Adults wearing replica football shirts...

How is it insecure to not like how something looks on myself?

I'm not sat here wishing I could wear them but I'm scared of the reaction! Now that would be insecure.

Call people snobs if you wish, that's far more accurate than insecure.

I don't have a problem with people wearing them whatever age. They're grown adults they can wear what they want who is anyone else to judge? It's the price that puts me off. I don't mind paying £30-£40 for my kids but would I pay £70 for a T-shirt in general, nope.

No matter what our views are on where and when to wear football shirts, i think we can all (at least the opposition fans :P ) agree on condemning people who are getting PSG Messi shirts and current season United Ronaldo shirts.

Why ?

I must say some of the comments here are absoluelty childish for mocking people that wear football shirts out in public whatever their age. They can wear what they want and are not doing any harm to anyone. I live New Zealand which is a pretty laid back country in regards to rugby/football tops. If it makes the person happy wearing a football shirt then leave them alone. I mean get on with your day and don't be judgemental.

I think it’s fair to wear them to watch games, either at the pub or the stadium. No problem wearing a jersey to the gym or for physical activities. They can be classified as leisure wear.

A full kit is only for idiots.

I'll admit this thread has been an eye opener for me. I usually spend my all my free time mercilessly mocking and judging adults (some kids too, to be perfectly honest) wearing replica football shirts. It's just something I've always done - I thought it was normal.

But now I'm starting to question my behaviour. I was planning on popping over to New Zealand next week for the sole purpose of mocking and judging replica shirt wearers (I call 'em RSWs), but I'm not sure I'll do it now. Could travel to NZ anyway, I suppose, without mocking or judging anyone - but it probably wouldn't feel the same.

What does that mean ? Fans not in UK should not buy the shirt because they cant go to the match, might not be able to go to PUB because of timezone and might not play sports actively ? :)

Football jerseys are extremely expensive and if you cant get to wear occasionally then there is no point in buying them. You cant use it as daily wear but surely you should be able to wear it occasionally.

Wearing Complete kits (shirts and shorts) is probably weird unless you are playing a game but just wearing shirt should not be judged.
I love some of the comments on here like this.

“How dare you judge someone for wearing a football shirt in public”
“Wearing a full kit is weird though”
The irony

There are people here who wouldn't even wear them at the match?

Seriously what's the point then. Football is tribal and when I see someone who is repping a shirt with my team I respect/like them more instantly, but maybe I'm weird. I'm 28 so still young compared to some of you lot, but I really don't see the problem.

I wouldn't recommend wearing it out on the streets if you're fat, but you do you.

You can make it work with a good fashion sense. Also if you're fat and old or rocking a Liverpool or City shirt it obviously won't ever look good.

It’s a British thing to pretend it is not cool wearing it above a certain age.

In most other countries around the world, no one really cares. Go to Asia, and lots of grown men wear football tops at the shopping malls etc. Even cooler if it is an original (and not a cheap rip off) and with player’s name on the back. Because it means you have money.

He wouldn't have bothered posting in this thread if he cared a bit less.
Maybe quite a lot less. He may have cared so much it'd take years of reflection to get to the point where he cares sufficiently little to pass this thread by.

Its not

it’s just a social media view on it (not real life)

in reality, young adults and middle aged adults wear Football shirts everywhere, I see them everywhere, they don’t care, I don’t care.

If footballers don’t wear it outside why should fans?

From a fashion pov it’s not ok and I agree with the OP.

What has social media got to do with the point of this thread? Are you suggesting that social media is creating a narrative that in reality people don't wear football tops?

Is this a cultural thing? Where I come from, it's perfectly normal to wear a football shirt no matter your age. I wear them here only to games, but still wouldn't bat an eyelid if someone chooses to wear them just for the heck of it, no matter their age.

it’s fine to wear one during every day life as long as you treat every day life as a footballer. waiting for a bus? shuttle runs up and down the pavement. someone brushes your arm on the underground? collapse to the floor, clutching your face.

speak to everyone like they are interviewing you and use as many football cliches as you can. spread rumours around your workplace that you might look to leave to a competitor next year. retire at 35.

Good idea. If I see someone wearing a Ronaldo shirt in Tesco at the self service till, I want them to take a wide stance, puff out their chest, take a deep breath and then throw their credit card at the ceiling.

I’m a 36 year old and just bought one authentic with CR7 on the back. I’ve never done it before. Don’t really care what anybody thinks but if buying a shirt encourages the club I love to buy players like CR7, then i’m all for it.

then remonstrate with the machine as if it’s a referee when it tells you there’s an unexpected item in the bagging area.

Match - Okay
Playing football - Okay
Pub - Iffy
General wear - All out odd

David Mellor ruined that one for us all.

Us kiwis are laid back in general. I live in Christchurch and people in less fashionable suburbs go to the supermarket in their dressing gown and pjamas. So in all honesty I have seen worse than people in a football shirt. Even that I am not judgemental. It's like well if it makes them happy that's all good.

What do we think?

My own opinion is as follows:

At a match: perfect.
Whilst playing sports/gym: fine.
At home/pub watching a match: All good.

Any other situation: wierd.

Also, the older you get, the more ludicrous you look whilst wearing another man's name on your back.

Obviously people can wear whatever they want but I reserve the right to laugh at the 45 year old wearing a tight "Gerrard 8" shirt down to Asda.

What says Redcafe? Are you a grown ass man who still rocks a replica down to Morrisons?

Definitely as I got older I wore them less.
Now I'll rarely wear an actual shirt. In my teens and 20s it's all I wore on top

Now I'd prefer a more subtle piece of clothing affiliated with the team.

My rather large collection of actual Jerseys is in a suitcase in the attic

Wearing a club's football shirt in stadium is okay I'd say but that's it, even wearing one to the pub seems a bit tryhardish. National team shirts on the other hand are much more common, at least here in Germany, so I kind of got used to it and find it totally fine.

Who cares? People should wear whatever they are comfortable in.

I live in either jersies/wrestling t shirts with hoodies and couldnt give a shit anymore what people think.

still buy The shirts wear them to the games haven't had a name on the back for years now. This doesn’t seem to be a big thing in Scotland with grown men but what I’ve seen is popular in England when I’ve been down for games.

never wear it to the the pub unless I’m in the pub away to the game. Only other time really wear them apart from round the house is if away on holiday abroad usually gets a couple wears then during the day. Nothing worst than seeing a grown man wearing a football top out for a meal on holiday who has properly been tearing about in 30 odd degree heat all day in it and appears at meal time in the same top

I constantly see people wearing all kind of football shirts in public, I don’t see the problem. I mainly wear them when watching football, but occasionally wear them on a day out with the family as well. Who cares... choose your own lifestyle and cloths, not my business.
