Alex Telles - SIGNED for United

And we had months and months to work out deals.

The minimum amount of signing this summer should have been 2 with Sancho and 3 without and that is minimum.

There was months to work out these deals and get Oles targets. At this stage the excuses have run dry.

Last season ended under 6 weeks ago. Everyone was expecting fans to return to stadiums in October, that was changed literally 3 days ago.

Again, i'm not making excuses as our board do appear to be slow and we all know about Woodward,Judge,Glazers and their perceived incompetency.. But to dismiss the current climate and the global pandemic as it moves into it's second wave and shows no sign of ending is ridiculous.

We have no idea how much there is to spend at United, thats the top and bottom of it

I think Telles would be a significant signing for 3 reasons.

1. Goes without saying, cover for Luke Shaw. No need to worry about his health, that position is sorted.

2. This allows us to play 3 at the back very efficiently, could even be our best set up.

3. Brandon Williams moves to RB where he should perform a lot better. We now have a good backup for RB too.

Srs a move like this adds real depth as it also moves Williams to RB. We should def get it done.

If we didn't panic buy last window then why would we now? Last summer we were in a worse situation squad wise.

We shouldn't ever be panic buying, but we seem to spend most of the window preparing a bids and nothing comes from them. We should have gotten 3 new players this window as Chelsea have certainly improved their starting 11. Maybe the owners are happy with 4th and that's always going to be a problem until they go away?

If this club is really trying to do something on the market these guys who run that department really need to take a hard look.
Not sure this season will go well down with Utd supporters.

Mate the Glazers choose to let the club lose 100s if millions every few years with their interest repayments. This loss has been a drip in the ocean compared to that.
.if things are bad the owners should not have took their divedend payment in June. Also other teams in the Prem are coping just fine.

We have funded the Glazers enough if we have no money they could atleast do what other owners do and give us an interest free loan out if their pockets.

Again there is no good excuses when everyone around us who make less money are working around the current situation just fine.

Oh, quite right. But we've been stuck with the glazers long enough to know that they're not going to dip into their own pockets.

ANY other properly functioning club, even a mid table one would have had this type of deal wrapped up in a couple of days. It doesn't seem a complicated one. Porto looking to sell or lose for free next summer.
But of course we can't do things in a semi properly functioning way.

Almost a mirror image of Liverpool with Alcantara.
Pains me to say it, but there is a lesson of how to conduct business efficiently and professionally.

Just a thought.... But has anyone thought to themselves that these kind of dealings seem to take forever because its a bullshit rumour and were not actually in any form of negotiation as of yet or at all?
Our only signing thus far happened in a matter of 2-3 days. Just sayin.....

Yes.
I have felt all along that we only had two positions targeted this window, a creative MF and RW (Grealish & Sancho) and I think that the club believed that they would sign both for less than £100m. Donny was great business, but it was very lucky that he was available and for less than half the price of Grealish

All the rumours about defenders are just smoke in my opinion.
I just don't believe that we seriously had a focus on signing any, but of course a bargain deal for Telles might have fallen into our lap, similarly to the way that Donny did, and we might respond to that opportunity.

Oh, quite right. But we've been stuck with the glazers long enough to know that they're not going to dip into their own pockets.

The problem is that the Glazers don't have that kind of pockets, they don't actually have cash, their wealth is linked to assets that they own basically commercial real estate, Manchester United and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In order to dip into their own pockets they would have to sell one or part of the big assets aforementioned. As weird as it may sound, United isn't owned by "poor" billionaires.

Woodward and his pals must be grateful that there are no fans at grounds, as soon as this is changed they will get a lot of flack as you can imagine.

Maybe this lad is a world beater, I have no idea. But I can't help but think we are only in for this deal because he has 12 months on his contract and Porto are willing to to a deal because they don't want him to go for free.

Our dealings with Porto haven't been too successful.

Anderson came with the tag of being one of the brightest talents around and he was either injured or just plain average.

Then we signed Dalot in the same summer they sold Ricardo Pereira to Leicester who is twice as good. And worse thing was the transfer fees were very similar.

Another excuse, the Glazers just bought a hotel on St Petersburg , Florida for US$ 188 million in the last 2 weeks, so not sure that the are unable to utilise their wealth. Just seems they have little interest in Man Utd as a football team, just another investment vehicle, so as long as it has value and there is no need for what they must view as excessive expenditure , nothing changes from what we have seen. Given that Woodward's employment is related to pleasing his masters , they won’t spend and he won’t do anything to displease them.
It’s going to be a long painful period ahead.

