so pick one you rate more than the other, and why (list films/roles). they're often compared with one another.

i think al pacino is a slightly better actor, but i like robert deniro's films better.

pacino was great in the godfather, any given sunday, heat, and scarface.. but i like deniro's films: godfather 2, heat, the score, a bronx tale, men of honor, ronin, jackie brown, casino, goodfellas, the untouchables, taxi driver.

Thats a hell of a task - must give it some thought. They're both great. Heat was a fantastic film with both of them.

I wouldn't know good acting from bad (unless it's outrageously bad)!

Both have made brilliant films though DeNiro's range is greater as he's done both drama and comedy.

The two greatest actors of all time.

I'll take De Niro over Pacino. De Niro has played more different roles brilliantly and I like his films better.

Both are at least 20 years past their peaks.

I disagree with that. During the last 20 years De Niro has been in films like Cape Fear, Godfellas, Casino, Heat and Jackie Brown. Pacino has also had some great films for the last 20 years like Scent of a woman, Carlitos Way, Heat, The Devils Advocate and The Insider. Although for the last couple years they have been past it.

Edit: I forgot to add "The Mission" in De Niros list which is a brilliant film.

Actors can't be 'past it'.

They might not be given leading roles as Hollywood insist on having young (male) leads to market a film.

Often age only improves an actors ability.

De Niro for me, he has a greater range of acting skills than Pacino and a more diverse catalogue of roles. Special mention to Goodfellas, Casino, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.

I disagree. I think Pacino's played more varied roles, whereas De Niro plays the psychopath like no other actor.

Pacino: Godfather 1 and 2(less is more), Scarface, Scent of a Woman, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico. All very different roles.

De Niro best roles: Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Deer Hunter. Not as varied.

Pacino for me.

I don't rate the Deer Hunter actually I don't know what's so special about that film, can anyone explain?

Look at De Niros role in "The Mission" and then look at his role in "Cape Fear". Those roles are so different and still he manages to play both of them brilliantly.

Anyway, they two of them are the biggest american actors of all time but I like De Niro better because I like his films more.

How many of you guys think that the movie "Heat" would have been a good film if De Niro and Pacino hadn't been in it? That movie truly shows their greatness.

I've seen most of his and Pacino's films. Pacino's more versatile. Love them both, though.

Heat was shite. And The Deer Hunter's one of the best films ever made. What didn't you like about it?

There was nothing that I didn't like about the Deer Hunter, I just don't get what the special thing about that movie is.

I disagree with that Heat is shite. Heat is the only action movie that I like.

On another note Spoonez you seem to be a movie fantast, how many Yugoslav films have you seen?

Messing, Heat wasn't shite but it was very average.

I don't think I've seen any Yugoslavian film. Any I should look our for?

You do know who Emir Kusturica is, right? The serbian director who's won two Golden palms at the Cannes festival. Take a look at a movie called "Underground".

"Pretty village, pretty flame" is another brilliant film.

Pacino by a mile, you just have to see 'justice for all' to be sure...arthur kirkland was a rare gem of a movie character that i doubt can be performed by another actor sucessfully

I don`t think I would like to choose between the two of them. They are probably the best male actors of the last quarter of a century. Both are among my favourites as well.

If I had a gun to my head I`d say Pacino though, though not a lot separates them. I hope they make another movie together before they go.

Both Deniro and Pacino are amongst my favourite actors but I seem to remember Pacino's performances slightly more than Deniro's.

I particularly enjoyed watching Pacino in The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, Scarface and Donnie Brasco (which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet).

I was impressed by Deniro in Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Casino and The Mission.

A movie director can't go wrong with either Pacino or Deniro. Personally, I would like to see them act together more often.

De Niro's performance in Raging Bull trumps any of Pacino's many brilliant performances.

Solid work, but not show stopping IMO. Joe Pesci acted De Niro off the stage in Goodfellas, Cape Fear was hammy rubbish, Casino was a good film but it's Sharon Stone I really remember. As for Pacino, Heat and Devil's Advocate was him in hammy shouty mode.

Don't get me wrong, I love both actors but I think their acting peaks were in the 70s and 80s.

Good shout with Joe Pesci he was awesome in both Goodfellas and Casino (although both similar characters)

I think that's pretty fair.

I just watched Carlitos Way and the Insider last night and for me Pacino Is the better of the 2 by far. Deniro for me always seems to play the same kind of character, although he does play it well.

Heat is way over-rated though not quite shite

The Deer Hunter is fantastic, a brilliant film on every level

they are both excellent actors and choosing one over the other is a difficult task as they have both played all kinds of characters in their careers although Deniro's last few films have left a lot to be desired

Both are good

Pacino was awesome on the Devil's Advocate

I liked Meet the Parents and the second one also, De Niro was class doing a funny role
