Alex Telles - SIGNED for United

Oh I see. Yeah, potentially, but it doesn't really matter when we sign Telles. He won't start straight away anyway. Best to get the lowest price possible.

I agree we should be trying to get the best deal possible for a player who’s nearly out of contract but if City are showing serious interest it might force us into upping our bid. The prospect of chasing a player for weeks then having our neighbours come in and snatch him off us at the last minute would probably be to much for even our board to accept as incompetent as they are.

and given the uncertainty we have around everything, do we think they clubs are right to be spending massive amounts of money? As I just posted, we lose circa £150m in lost revenue by having no supporters at OT this season.

It’s also clear that we do have money to spend and if we did spend £90m+ on Sancho, then how many clubs will have outspent us?
If that happened I’m sure most reasonable people would agree they’ve invested a reasonable sum of money. While that isn’t the case, people are right to feel that the supporters are being let down.

Is Jones worth £4-4.5m in salary PER YEAR? Wouldn't we be better off if Jones was shown the door and we invested that money on Telles's deal?
Not particularly, but we're not the only ones who do that. Loren got a 120k a week contract, that was also a wage suck. He's not as useless as everyone makes out, he's just not good enough for us. We definitely need him off the books, but I doubt we're not actively trying to move him on. We're wanting somewhere like 18m for Smalling, do you think we're demanding more or the same for Jones? I doubt it.

It's said to be around 4m-4.5m per year. Even 2m per year (he's got a 4 year contract) is too much for a useless player that no one rates especially since we seem to struggle to cough that extra 3m to have the Telles deal wrapped up

Its not a ridiculously high wage. You may think he isnt worth it but thats a lot different than saying 60k a week is ridiculously high.
And if we are counting pennies to that extent than Ed has every right to knock 10m off the transfer fee. Thats the vast majority of Jones wages wiped out in 1 go.
One point cant be independent of the other. You cant criticise him for spending recklessly then criticise him when we reign it in.

Every club has its deadwood. However we seem to have more then our fair share. The reason being that we gave them silly salaries and unnecessary contract extensions which makes it difficult to get rid off. Its also the same reason why players seem to move on loan rather then on a permanent deal as well.

When you take that in account, what the likes of Evra said + the fact that we're at the end of the transfer window with just 1 player signed then its evident what the real problem of this club. Our board might know their stuff on business but they have zero knowledge about football.

We offered a fee that we knew that it was going to be rejected. If Barcelona or Arsenal could drive the price down off Dortmund players then surely Judge/Woodward won't especially considering their record + the fact that Sancho still have 3 years left in his contract.

my point is we are willing to spend at least £90m+ and it looks likely we will come back with an improved offer. We don’t yet know what that will be.

It is a ridiculously high salary for a glorified meme whose useless on the pitch and have near zero value on the market. His salary could have been invested on transfers. The same is happening with the likes of Rojo, Periera, Dalot and Romero. They have been priced out of the transfer market because of their huge salaries. In turn it makes it difficult for us to buy players unless we get rid of the deadwood first.

If I am a betting man then I'd bet that we're soon do the same mistake with Jesse. He'll be handled a long term contract on decent salary despite having been shit for the past 2 years.

I am sure we would love to sell him, but that’s aren’t any buyers. We all know that’s our own fault because we gave him the contract. The issue is if we paid him off, we would have to pay up his entire contract - so we wouldn’t save anything.

If anyone came in for him and said they would take him on a free, I think we would bite their hands off.

We can have him for free next summer. Go all in for Sancho. However, even Sancho is not a guarantee success for that money. Just look at Dembele.

We need him now. We’ve been brainwashed into thinking every transfer is a financial decision.

these geniuses were the ones who gave him a long term contract extension. They did the same with Periera, Rojo, Romero and they will probably do the same with Lingard. Yet somehow some would want us to believe that the club is run by competent people

yes look forward, rather than going over old negative ground.

I would be willing to look forward if we learnt from our mistakes and start hiring football people at board level to take care of football related things. Unfortunately the only thing that seem to change at this club is the manager. I wonder how much the University of Bristol mob had costed this club with their silly decisions.

Jones won't move. He's a football meme. He knows it, all clubs knows it and probably even Woodward/Judge had realised that by now. He'll probably suck every penny out of that contract and then he will feck off to the MLS

Now watch us cough up the cash. Was the exact same with VdB.
Van De Beek was completely different. Was done pretty quickly. But it wasn't our incompetent twats at board level that made it quick. It was because of Edwin Van Der Sarr that it was done quickly.

so VDS just gave him to us? I love how this ridiculous notion has promulgated throughout the Caf.

VDS helped progress the deal quickly. Plus he is a former Manchester United legend. I never was implying he just gave him to us. You really think we could sign a player quickly other than from Ajax? Takes 4 to 6 weeks at least for the clueless twats Matt Judge and Ed Woodward to sign a player. Have you been asleep for the last 7 years or something and just woken up to the fact we are crap at doing transfers

To be honest, I'm quite surprised no other club has shown interest before this City link appeared.

I think the City link is a bluff by them to get the deal done. Remember how Sporting had to pretend that Barca were going to get Bruno Fernandes in order to force us to just agree a fee and get on with it?

It’s irritating how Woodward and co have to drag every single transfer to the last minute until they’ve made sure that every single penny has been negotiated for.

With Bruno that was ridiculous, Barca wanted him and was going to loan him out or swap him with another Spanish team. Ridiculous BS.

I am wondering if we are waiting to see what happens with the Sancho and Smalling deals before doing this one. Smalling gets sold and that fee could be reinvested for Telles. Numbers seem to match up.

Not comparable. Different contract lengths for one.

Smalling is 3 years older, Porto only want €20M, if Ole wants him then he should be backed instead of haggling over a few million, there's just over 48 hours left and our penny pinching board are playing double standards and not backing our manager while all our rivals are backing there's.

Exactly. We've got the wrong Ed in charge!!

If we get VDS, the clue is in the name EdWIN.

Its why we are so relaxed about it and pushing the price down. He has a year left, wants to join us and we know it. This City link is desperate stuff from Porto.

If it’s true about Cavani then we need to get this over the line too for his excellent crossing ability.
