Aldo VS Marty1968 - All time 3 year peak - AUCTION DRAFT

Who would win based on the players in their 3 year peak?

I had planned to put out this formation that depicts where the players will operate much better, but then I'd have been answering questions left right and center on why it's not symmetric, and what not.
The Caf started to like asymmetric formations over the last 2 years. You should give it a try, it's actually accepted nowadays.

Could you elaborate, particularly about Socrates?

The only left-wing association I recall with Socrates was his political alignment :D

I recall even in 1982 WC, he was operating right with Zico to the left. And it was Eder drifting that gave them presence in the left.

I recall watching some clips during a earlier research where I rarely found him operating left. I still think of him as a CAM mostly outside of the 4-2-2-2.

I'll post some clips later as can't access YouTube at work.

It doesn't matter, I can switch him and Pele if you like that better, but it won't make 1% of a difference.

I posted some clips from 82 that solely focus on his performances, and he plays literally everywhere, which was the beauty of that Brazil team, so damn fluid. Falcao would operate as an AM plenty of times with Socrates dropping back.

Anyway, here his biggest asset is the one touch delicious interplay he will have with the likes of Pele and Ronaldo. He's a big part of that central unit and his backheels and flicks would be beautifully responded by the others and it will play a huge part in opening up defenses.

I don't think Brazil 82 is comparable to your team from a gameplay perspective. It was quite unique and I doubt it can be replicated with a different set of players. And the thingy of 'plays literally everywhere' looked great but never got them the wins consistently. Your team would be much better off with wingers there. I would say you are lucky, Marty does not have a strong core. If he a opted for a counter attacking set up, it would come down purely to player names, imo.

The players are different but come from the same philosophy. Pele in 70 played alongside a massively talented AM who was happy to play deputy in Rivelino. Replace Pele with White Pele and Rivelino with Socrates. I don't see any issue personally. Only way I would have thought of replacing Socrates was if Rivelino was available and that too purely because of a proven partnership. But nah, if I lose with this core it is my fault, not Socrates', that's very simple.

And as I said even if I do replace him, I have precisely zero intentions of getting a pure winger on the left, I am very happy with the man who's doing that job right now. :)

Also I will remember your cheap dig on Brazil '82. :nono: We all know why they lost and why they are called the greatest team to have not won the WC.

They're maybe the third best team to have not won the WC, no way are they on the same level as the top 2.

 Hey, I like the team. Just that I think replicating it with a different set of players is nigh impossible.
I am not replicating it play by play, but the evidence is pretty clear how Socrates worked then and will work now, specially if you also see Pele working with someone in a similar role and mould in 70. The key attributes required are pretty much there and above all the willingness to let someone else lead and you happily following (Socrates) and the responsibility to combine your team and lead from the front and at the same time do it in an entertaining fashion, usualy regarded as the pinnacle of Joga Bonito (Pele). Very bizarre to pick on this part of the team when there's loads of other things far far less obvious to imagine.

In any case, that's as far as I can try to prove it will work, it already did beautifully in my head without making these comparisons haha.

Didn't even look at teams. I voted for Marty because thats my name in real life. COME ON MARTY

Isn't that a saying mainly in Brazil, though hehe? You got the point anyway.
I've never been to Brazil, so I don't know. I did get the point though, yes. And I like Socrates in the Rivellino role. With Facchetti on the wing, he's a great fit and can overload the central area even further without it causing any problems for your team.

What a lod of tosh. Although I can't blame you after the grilling Aldo was giving you earlier. Not sure how conscious he was of it, but he sure could use your Jairzinho and Djalma right flank combo.

Most well-constructed and almost final ready team I've seen in the games so far, and I have no doubt he will come across the 2-3 upgrades that would make him simply unplayable.

Going to admit defeat here (like I ever had a chance against Pele and Ronaldo)...

Anyway, my parting shot - just watch and admire the brilliance of our United boys. Absolute Legends!

Anyway onto Kubala, It is not that I do not rate him.. I have no doubt he was obviously a great player and I thoroughly enjoyed your write up, I just think from the footage provided he didn't really appeal to me but that is just on a personal level. Some players you look at and you get it right away whereas with Kubala he just looked a tad clumsy yet everyone has him down as supremely gifted technically.. so clearly it is me that is missing something here.

Does anyone have any match footage of him so I can learn more about him.

Suárez, Kubala, Czibor, Kocsis... Feckin Barca and their forward lines.

Kopa and Zanetti, I recommend.

Edit: You'd be invincible!

You can never go wrong with Pupi and Aldo sure won't mind him. But Kopa? He did well against you because Cafú was out wide, and no, I don't think Zanetti is as incisive far up the pitch as Cafú. Terrible mix.

Zanetti would be awesome but with a more line-hugging outside right who can cut inside.

With Garrincha available I'd be baffled if he went for anyone else. I'd throw all my bucks his way, Gentile will do fine at right back. He isn't Zanetti, but he is the right sort of RB to have behind a Garrincha.

^^ @Aldo if there ever was a team for Garrincha to shine and not be just some one man band shunted out right and expected to just work magic while disconnected to the rest of the side, this is it.

Yea he would be a good option, no doubt. I'll have to see a few more things, will wait for the whole available pool to be decided to see how to go with this. I've got no money left from last round and we've got some sugar daddies in here, so I'm not having any plans set in stone. :D

Aldo did not want to go for wingers, Kopa is the best available to play the role of Kubala here. A creative goal scoring AM who can also drift wide. He has played a similar role with AdS and thought would be good for him. On second thoughts agree with you on the mix though. In fact Aldo can go for Cafu/Kopa themselves.

Nah anto is correct here. I don't need an out and out winger on the left with Facchetti there but on the right specially if Gentile stays having some traditional width won't hurt. It's no surprise that was the position I had to kept on bidding till the end.

Considering your bids for your no. 9 and 10, you filed the rest of the team out ridiculously well. Couple of fairly minor tweaks and it's tough to see anyone stopping it.

I may delete this depending on future match ups and opponents :p

Haha thanks man. Same goes for your team tbh. Ridiculous front three.
