because of our shitty playstyle. Mhki failed, Kagawa didn't fit or wasn't accomodated, and Mata has not played to his maximum potential. I'm of the opinion that Sanchez won't be anywhere near as effective for us this season either.

Kagawa and Mhiki flopped because they weren’t good enough, not because of our style of play. Mata has been better, but he was better at Chelsea, in a Europa level team at the time. Again, nothing to do with style of play.

Sánchez should do better than he has done so far, he’s been a shadow of himself and I’m sure he’d be the first to admit that.

I wouldn’t be surprised, I’m expecting at least that output and I’m sure the club is too. He’s got the talent so we need to see it now.

While all this bashing of the ‘sports science brigade’ may have some validity in general, the facts are that Sanchez is just 29. Not the ‘40’ you keep using to make your point. The fact is, 29 (which he literally just turned before he joined us), is not too old to be an elite athlete. That is a fact whichever side of this ‘debate’ you fall on.

Think we need those figures in the league alone from him to be considered anything like the Alexis we thought we were getting. All competitions those figures aren’t good enough, and no more than I’d expect from Martial if given the same role in the side.
