Why? Because one is a fashion designer and the other is a footballer?
Choosing a timeless brand that is just obviously more stylish than 99% of football shirts is an odd choice really.
I don't know about the UK, but it is perfectly normal and popular for grown man to wear replica kits here in Southeast Asia. In Singapore, you cannot go on a day out without seeing a few united shirts.

Lots of guys wear them out and about here in Brazil. Local teams and popular European teams. I have never once looked at someone and thought “wow, how weird” because they have a football shirt on.
I don’t wear them outside of exercise because I found them uncomfortable, but really surprised at the number of judgmental comments in the thread.
If you love the sport, why not wear them? They are as funcional as any other shirt in the supermarket!

also has an MUFC tattoo and a tongue piercing....Slightly off topic - but my nephew is now in a "phase" where he's extremely reluctant to wear anything but football gear - shirt + shorts - in any kind of setting.

Going to a match or if having a kick around great. Wearing another person’s name on by back once you’re over 16/18 is like having a poster on your wall and just very child like.

Don't see a problem wearing them anywhere bar formal events etc. It is really common to see various football and Gaelic tops around Belfast.

I don't know about that one, it's not that common when you look at something like that and realize that the makeup isn't hiding reality. And I'm not trying to be mean.
My own opinion is as follows:
At a match: Perfect.
Whilst playing football: Perfect
Whilst at the gym: Okay but it looks a bit tacky because of the sponsor
At home/pub watching a match: All good
Any other situation: Weird unless you're a middle-aged bloke and then I don't judge you because I assume you give no fecks

Some very fair points in this thread. I stayed away from our kits mid-teens until recently, after visiting the megastore at Old Trafford. I've only picked up our 3rd kits so far, they're more street-friendly.
What is this now ? 40 + year Olds cannot admire sports personalities? Age is just a number. I don't see any problem in wearing our beloved player names on the back.

I know. But (and this goes way beyond this particular topic, of course) he really doesn't seem to have any interest in settling for a particular team. He's totally obsessed with football - plays himself, plays FIFA all the time, wears nothing but football shirts...but it's all about individual players. He worships Lewandowski, De Bruyne, Messi (to some extent - but not that much, actually)...but he isn't in any shape or form a Bayern, City or Barca (now PSG) fan.
I find that interesting - it's 100% in line with where I imagine football "fandom" is headed.

I wear them out to watch matches, to work, to the store, wherever. Nothing wrong with it.
Admiration is one thing.
If you dress up like them to do your weekly food shop then people might giggle at you, that's all.
Don't wear footy shirts casually anymore. Have the 2018 Germany away kit for playing football/running as it's a ruddy bluddy nice tee.

Just buy it mate. Some people find it a bit silly, many others don't. It's honestly isn't that serious. If you like wearing them out, then feck what anybody else thinks.

I find having a name and number increases the authenticity of the shirt, which increases its appeal.
I prefer this type of stuff to the replica kits, personally.

43 year old here who vowed to just wear polo shirts and then got suckered back in by the rising retro market. I don’t judge others because if that shit was turned around I wouldn’t like it one bit. As long as you’re a United fan then it’s all good but wearing a City or Liverpool shirt at any age is a bit cringe.
