Alexander Isak - now a Newcastle player

The point still stands that recruitment had different purposes for both clubs. Theirs was tasked to elevating them from mediocrity to second tier in the PL. Ours is expected competition for one of the best sides in PL history. It's like comparing the job David Moyes did for Everton and what he did for us. Two completely different standards, one can succeed one and fail miserably in the other because the latter is significanly more difficult and rarer to find.
And now NUFC is better + Moyes never got Everton to the CL

I really don't get your point. Is it really that much harder to sign more expensive players and offer them way bigger wages? What does it say about EtH and the recruitment if NUFC are now on the same tier after just one full season after the takeover considering the ridiculously massive head start Man United had?

Is this yet another young player/striker who managed to slip our radar?? Hence the bump!
We paid the same money for Höjlund as Newcastle did for Isak one year later.

Hojlund will be a better 9 in my opinion. He is showing glimpses of what he is capable of with absolutely no decent service to speak of.

When we get sorted and give him a proper platform, I have no doubts that he will be a 30 goal a season striker.

I'm not sure he's that good to be honest - I like him and he's exciting but is he, as is now being reported, a £100m player? He's also 4 years older than Hojlund, I think it's pretty realistic for Hojlund to be a 20 goal a season striker (whether with United or not) in that amount of time.

We missed out on wingers, CMs, CBs, you name it but Hojlund might be one position we actually got right.

The bump hence what? Højlund is 21. At that age Isak played Real Sociedad scoring a goal every three games. This is about what Højlund has scored for Atalanta and United at 19/20/21 years of age. Isak is now 24, last year was his first in the PL, scoring abou once every third game. Only this year he is scoring more often. These are both players who contributes alot outside of scoring, but what makes you think he slipped under the radar?

Isak has more ability than Hojlund

Seems like a really talented player, but his injury record isn't looking too great for Newcastle so far. Missed a bunch of matches with a hamstring injury last year, and has had two groin problems this year. Probably too son to tell if that will be a recurring thing, but it's gotta be a concern.

I don't see Hojlund better than Isak based on ability from what I have seen this season. I can't read potential like others here though. Also by reading the comment #81 and 82, Arteta is lucky to still have a job.

As much as I like Höjlund I think he's quite limited tbf. Isak is the RR version. In other words far more talented and I'm surprised our recruiting staff couldn't see that at the time.

And Hojlund works harder, is more physical and has more power in his shooting.
I agreed. He is younger too. We will see how he performs once he gets more services from his teammates.

He spends a hell of a lot of time fending off his marker. You rarely see him with space on his own where he can show us other sides to his game. If he does get free in the box he's got a good finish but to say he's good all round is stretching it imo,

He is more like a poacher who operates in the penalty box. He can also play as target man.

Good ST. Someone we should have bought and for the price he went for was nothing really.

Haaland isn't specially technical? A striker who has also technical ability as Isak has are worth their weight in gold. Zlatan, Cantona you name it.
Yeah as in Isak can dribble people, has tricks, can play off the shoulder or drop into the 10 space, a better touch etc. fundamental skills that I would call 'technical'. Haaland doesn't really have those skillsets, you could argue he's the better finisher (although he does miss a decent amount of chances) but he's inarguably the better 'goal scorer' and if you were asked to pick either Haaland or Isak right now, every single person is picking Haaland.

Re your question, it depends what areas you want to focus on. I'd probably say right now though I would rather Haaland, Son, Toney and probably Watkins ahead of him though if we are talking the central CF/attacker.

Strange to see the comparison or any longing. Isak is about 3 and a half years older, and in his second season in league.

Hojlund looks physically excellent at just 21 and has shown real promise in build up play and of course finishing.

Given the choice I'd take hojlund every time

Quality striker, probably one we should have gone for in hindsight. Scores goals, beats men, great pace. Hojlund is promising but I’ve yet to see anything to suggest he has more to his game than Izak just yet. I’m happy with Hojlund, but Izak looks better.

Son and Watkin has more similar playing style to Isak than Haaland and Toney.

I wasn't likening them to him, I said those i would take above him in general. (It's literally an exchange about how dissimilar Isak/Haaland are)

Isak would work well for us I think. Seems to check a lot boxes. The only thing that would worry me is he seems to get injured a fair bit.

I don't think about Arsenal much, but when I see Isak i just feel he would be better there than anywhere else in the league.

Plus he already has a "double connection" with Odegaard in that they played together before and have mutual intelligibility using different mother tongues ;)

22 games and 15 goals in EPL so far. He just needs to stay healthy and makes himself available for selection.

In my opinion the best no 9 in the league. Shame he gets injured so often

Lovely player, but he'll be permanently injured if he ever joins us. We have no idea what to do with injuries.

He will be a better number 9 than Isak.
Well Isak doesn’t seem lazy, but ultimately he looks more talented at playing football

If he leaves us he’ll go to a bigger club than Arsenal, no offence but he deserves better than that. Can see him at man city or Liverpool.

I am interested to know why Isak's fitness coach didn't advise him to bulk up a bit more.

He needs to be playing in the CL every season now.

Perhaps Newcastle will keep him for one more season but they'll be offers for him, would be fantastic for Arsenal especially as he already has that connection with Odegaard from Real Sociedad so that has to be in Edu and Arteta's thoughts.
