You got them all wrong except Alves and Ramos.
He did?! he's lucky we didn't get more chances to attack him. How he did he own us? That's very hyperbolistic imo. I think alot of posters need to make their minds up regarding Barca's defence to be honest.
Pepe is an absolute beast when he's not acting loco. He can play in midfield, not many are better in one on one situations (you can even ask Messi) and he's a destroyer. He's also a lot faster than Pique. Some of his performances in the past few seasons have been sensational. Especially vs Barca, camp nou 07/08, was art.
Pique does have the benefit of not being tested that often. Some pundits say Barca can play games with no back line and you wouldn't even notice.
In my opinion Pepe is better than Pique in every almost every single facet of defending.They are polar opposites though, one is a no nonsense, extraterrestrial brute while the other is Mr composure.
I usually just read posts without checking who wrote them, but you figure out when you are reading a boss post right away..
Indeed, my views are not popular but I'd rather say what I actually believe from my own viewing experiences than go with the majority.

Maybe Marcelo's better than Abidal now (I don't agree), or Carvalho better than Puyol...but then that post was made two years ago, and neither were in the defensive lineup I commented on.

I never said people were sheep to be fair. Edit- I actually do think quite a few posters are sheep on this forum but I don't want to really get into that. I'm not afraid to give my opinion because the majority don't agree. Otherwise what would be the point signing up to discuss football?

If I had to chose a defence from the two teams, it'd probably be:
Alves - Pepe - Pique - Marcelo

You just seem to make controversial calls on purpose so you can play this misunderstood poor soul. I respect the fact you do have a unique look on things. There are always going to be sheep around on any topic, and that's fine. But that doesn't mean you have to criticise them and do the exact opposite, and then somehow think of yourself as superior because of it. But I digress...
I feel you're comparing the wrong centre halves. Puyol is more like Pepe and Pique to Carvalho. Marcelo is better going forward than Abidal. But he can't compare defensively. The fact that Abidal doesn't disappear up the field is what makes him a better defender. You gotta be there to defend. But if you're comparing tit for tat then I guess they would be tied
Alves and Ramos aren't tied. Regardless of Alves' tendencies to roam forward, he does get up and down the field well, and doesn't make elementary mistakes like Ramos seems to. Whether or not Ramos can play centre half is a moot point when you're comparing him to a wingback, so his saving grace, flexibility, is redundant
I agree regarding Puyol being more like Pepe and Pique with Carvalho. If we compare those two I believe Pepe to be better than Puyol. I would say Pique is better than Carvalho. At this current stage Puyol for me is the worst of the lot but still a good defender who needs to come back quick for Barca.
With regards to Macelo I believe his defensive capabilities has improved greatly. His ability to track back and win tackles has gone up alot under Jose Mourinho. He was good under Pelegrini but he's been great under Jose. At Real he's been improving every year.
He's hardly the Gibbs of positioning. You can't hold down a spot in the Real xi with contreao sniffing around if you dissapear all the time up the field. He times his runs very well.
If you would have asked me who was the better defender before Jose arrived I would have said Abidal, not anymore.
I can't understand how you can imply Ramos makes elementary mistakes unlike Alves.The perception of Ramos should have changed since 2009. He's become alot better defensively.
Please also take into account how Real defenders are tested alot more due to Barca's ability to keep possesion. They rarely even get called into action. For example look how Alves was exposed at the Copa America.
Also there's nothing controversial about what I've said. It only gets perceived that way because of the poster saying it imo. I'm only passionate about my footy although with clubs like Man City/Chelsea buying their way to the top it's weakening. All my opinions are authentic based on what I've seen. I'm always willing to explain my views unlike some sheep.
Abidal is criminally underrated by a lot of people.
He's a good/decentish defender.
He was quite unfortunate to be selected for some high profile games vs Barca.
