Having a medical at Arsenal according to the BBC. Rumoured fee £12m.

Just what they need.

Another midfielder? Fabregas is off /muppet-mode

You really do wonder about Wenger in times like these. Looks like a good player but an inexperienced teenage midfielder/winger is absolutely the last thing Arsenal need.

I don’t think this will do anything to cheer up some of Arsenal fans who are crying out for a couple of big signings. A good young player but at only 17, I cant see him having a major impact for a few years.

Wenger sticking to his guns

Can't understand why they're going after him. They've also reportedly signed Joel Campbell who is a similar kind of player.

You can tell Wenger is being wanker in his signings - always the same type of players again and again.

They've been missing a young winger, he's completely different than Gervinho who they already signed in the exact same transfer window. Really good signing, I can see him playing 30+ league games next season and they'd definitely be much worse off spending that money on someone like Gary Cahill, who they absolutely do not need because their defence is very good and doesn't lack quality.

So, they are reportedly balking at upping their £12 million bid for Jagielka, yet they're happy to chuck £12 million for this kid?

Bizarre.

Hardly seen anything at all from this kid. Sounds like a perfect Arsenal signing then.

Jagielka is about to turn 29 in a couple weeks time which is why Wenger isn't too keen to pay over the odds for him.

That and the fact he is a proper tight with the clubs money, I can't even imagine what he is like with his own money!

Wenger needs to stop looking for the next 16 year old prodigy and buy solid experienced players where required in the squad, such as CB. Another below par season from the Arse and the board will look at his spending and you'll have to wonder how much longer they will give him in the job to be honest.

Jagielka is also just a decent PL player. The Ox could be a superstar.

The only thing I learnt in Geography, the Oxbow lake.

Champions League football every season and a decent stab at each competition will please the keep the Arsenal board content, and that is what he is delivering. Arsenal are paying off their stadium debt very well by player sales and yet they keep up in the top 4. Fair play.

He sees himself as a c mid player. He's played there through the ranks and has only played wide for the first team. The initial fee wouldn't be £12m, more a down payment and then instalments depending on reaching various milestones.

An 'Official' announcement should be made shortly by Arsenal that the deal has been completed for £12M.

It may keep the board happy but you get the sense the fans are becoming frustrated and you wouldn't be suprised if the fans start turning on him. Yes, he has won a lot with them but no trophies in 6 years is a very long time at a club with expectations has high as Arsenals. If us or Chelsea had gone that many seasons without a trophy we wouldn't want to see a bunch of kids coming in, we would want good experienced players.

He's probably a very good player but I'd be pissed if I was an Arsenal fan if they start the season having spent the money on him but refused to shell out on Jagielka etc.

They are a club that needs to change things around. Players want to leave right now and Wenger needs to recognise that. He can't get someone like Jagielka etc without overpaying to some extent but he's imposing huge other costs on the club by adhering to this strategy.

Good signing for the future. Yes, Arsenal need some experienced players like Jagielka. But this does not prevent those signings taking place. Arsenal have lots of cash, and will have even more after Fabregas goes.

If for some mad reason Wenger does not sign someone like Jagielka I will have to re-look at my prediction that Arsenal will finish ahead of Liverpool though.

He might turn out to be a great player but surely Wenger's transfer policy should be dictated by team building, and whatever the Arsenal team most needs, not on buying players he simply knows he can turn into superstars? There's a lot of players SAF could be right now and turn into great players, but unless they actually fit what the United side needs I can't see him signing them.

If I were an Arsenal fan I'd want to see Wenger concentrate on helping Walcott fulfil his potential finally and buying the players the team needs.

Yes it is a good signing for the future but what is the point if you don't reinforce now. I think Wenger is seriously underestimating the discontent at Emirates (both in the team and in the stadium).

i remember him slagging off united for signing an "unproven teenager". he's since done it twice. by the time ronaldo was walcotts age he was WPY and at 24ish sold on for 80m. anyone see these two getting anywhere near nani let alone ronaldo?

According to Press Association, the fee is £12 million plus £3 million addons. Quite a hefty fee for a 17yr old.

So what he is going to offer to the Arse that they have been so blatantly missing since 3-4 seasons ago? Why not spend that money on a proper defender?

If Wenger doesn't sign a defender after spending minimum £12m on a 17 year old, he'll be slaughtered.

I don't watch enough Championship football to judge. I do trust Wenger's judgement on young wingers though.

I believe the player will do well for you, and he could be a replacement for Nasri who knows? But then Walcott hasn't progress much since his move, has he?

Anyway you are still a very good side and will challenge for the title as always, only to fall way short again after Feb. Someone like Cahill will help loads
