Alejandro Garnacho

Would be great to see him and more youth on the bench instead of Jones, Mata and Lingard!

Hopefully will see him make a few cameo 1st team appearances.

He certainly looks a very good exciting prospect

He should probably be making the matchday squads right now. Hannibal too.

There's too many players making up numbers on our bench who have no future here. We need something fresh for these last few games, and these young players might actually provide a bit of excitement if we have another game like the Leicester one last weekend which was dull as dishwater.

I just hope RR would just make some changes now, at least replace some of the bench players like Lingard and Mata if he is not going to play them more often, especially Mata with players like Garnacho and Hannibal.

I wouldn't expect to see him this weekend. I think if he and Hannibal et al are going to see any time at all then it will be a week Saturday in the home game against Norwich.

At the very least, we should see them on the bench on Saturday. If we somehow grab a 3-goal lead against Everton, I would be happy to see them get a few minutes out there.

Should definitely be on the bench instead of the likes of Mata and Lingard.

Lets hope so, if we make Europa it’ll be a good chance for quite a few of our youngsters to bed in next season.

I have a feeling we will promote 2 or 3 and sign 2 or 3 and it’s going to be absolute carnage as they try to gel and acclimatise. Let’s just hope the fans and board have some patience. I want to keep ETH for at least 2 seasons and see if he really is this great coach and motivator but next season could easily be a carbon copy of this but hopefully with lots more work rate and desire and a majorly slashed wage bill.

I don't think he's ready for the first team, and is someone that I think would benefit from a loan in league 1 or the championship.

Could be a battle between him and Elanga for back-up LW next season.

For sure, the likes of Mata and Lingard ar eoff so long term offers little them on the bench, they barely play ad when they do they offer little as well.

Apart from the experience some of these yougnsters can get and a confidence boost being on the bench, I think it would give the side and crowd a lift seeing some more youngsters involved, we have already seen it to a degree with Elanga being the one bright spot recently.

Only thing is you may as well keep your 100 plus k a week squad players in the squad until they leave, as useless as they are it’s literally their only purpose. Our squad is too clogged up with mediocrity for any real pathway to open up this year. Hopefully from next season on we find a much healthier balance while eventually becoming more successful. As I said I think there’ll be a lot of short term pain but a hard reset is needed, hopefully centred around more aggressive promotion of our youth products and better recruitment practices in general

Yes a few this summer thankfully and the likes of Phil Jones almost pointless selling him now, probably cost more. WIth DeGea, Rashford and Shaw its a conundrum though on there contracts and I bet they all get new ones, all at a wage that makes them hard to sell too. the brutal truth is there is a large number of players in this squad that are merely squad players and a lot of them need to be moved on whether thats in one two, three, four windows. The only real positive is we do seem to have a number of promising youth players that may be able to steup in into the squad at least over the next couple of seasons to ease the burden....but its the first eleven that really needs to be improved and thats why a cull and number of signings is urgent to me

Lose today and he'll be in the squad for Norwich, as will a couple of others probably.

Have to say I’d be looking to get him minutes before the season is up.

He’s clearly a very talented player. I’d rather him on the bench than Lingard, Mata etc

There's an argument to be had about keeping the youth away from the first team for now though. Why taint them by association when there's very little chance they can come into a poorly functioning team and change things. They'll be seen as just another lazy first team player soon enough.

Give them a fresh start in August.

He needs to perform in the u23s before worrying about the first team. His decision making on Friday was terrible, he’s clearly not ready.

All throwing him into the first team will do is lead to abuse and being written off within 90 mins. Sure it took what, two matches for Elanga to be racially abused? We now have loads of fans saying he has no talent and only works hard. Our fans constantly clamour for the next youth player to be thrown in the deep end and then instantly claim they are amazing after a goal or they are complete crap after a mistake. He’s better off in the u23s where he still has plenty to learn.

I like the pressing. The first team could learn from them.
It’s a big fecking joke, isn’t it? The youths are pressing as a unit, making off the ball runs, playing good football as a team, etc etc. Instead of the highly rated ones going to train with the first team, the first teamers should be going to train with the kids since the kids seem to do the basics better than the first team. I would be fecking embarrassed if I am in the first team, serving up trash week in week out, and still expect the kids to look up to me.

That said, Garnacho had quite a few moments to play in others with early passes but refused to do so, or couldn’t see the pass.Or perhaps he’s just too one-footed and majority of those passes had to be with his left or outside of his right foot. His decision making is not great, but he’s still 17, there’s time to work on it. If he fecks up a counter or an attack whilst playing for the first team like he did against Chelsea, will he get torn apart by the fans?

100% this. The people wanting us to just throw a bunch of kids scoring goals or dominating a midfield in the youth team into the first team is ignorance beyond belief. Fernandez and Mejbri have been consistent in the U23s and deserve a chance. No other players are ready for first team games at this time, Shoretire being closest. It would do them way more harm than good.

Not sure I agree when we see players barely even trying and giving the ball away constantly for the first team. Mejbri should have started a game by now in my opinion. LVG would have blooded a few of them by now.

As much as I’d love to see a few yoofs given a run out now the season is finally absolutely comprehensively stone dead - you are right. There is a wisdom to letting the new manager assess in pre-season and use those he feels benefit the squad best. Don’t rush them in now just because we suck.

100% this. I don’t have Twitter but just on here, there’s a large section writing off Elanga despite doing pretty well for a 19 year old. The list goes on with the likes Williams and probably more. It’s like they all need to perform instantly like Rashford and Greenwood or they’re not good enough after a few games

Completely this.

I'm sure he's due an opportunity soon inspite of his young age. How is his build, is he a small chap or a good 5'10+ in height..?. Thing is that if he can come in and make the team better, then why not give him a chance to show it?. He obv won't be playing wiwo to start with, but I think if he's good enough then maybe we could test the water out of him in the first team?

It’s perfectly fine to not rate a young player as good/talented enough for United. Greenwood and Rashford were rated higher as kids because they are more talented than Elanga and Williams.

You never know with young players, they may as well just hit the ground running. Oftentimes, it's not the "most talented" players who breakthrough but the most dedicated and hardworking. There are not as big margins in talent as what people think there are but there are huge margins in mentality and application, and that will take you very far.

Can't comment on Garnacho himself as I haven't been following youth regularly lately but if he's the one who likes to work hard then he always have a chance. The academy with some exception produce some great players over years and we wouldn't keep a player out of his depth. and Argentina senior squad wouldn't call him up out of a blue..

To be honest it’s Garnacho’s work rate and attitude that have really shone for me. He’s great at pressing and seems to have one hell of an engine on him- as shown in the FA Youth cup where he was skinning the fullbacks in the 90th minute. Add to that he is a great dribbler and clinical finisher and we might just have a decent player on our hands!

Agreed. Very hardworking player. Tenacious.