Are you talking about the Vinoy? It was 2 years ago and it was an investment part of their main business which is commercial real estate, so I'm not sure what is your point especially since they didn't purchase it with their personal funds. If you can't make the difference between someone investing money in commercial real estate and pouring their own money into a sports team then there is no hope, the latter is a money pit.

Exactly. It's not the best signing, but it IS the easiest one. Then Ed can do a splashy 'look at us signing people' briefing, social media campaign, and then go back to whatever it is he does for 10 hours a day.

Apologies , I read the date wrong, having said that they remain sh*t owners and have done nothing to Instil any confidence in their interest in man Utd other than fiscal return. For that Woodward should be condemned , and being rewarded with the stewardship of the club and his inability to run the football side , and with his ego even bigger than Pogba is terrible for the foreseeeable future.

Like everyone, want to be proved completely wrong, it that doesn’t seem likely.

I think this will happen. We’ve never had a transfer over the last 7 years where it hasn’t slowed down due to the fee, apart from VDB where I suspect Edwin sped things along.

I wonder if we dealt with Ajax directly or used our wonderful intermediaries that we seemingly love for that deal.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Woodward got his projections wrong for this window and has a major cash flow problem right now. He seems clueless enough for that to happen.

Not really, the Thiago transfer dragged on for weeks, with Liverpool allegedly not wanting to pay up, we were meant to be interested, then Liverpool decided they could pay after selling Brewster. It took a lot longer than the proposed Telles transfer has taken so far.

Again there's been no mention about paying his full clause from the news coming from Porto sources.

All the reports have been claiming they'll accept quite a bit less given it's their last chance to get real value for him since he's not interested in renewing

A Bola is the crap source yes? O’Jogo is the reliable one. Anyway i will be surprised if this isn’t done by today or tomorrow

O'jogo was claiming it's close and that they'd accept 20m earlier this week

We were only linked with him last week!

If...
He’s agreed terms with us.
Porto are resigned to selling rather than losing for free next year.
Porto are open to negotiations.

Why exactly are people moaning about us trying to negotiate and drive the price down?

People are quick to forget that £1m keeps over 20 normal employees in a job for a year.

We struggle to get deals done, it is a real concern.

Look at this Telles deal for an example, offer them £18m and see what they do.

Instead we are having this strategy where we go from agreeing terms, monitoring the situation, talks hitting advance stage, looking at alternatives, talks accelerating, talks hitting the peak. What does all of this even mean.

I give Thiago as a perfect example.

Liverpool didnt want to pay the money, they didnt monitor the situation, they never put out list of 100 alternatives to scare Bayern, they were calm about it and agreed a deal where they pay 5m euros a year.

People are quick to forget that £1m keeps over 20 normal employees in a job for a year.

People are also quick to forget that the same people trying to save £1m have offered Lingard, Mata, Perreira, Romero, Jones, Dalot contracts worth up to £40m a year combined when none of them can get into our squad.

The one thing you can be sure of is Ed and his crew FULLY understand our cash flow and balance sheet - this is their expertise - what they lack in football knowledge they certainly make up for in finance know-how.....

Could well be some truth in not spending cash until after 30th Sep so that the costs all sit in a different Quarter (Oct-Jan) - remember we have financial covenants and these are tested every quarter - would be very logical for the bankers to push any transfers into the next quarter and then allow them plenty of time to juggle finances and clear the covenants.....as inept as people think they are at transfer dealings they may actually be working to a strategy that they’ve had to adept to since our income revenue has fallen off a cliff due to Covid.....first we will know is when they tell the NYSE what they are doing though.....

While Shaw is fit, no big hurry, we'll get him if Woodward & Glazer bros can spare €20m which is money coming from the club btw, but at beginning of October we could really use quality depth ready to play and make actual impact.

This has bad ill thought out deal all over it. Therefore it suits us down to the ground. Sigh.

I understand what you are trying to say and it is seems all good and that we should have sympathy. However; I do not buy it for one second.

There are ways of structuring the deal so that the costs sit post October if this is what they are trying to do.

They would agree with potential clubs that we will make x amount payments post October.

He's currently negotiating a new contract with Ajax, he 100% won't be sold this window.
But Ajax has also promised the players that reached the CL semi final last year they would not stand in their way if they wanted to move on. If we offered 25m we could have him.

This is what I like to see, the fecking cold truth. Well done

Can the thread title be changed? It's been ages since that tweet, and there's been nothing since to corroborate it.

Sounds like we are struggling to close this deal.

With the renewed lockdowns in the UK, I'm not so sure we will commit to any major deals this summer sadly.

While I understand its "prudent" financial management, we really should be able to afford a 25m fee. With or without the sale of Smalling.
