FDJ costs £85m and £550/625k per week

Ngolo Kante (Free) £250k p/w on 3 year, Sabitzer 20M(150k) and M Kudas £45m (125k) A McCalister £
So we buy the three players to solve our Midfield completely in short and mid term giving us time to find a perfect young CDM in next two years and don’t break the wage bill!
We offset McCalister cost by selling DVB and S Mctominay and maybe it’s a choice between him and Sabitzer

Kante isn't a number 6. People really need to stop pushing this myth.
 
I'd have him at OT, ETH hopefully will have some cash in the summer, and imo he Already has his targets in mind.

No, story was if we didn’t qualify for CL we could only afford one big signing, if we qualified then we could afford two.

Kante is a box-to-box destroyer. Trying to play him as a #6 would be the same mistake we made for those years trying to play Fred in that role. From memory Chelsea did try to make that change a few years ago and Kante went on to have his worst season since coming to the league with everyone thinking that he might be finished at the top level, then the following season they moved him back to his normal role and he was instantly back to being the best in the world at what he does again. His best seasons have always been when he's played next to somebody else doing that #6 role while Kante has the freedom to go hunting all over the pitch.

Agreed. Not sure why so many seem to think Kante's a dm. He has played his best football hunting the ball along side a sitter like Drinkwater, Matic and Jorginho (not a defensive player but plays in the deepest midfield position).

I think a lot of people base their opinions on FIFA, where most players, myself included, would use him as a dm.

The exact same goes for Fred as we had to find out the hard way for a few years. He simply is not a DM where he is the deepest midfielder. He’s a CM ball winner who plays ahead of a deeper anchor / playmaker.

We actually have a squad that is too big. The problem is that a lot of the deadwood is not good enough to play for man utd, and they are on wages that make it almost impossible to move on. The only real solution is to let the contracts run down or let them go on loan and we may have to pay part of the wages. This applies to players like Phil Jones, Bailly, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Telles, Brandon Williams, DVB, McTominay, etc. Freeing up room in the squad would allow us to bring in new faces, but we will have to be mindful of the limit on non homegrown players. Unfortunately, that means there is an incentive to bring in English players, all else being equal, and that is why there is an English tax.

Yeah, what I obviously meant was playing squad, if you're still thinking of Phil Jones, the injured and the loanees as part of our squad you might be an accountant and not a football fan.

We are only allowed a certain number of players to be registered for each competition, with caps on the number of non homegrown players. Although players like Phil Jones, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Telles, Elanga may never play for the club again, they are still on the payroll, and the Glazers or any new owner are not going to be keen on bringing in new players without shifting out some of the deadwood. Therefore, although we may not be required to sell to buy for FFP reasons, I can see the owners expecting us to be getting rid of these players. Having players who consider themselves to be senior members of the squad but are not getting regular playing time is not go for squad morale, and we should have no more than 25 senior players, all of whom ETH trusts as a first team regular, supplemented with a few youth team players.

The problem is it feeds into fans’ excitement (which is why they do it) but ultimately leads to upset when it’s all nonsense.

Of course the top clubs in the country are “monitoring” a World Cup winning centre midfielder of a “smaller” team. You don’t need to be ITK to state the obvious. You could substitute the name of three or four of our players into this, and hey presto, transfer rumour clickbait.

As for the fee, this is the kind of thing which breeds misinformation, leading to comments such as the one above. Now, some fans will have this arbitrary made-up fee of £61m stuck in their heads.

£90m for Ferguson and Mac Allister would of course be fantastic for you, but in reality it would be closer to to £90m each.

Not a chance, you’re not living in the real world. You can quote 90m as a feck you price but not for a transfer that could actually happen.

From what other Brighton posters have said in the past that sounds fairly accurate. Maybe you could confirm, but I get the impression that the club maintains good relations with its players. Caciedo, for example, was kicking off about leaving in Jan but they seemed to do a good job of bringing him back in line. I don't think it'd be an easy or cheap hunting ground.

Precisely. The club have said their players are not for sale. Meaning they don’t want to sell them. Paul Barber has explained at fan meetings the policy is clear; he gets a phone call enquiry about a key player, the reply is “not for sale”. They don’t set prices, they wait and wait and if an offer becomes too good to refuse, and the player wants the move, they accept on their terms.

In this specific case, the club will likely look at other business being done - for example Enzo Fernandez. That player cost £107m, having played in the World Cup winning side along with Mac Allister. He has arguably a higher ceiling and a few years younger. Benfica’s policy throughout was “he’s not for sale”. Eventually an offer becomes too outrageous not to accept, and the club get a fee they are happy with.

Brighton don’t quote prices, everything you read on social media is clickbait - the club simply say no until they are forced to say yes by the transfer fee.

But you’re allowed to sell players. I’m not saying a club can go down to Brighton and force transfers through but players can be bought and sold priced at a players worth!
You’d swear Brighton were up there with Man City with some of the prices I see quoted

The club generally doesn’t keep unhappy personnel if they want to move (Dan Burn to Newcastle, Cucurella, Trossard, Maupay) but they also don’t just accept low offers to get players off the books. In Caicedo’s case, it was the timing that was the issue, in the last few days of the January transfer window with us having our best season quite literally ever.

They gave him a few days off, let him cool his jets and then back in the squad a week later. A new contract shortly after.

Well yes, they can, and they will I’m sure in the summer. But Brighton hold all the cards you see; they aren’t obliged anymore in this day and age to sell just because a bigger club said “right, I’ll take him, him and him”. Brighton set the prices, not the buying club or its fans - or social media!

I suspect Tony Bloom would be happy to be left alone with his squad. The club don’t want or need to sell under his stewardship, which is why the fees are so high.
 
I find his name to be less annoying if you pretend the Mac part is in inverted commas.
 
As usual, people struggling with the concept that what you think a player should be worth is not necessarily what the player will cost. Another connected concept - if you 'overpay' for a player who turns out to be great for you, then that will represent value for money over the longer term.

I doubt Mac Allister is going for less than £70m. Now personally I think he's a good player, possibly even very good. Doesn't seem to be truly elite, but he does fit ETH's new system of two 8s very well maybe it's worth it. He seems like a reliable high energy player so not that risky a buy.

Not a chance, 90 may make Brighton consider about selling Mac Allister, I doubt Ferguson will move this summer.

I agree because we ain't got money right now so pretty obvious we aren't in the advanced stage. I think out of those three, we are the only one with Argentinian. Ask Martinez to convince him to wait and join us.
 
£60m looks quite reasonable for him though I doubt this would be the final price. Liverpool are going to be favorites as they have the biggest need for a midfielder out of the 3 clubs linked and probably the most resources to make it happen as well.

Not a chance in hell. Brighton might price Ferguson alone at £90m and that would be cheap. A starting PL and international striker at 18 when Grealish went for £100m, Antony and Mudryk went for £90m and Enzo went for £110m? Good luck with that. Its going to be closer to £200m on both players but even at today's prices, I'm willing to spend that amount on both. They are PL-tested and young and Ferguson looks like the next great striker from the British Isles. If Fergie was here today, he would spend £100m on Ferguson in an instant and I think it is something we have to explore. At least make one or two good offers and test Brighton's resolve.

Unfortunately we have to sell a lot of players to be able to afford these guys AND still address other crucial areas (a deep lying controlling midfielder, a right back and another CB for Varane) but a mass clearout has been a long time coming.
