I mean if you want to believe in the Reddit tier system and pretend that one talking head knows more than another, it’s not going to put you off. I just don’t see how a guy known for being reliable with French related transfers is going to know squat about a Brazilian playing in Portugal.

Because PSG are in the mix so their people will know the situation.

It's not so much an age obsession as a way to build a squad without going bust. Suppose you bought players aged 28. Let's assume you get 6 years out of them. On average, after 33, they're done, and have no resale value. You'd need to buy 4 per year. Half at top quality (£100m), the other half at squad quality (~ £30m). You're spending: 4 × £130 ÷ 2 = £260 / year.

Glazers aren't spending £260m/year on players every year.
There are more important things than resale value, if you're building a winning team. A combination of promising talent and experience is the ideal. Too much of either rarely works.

Stats last 4 seasons.

Season 16/17:

Minutes: 3992
Goals: 1
Assists: 10

Season 17/18:

Minutes: 4022
Goals: 4
Assists: 20

Season 18/19:

Minutes: 4796
Goals: 6
Assists: 13

Season 19/20:

Minutes: 4102
Goals: 13
Assists: 12

Also read he had an avarage of 1.9 keypasses per match during these seasons.

I just wanted to show his offensively numbers, and they look very good, just by reading them and knowing (also mostly by reading, only seen him play 10 games max) that his offense is much stronger then defense, you could assume Shaw would be more used in big games were we are supposed to defend more and in games against teams with strong wingers and Tellas would be a better choice in games were we are more in control need a extra offensively weapon.

One more thing I've read about him is that he likes to take early crosses which would be great for us when we counter. And not have to wait for Shaw and Rashford to run down to the corner flag and start their Tika-taka passes and hopefully 1 out of 4 goes well and the ball ends up (not fast enough anyway though, usually the opponents defense will be back and organized and ready for the cross, if Shaw or Rashford don't decide to pass it back to Matic then one of the CBs and start over) in the box. With the pace we have in our front 3, Tellas early crosses could easily give us 5-10 extra goals itsef.

4000min = 44.5 matches per season (so you can get an indication about how much he plays every match, based on these informations he seems to be a regular starter and doesn't have to much problem with injuries).

Hope this post makes any sense, standing in a packed bus rushing home to the game (need to visit the store before it starts). LET'S FcKING GO UNITED!

RMC have reporters in most top leagues, they are not just clued up on french transfers. Also most agents are in Monaco and RMC tend to know what is happening in Monaco.

Which is where I imagine he’ll end up, despite Tuchel saying left back isn’t a priority.

I feel a similar way.

He looks like he'd be a useful player for us, but I dunno, I just feel like it's not going to happen.

So DvB came out of nowhere while this thread has been going on for a month and Sancho since before he was born (or so it feels like) why does it take us so long to do transfer business. Compare us to the way Chelsea were doing business left right and centre it is just depressing.

@SWE-Chucky

Those stats are very encouraging, I know he's an effective attacking full back so not surprised by his assist output (which is very good) but to see that he averages over 40 games a season for the last 4 years is incredibly important.

Chelsea have been linked with all their targets for an eternity, they didn't do it quickly.

Im not even convinced we’re looking at a left back. Ole took Williams out of the firing line when his performances dipped last year, which a decent manager will do when a young player is struggling, but I don’t think he’s going to be ready to write him off yet. He’ll persevere with him as backup this season and see how he does and how Shaw does with injuries.

IMO neither Reguilon or Telles were going to displace Shaw if he stayed fit. I’d rather we used whatever money is available for a full back and sorted out right wing instead.

If we do go for a left back it should be a clear upgrade on what we have, not more of the same level but with different attributes.

Signing Telles would make sense. 28 in December so has another 3-4 years in him at least, cheap, attacking fullback and a competition for Shaw.

Frequent visitor to Chelsea message boards are you?

Tbh I've never seen him play. But @SportingCP96 know a thing or two about the Portuguese league. And I trust his judgment.
As I said he is not a “world class” left back but he is a very capable one and I think he will an improvement to Shaw especially for the low fee that he will cost in today’s market.

There are better potential left backs out there but for the three price you can’t go wrong with it.

He also has the physical attributes to do well in England.

@SportingCP96 also raved about how good Bruno was going to be for us. I think they might be onto something, especially when they tempered their assessment of Telles saying he isn’t world class, but will on the whole improve the side.
That’s exactly it, Bruno was a sure thing. I had no doubt he would be an immediate success because quality like he has means he can do it in any league.

Telles though not World class and at 27 I doubt he will reach that level is a capable player especially for the circumstances of the deal and the fact the season is already under way. He is not a slouch and will do whatever is asked of him to do.

Ya as I stated he has a lot of (good) mileage under his legs and experience in winning in a competing team and playing in the CL. At 27 he is ready and experienced enough to slot right In.

I don’t have an issue with his age. But, because of his age, I cannot see the club making a serious bid for him. He doesn’t fit the age profile that we have been buying lately. Is there some reason that he would be cheap?

His is a year older than Fernandes?

Yeah if he's better than Shaw and 20m then imo it's a no brainer. And it's not like we can buy a world class LB atm anyway. They are actually very rare and all of them are not for sales.

Hope we can sign him soon.

Hopefully, we get this done. A very cheap deal overall for the quality we get in return.

Why is there this obsession on here about Chelsea doing transfers quickly? They've taken an age this window getting some of their players.

I don't know anything about him, but at 27 he should be the real deal and we should expect instant impact from the get go.

27 is the new 34 it seems...
Funny, it should be the other way since sports and athletes have improved fitness and longevity vastly in modern times. He should be pretty much at his peak for the next 2-3 years.

Contract out in a year I think. But hes 27, our squad needs some experience and more than anything need an attacking left back like him with good delivery. Whether he or Shaw will start every week is irrelevant, as the schedule this season will be crazy and since Shaw is very injury prone, you basically need someone on a similar level at least. Can rotate, can start alongside each other in a 3-5-2, and a good price overall. Its a no brainer for us, and a necessity to have a good squad balance at the back.

Feels like we're being used again here.

Would be happy if this goes through, not gonna sit here and pretend that I've seen much of him but the stats speak for themselves really and our fullback areas are super weak attacking-wise. Will be useful in games against lesser teams and I feel 27 is a good age for an already young team. If we get him for a decent price he's got a solid 5 years in him, who gives a feck about resale value here

If the fee is true, than not a bad deal. Sure, not a world beater but he is very hardworking and his passing, crossing and ability to take set pieces are a great asset.
A major loss for Porto.

Yeah he looks a decent addition, in an area we could do with strengthening.
