Can't see them putting 3 past you. If that were to happen you'd lose, ain't no way you can score 3.

If they put two past you it's gonna go to extra time/pens.

1 and you've won in 90mins.

Like you say its is all about you containing them, you've been good defensively under Mourinho, but someone mentioned you don't have Bailly (or Rojo). They will be a blow for sure.
Yup. I think we'll go or should go with Jones-Blind CB pairing, not having Rojo and Bailly is a huge blow.
Stupid Bailly, should have avoided that red. :(

I can see Jose starting Smalling/Jones ahead of Romero next week after the clean sheet today.

I think he will go for 3 at the back. Don't think Mou trusts any of the defenders he has for the final.

I hope Jose has just taken all the pressure and intensity out of his approach in the last few games, just to give the squad a mental break before the final.

Everyone in the media is still comparing United to SAF's teams where winning and playing 60 games a season was not a big deal...but for this squad and this team winning and fighting for trophies is not the norm.

Our best chance is a Mourinho bus-parking special. We need to hope that the exuberance of youth also carries with it a large dose of naivety and that we're able to soak up the pressure and pick them off.

I just cannot see us scoring more than 1 goal :( We're going to have to pray we don't concede.

Nah, you think Carrick is risky to start over fellaini

They're both a risk in their own way. But Fellaini will start the match for sure.

That's going to be the plan I think. Problem is, we don't create no where near enough chances when we do that and when we get a chance we waste it. So Mou needs to get the right balance, sitting deep with six defenders is very risky, IMO.

So the team?

A) Romero
Dumb - Dumber - Blind
Valencia - Herrera - Pogba - Darmian
Mkhi - Rashford - Lingard

B) Romero
Valencia - Dumb - Blind - Darmian
Fellaini - Herrera - Pogba
Mkhi - Rashford - Lingard

I think probably option B, with Jones alongside Blind.

For me, Jones secured the place alongside Blind with his performance tonight.

I think he will go for Jones too. I actually believe he trusts him more than Smalling, especially after Jones git a good period before while playing beside Rojo while Smalling has been pathetic the whole season.

Win this, and people will forget our league campaign and all this gloom will turn to confidence.

Lose this and it's going to be a massive collapse from all of us here.

Simply a game that will make or break this season.

So if it's a choice of Jones or Smalling then who's the partner? Please not Blind...

There is very little to suggest we can simply up our game instantly for this. We have been playing shit football for a long time. I think it will be nervy.

Can you imagine this website if we lose? Like... imagine the threads.

This would be my starting lineup:

Valencia Smalling Jones Darmian

Herrera Blind

Mata Pogba Micky

Rashford

Mostly, it would give us a good balance to be able to defend, control the game, and have some good possibilities in attack.

IF A, I think you would flip Blind and Darmian. I think it all depends on Fellaini's fitness at this point as to which one we see.

Jose rotating players, giving core players ~20 mins per game or resting them = rusty and no momentum.

Ajax doing nothing for two weeks before the final = refreshed and could dominate us.

Do some of you guys read what you type?

I hope this is the lineup:

Romero
Valencia Jones Blind Darmian
Herrera Fellaini Pogba
Mkhi Rashford Martial

Rooney will look like a real grandpa if he has to match up to their speed... We can easily dominate the midfield with this lineup, lately lingard, including his running has been purely awful. Would be criminal to start him, Martial needed a confidence boost today tho..

I couldn't disagree with this more. We have scored 1 goal and conceded 4 in our last 3 games, all of which we parked the bus in. This season has shown us that our bench defenders are very poor in a low block and our attackers are useless when asked to defend deep in our own half and break on the counter, especially with Rashford isolated up top getting long balls pumped at him. I think if we are not brave and try to play a balanced game then the nippy Ajax front line will have a field day and at best, if Romero has a good game we will take it to penalties.

Midfield battle will be a key. We shouldn't let get through it and we should take the game to then. If midfield will be up to task defense won't have too much to do. If they'll go through it, making chances at will then it will be a fun, fun game..

No point bus parking in a final. They score and you have to change the set up and mentality of the whole team which is very difficult to do in 90mins.
Your best bet is to start as fast as you can and put a couple past their shocking defence before they have time to settle.
Its not going to be a classic but I can see you winning 2-0/2-1.
