Al Pacino vs. Robert Deniro

Both are brilliant, cant pick one.

Never understood why people rave about Taxi Driver though

Or Raging Bull.

really didn't like that film...probably because of Joe Pesci though...though The Deer Hunter is awesome.

Pacino is god, SIM:ONE is a shite film made awesome by him and i agree with whoever said Any Given Sunday is one of the best sports films ever made...i actually think its THE best.

Almost impossible to compare and contrast all their brilliant performances and say one is definitely better than the other. Pacino's Satan in The Devil's Advocate trumps De Niro's Louis Cypher in Angel Heart though so I'll give Al the nod.

Pacino in Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon is brilliant, De Niro in Once Upon a Time in America is brilliant.
De Niro stood out more in Godfather 2 and Heat than Pacino did in both movies.

He was great in that film but I think the chick made it worth watching.

That said, Pacino for me.

De Niro is fantastic in a film called Guilty by Suspiscion. A very different role for him.

Donnie Brasco is some of Pacino's best work, along with The Godfather part II.

Both have a particular range - Pacino couldn't have made Raging Bull, and De Niro with Scent of a Woman. Then again, Pacino has a tendency to overact, and De Niro is slowly becoming a caricature of himself.

Both superb actors over the last 40 years, but Pacino edges it for me, simply because De Niro has somewhat tarnished his legacy with the ever-growing list of shite films he seems to agree to take part in nowadays. I can't imagine he needs the money, its a bit of a mystery really.

Oh and Spoony - Heat is shite? What gives? One of the better films in its genre in the last 20 years IMO.

have you seen Friday Night Lights? that's the BEST sports movie ever made, followed by rocky, any given sunday, invincible, remember the titans, blue chips.

I've always prefered De Niro to Pacino but thats probably because I had seen a lot more of his movies than I had Pacino's.

I think De Niro best performances came in Scorcese's films - Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The King of Comedy, Casino etc. Some of my other favourite RDN movies are : Godfather II, The Deer Hunter, 15 minutes, Brazil (brilliant cameo), The Untouchables etc. I haven't been a fan of his attempt at comedy for the past decade (Analyse this/that, Meet the Parents/Fockers) or so.

I loved Pacino in Scarface, Dog Day Afternoon, Donnie Brasco, Any given sunday, Devil's advocate, Scent of a woman etc.

All that being said ... I can't wait to see them together in the upcoming 'A Righteous Kill' .... should be fantastic.

I was the same when heat was about to come out and look how badly that turned out. Of course they were doomed by the presence of Val Kilmer who could have made Godfather 2 utter rubbish by his mere presence.

Yeah agreed. But they have a lot more screen time together in this one as opposed to 'Heat' where they just shared a couple of scenes together.

The bad news however is that they have also cast 50 cent in the movie. That can't be good. :nono:

I actually thought Any Given Sunday was quite crap except for his locker room speech about inches. It was made by Oliver Stone, who I for the most part hate.

Fair enough...i know a lot of people who don't like Oliver Stone, i think John C Miginley is great in that film though despite his lack of screen time, as is Jamie Foxx.
