Think the way held us to ransom on wanting 24M a year or I am going to City showed his true ambitions was not to play for Man utd just for the Money.

What a strange take.
How can you hold a club that doesn't own you to ransom?

I seriously think Sanchez could have a great coming season. A full preseason without injuries may serve him well, and he certainly has something to prove. His effort in the last games suggests the problem is not the will.

He had that last season and it didn't help

Can see this guy doing a Bale and collecting every penny of his £96million pounds he will earn on the remainder of his contract. Sickening.
Why is it sickening? He's entitled to do whatever he pleases as he's tied to a contract, likewise the club offered him what they thought he was worth. No issues really.
He was brilliant for his national team the other night, hopefully we get that Sanchez back rather than the injury prone one of last season.

That´s true, but a lot of injuries during the season, though. But we´ll see. Personally, I havn´t quite given up on him yet.

There's below zero chance he goes this summer. So he has the chance to compete like everyone in the squad

Like last season? Because he had one and still looked dogshite in the season itself.

Wasn’t that a pre-season without a tournament? That was meant be be the break he needs - he’s currently away on international duty, so he won’t have a break. Although you could argue he’s has a break for 18 months!

He’s done, who cares about the 4th goal in a win against Japan - was fantastic for a good period of time, now he’s done, he needs to do.

Maybe there is life in that ol' cogger after all. Two goals in two games.

Lord Baby Jesus, give us hope.
Even Lukaku had a streak of 3 consecutive doubles last season. Lin-God had a similar streak in Jose's 2nd season in which he became the Carrington Messi.

Frankly I’d much rather have Alexis than Lukaku. Sanchez’s legs may have gone, but he’s still a proper footballer, who always works hard for the team. He’s much, much more suited to the way we want to play then fecking Lukaku.

This isn’t based on the CA, as I’ve barely watched it. But deployed correctly, as part of a high pressing team, Sanchez is a good option still at no.10 or no.9. I really believe that. I honestly think it’ll be impossible to ship him out, given the wages he’s on, so I would get him as fit as possible, as play him as a number/false 9. With Rashford and Martial operating either side of him.

We need runners from midfield to regularly get beyond him and break oppo lines and create overloads too. This guy has heart, and he will run for days. Forget what’s happened before, and just try and get the best out of him.

Thanks for the comment. Now that sounds more "Manchester UNITED" than 10 pages of cursing.
We are all tired of bashing our underperforming players til now everyday and Sanchez looks unlikely to move anyway.. May be it's time to just stop and instead look for alternative ways to try bringing out the best of them.

I always felt striker is his best position. His best season for Arsenal was also as a striker. He had a really good preseason last year where he was played in that position.

Well said mate

Agreed. We really should be playing with him centrally, Martial on the left and Rashford on the right. With the latter two swapping. Rashford and AWB is really something on the right I could get behind. Fluidity, of course, is always the key.

I feel similarly about Fred. He was a big signing, highly rated in Brasil. Personally I am excited to see what he can do now he’s had a season to settle. A high press approach suits a player of his engine well. I accept I’m probably in the tiny majority that still supports his United career though.

Candidly I have low expectations for this season. I highly doubt we’ll make the moves in the transfer market we need to. But even more than new players, this club needs proper coaching, and an aggressive attacking mentality. I think giving Ole a full season to implement his ideas and improve fitness, is the sensible move. Yet until we see a change of ownership and executive management, nothing meaningful is going to be accomplished at this club.

The ONLY upside to continued failure, which leads to downward pressure on revenue, and coupled with continually inflating transfer fees, is that at some point we reach a situation where the Glazers find it more attractive to sell than hold the asset. I feel we are close to reaching that point, and am hopeful we will be under new ownership inside of 3 years.

I agree with all of this. Also, I really hope that you are right about the Glazers wanting to sell the club soon. We just need an owner who is more in it for winning and his love for United rather than for making money out of the club. Our club can generate all the revenue it needs. It just needs someone who won't actively bleed it dry.

