Adryan Tavares

I liked him a lot when I saw him over the summer in the U20 World Cup I think it was but I didn't see any need for him as we had Ravel at the time. I'd love to have him here, very gifted young player.

I watched Adryan several times for Brazil at the U17 World Cup in Mexico and he was excellent. He's small in stature but extremely clever and sharp in and around the penalty area. He's neither an attacking midfielder or a striker -- more of a forward that can both score goals and provide the passes for the strikers.

That Brazil side had several excellent players, including Wallace at right back, who spent more time in the attacking half than Dani Alves does for Barcelona, and Ademilson as the central striker who was a fairly late call up, scoring 5 goals in the tournament. I also liked Guilherme in central midfield -- he is graceful and technically gifted, which is a departure from the trend of using what Tim Vickery describes as 'glorified center-backs' as defensive midfielders in the last 30 or so years for Brazil.

He has been pretty impressive when I have seen him play. I was hoping back in the summer he would come here to be the next Giggs on the left wing. He is versatile too.

Well hopefully there's something to all the rumours about our connection with him that have been around for a year or 18 or so. That would be the reason to get first option on a player.

Wasn't he the same kid we had a pre-contract agreement ot in principle at least?

He was meant to be, we tried organise a trial for him but it fell through for some reason.

Adryan says he snubbed Man Utd

Flamengo starlet Adryan has confirmed that he shunned interest from Manchester United before signing his new deal last year.

The midfielder is one of Brazil's top prospects and is a regular for the Samba nation at youth level.

The Red Devils are already well aware of Adryan and they opened talks with Flamengo last year.

However, instead of moving to Europe the 17-year-old penned a new deal in his homeland, and he has now confirmed that he did rebuff interest from Old Trafford.

"Man United did talk to me and showed interest," he told Globo Esporte.

"But I was not interested in moving at that point. Let's see if something adequate comes up in the future."

Asked about moving to Europe, Adryan - who has been likened to Brazilian legend Zico - insists he is not in any hurry to cross the Atlantic.

"I don't think about going to Europe so quickly, things need to be done step by step," he added.

Probably dreams of Spain.

Brazilian players are less likely to come across now as the Brazilian economy is booming, and clubs can afford to pay their players well. There is no real reason for them to come across until much older now, unless they really want to leave home and play in Europe.

I've revised my previously positive opinion on him - now I believe him to be a flop in the making.

Is there a precedent for players who haven't débuted for their clubs to be selected for the Olympics?

Do you know what wage levels at the top of Brazilian football are like? The cost of living is so much lower, I imagine you could live like a king on far lower wages than players enjoy in Europe.

Cost of living is higher. I am unsure on the wage level, but have read about it increasing. I'll try and find something concrete and post it here.

Unusual. It's normally the reverse - the currency of developed countries buys more in developing countries than it does at home.

No wonder the mass exodus of Brazilian players seems to have slowed.

Shame as I really want Lucas Moura at United.