Exactly right. We have to accept that the Glazers are satisfied with the financial performance of their asset. This basically strips the club of any drive to be the best. There can be no doubt they’d be happy to see us sit 4th every year and have a 2 in 2 out transfer policy. The reality is that over time the club’s reputation and standing is sliding. Operational infrastructure is both bloated, inefficient and without direction. There is no strategic intent to football operations, and infrastructure - like the stadium - is crumbling. They will not invest as they should because there isn’t enough upside. They’ll probably sell before the stadium needs to be significantly rehabbed or rebuilt. Until then it’ll be a patchwork job to keep milking the cash cow. We are in even bigger trouble than the doom mongers here realise. As fans there’s little to do but sit back and watch the shit show unfold until the circus leaves town.

He hurt his ankle first half and played through it second half, so might have picked up minor injury.

The weird thing is he actually started to look quite good upfront in the period Lukaku was injured/missing.

Lukaku got fit and that was it he's back out the team. I do think his movement and link up play is more suited to a striker.

Another goal for Chile v Ecuador

Alexis Sanchez scored the winning goal to send Chile through to the Copa America quarter-finals with victory over Ecuador.

Nah he only looked good in pre season next to Mata as strikers but as you said he wasn't played there when the season commenced. I think sometimes managers over think things. Jose could clearly see that Sanchez looked better albeit being pre season as part of a front two. It's weird he never tried him in a front 2. The said can be said about the Lukaku/Martial combination, in Roms first season they played together upfront a few times and did well. They had such a good understanding so much that most of Martial's assists were to Rom in 17/18. Yet Jose never tried to exploit that situation.

Hope he plays well in Copa and attract more buyers
I feel the same way. It's obvious Sanchez has no chemistry with the rest of the squad and his arrival broke the little harmony left we had under Mourinho's tenure.

It will never work here, unless he bangs 30+ goals next season as he is the highest paid player in the Premier League and the expectations can never be any less.

The club has already had its' reputation take a hit so we need to accept the loss and move on as quickly as possible. Even if we don't buy anyone in the place of Sanchez, someone like Greenwood would be at least just as useful, whilst having the advantage of being a very young player with all the time ahead of him to develop.

Anyone thinking Sanchez can come good for us is missing the bigger picture. He’s a loner by nature on obscene wages. It’s not entirely his fault but he’ll always be a barrier to dressing room harmony while here.

When? When did he start to look good? Seriously, please point me in that direction.

Some forumites (not you) now seem to see signs of improvement when he actually traps a ball, there are no expectations for this guy, it's ridiculous.

He's like past it Torres and Shevchenko before him now, we need to move him on, injuries have ruined him as hes clearly been on the downward slope, cut our losses. A shame considering I feel Sanchez has good intentions and has a good work ethic but hes on obscene money thats just damaging our wage structure too with very very little in return.

Like many, Alexis seems far more motivated with his national team than he does for us. Doesn’t seem to have the same bond with his team mates here (can’t really blame him) as he does for the Chile squad.

Doesn’t seem to have the character to perform in an environment of disharmony, so It is better he leaves.

Not making any excuses for him cause he's been shocking but when you have a team that you are struggling to suggest who hasn't been, the issues are just about one player. There are so many aspects of this club that's toxic, he's just one element that's contributed to it. He came to a club that was broken in ways that were so entrenched that the appointment of Jose and the signing of Sanchez and Pogba just made worse. The are great players for good sides, piss poor players for bad ones.

I can’t remember the exact period but it was under jose when Lukaku was out. Our attack just seemed a bit more fluid and he personally seemed more involved and lively.

I’m not saying he’s the answer but I do think we’ve been square peg/round holes etc

Some optimistic views on here regarding Sanchez up top.
I don’t see it personally he’s not going to go from been rubbish for 18 months and bang in 20 goals as our main striker next season. FIFA dreams.

It was when we played Juventus away and won in the last few minutes. He played alright up top and also did so against Bournemouth when we allowed Martial to push up closer to goal and have Pogba use the space vacated by him. This was when there were reports released about how Jose was starting to let McKenna have a bit more control in training and the players said they were starting to use the ball on the ground a lot more.

This strikes me as the most sensible approach, particularly as it will be very hard to sell him.

Anyone thinking doing a good tournament will attracts buyers is mistaken. The man is the highest paid footballer in the league. he will not leave these wages unless we pay him the rest of his salary. We have a very little chance a Chinese club will come to him calling ready to pay his salary.

You're probably right, but it would be great to see him have a good season and somewhat justify those crazy wages (he'd need 40+ goals to truly justify them, but still.) Just for once, I'd love one of our players to actually earn what they receive, or in the case of Rashford, what they believe they should receive.
