Adrien Rabiot

He probably had his most solid performance ever for us on tuesday. He's improving at a steady rate and what's great about him is that he's always stepping up in the big games.

Kimpembe and him (plus Nkunku cameo) made the PSG academy proud yesterday.

Yesterday was a masterclass from Rabiot. Every attack in his vicinity seemed to just fizzle out or falter. I hadn't realised till yesterday that he was so sound in defence as well.
He might not be able to dictate games (yet) like Carrick does but definitely has the tools to replace Carrick. Against Barca he seemed like a better ball playing/carrying version of Matic.
He's at his best in a box-to-box role. And he's going to be something special in that role. No need to turn him into a #6

He's always very good tbh. Yesterday another example. I don't think he's ever not impressed me.

Not gonna lie didn't know who this guy was before watching the game but he stood out as he is so damm tall and was detroying every attacking attempt of Barcelona, so brilliant performance by him at a high profile match. It was also impressive the young lad who played as defender and was keeping in check the MSN, so hope to see more good performances by them in this UCL.

I read Thiago Motta was suspended for this game. Would Rabiot have started if Motta were available?

I think this would work*:

Herrera
Pogba - Rabiot

*Based entirely on the game vs Barca (first time I watch him for 90 mins) :nervous:

Pogba, Griezmann, Benzema, Payet, Kante, Matuidi, Lloris, Martial, Varane, Coman, Umtiti, Lacazette, Dembele, Rabiot...

The French have a scary, scary team... I haven't seen so much talent in a national squad in a long time. It's even scarier that most of them are either just hitting their prime or in their late teens/early 20's.

Even if he can't replace Carrick as a pure No.6 he could fit in the system of a 3 man midfield with Pogba and Herrera.

If his box-to-box play is at a level even higher than what he did against Barcelona as a quasi-No.6 then he'd probably end up being the most complete CM. Is that what you are alluding to (in terms of his box-to-box game)?

To be honest i haven't watched much of him of late, so I'm not really sure what his best role is but from what i have seen in the past he clearly has the talent and what i saw against Barcelona was probably one of the best CM performances i have seen in a long while. There are matches or performances that you remember some players by and this is the one for Rabiot that will stick with me forever, it was a pleasure watching it.

Yesterday was a monster performance! So young, against one of the best teams in the world he dominated the midfield from the start to the end. A huge talent to world class in 90 minutes, not often you see that.

If Verratti sometimes reminds me of Paul Scholes then Rabbit was a modern Roy Keane/Patrice Viera against Barca. His presence, authority, he was everywhere and everything whenever needed. It was a joy to see. I can't see PSG selling this young boy but if they ever will in the next two years then we should be all over him.

Players like de Maria wins you matches but if you want to win titles you need characters like Rabiot.

Rabiot is a very difficult one.

He was in City's youth teams few years ago before going back to Paris and playing more and more.

He's veryyyy talented and if his head his clean he'll do a great career, BUT

His off field life is a bit complicated now. His agent is his mum, and she's not really appreciated by the media here in France meaning that he's a kind of controversial image here.

He keeps complaining every 6 month about contract, wage etc in the media and Paris get frustrated by him.

I really think that there's a strong possibility that we buy him if we do offer him a big contract with big wages.

He can play as a shield in front of the defense and replace Carrick in a midfield three, he can also play easily in a midfield too, but, even if he's left footed, he's very confortable in a midfield trio in the right side.

So he's young, versatile, talented, and can be lured with a big contract.

He would be my first choice this summer

Aye, only lasted 6 months at City and apparently his mother (agent) played a big part in him leaving so soon after.

And I'm sure that his mother can do the same if a big offer is on the table. He has still not the same status than Matuidi, Verrati or Di Maria so we should attack him

In that case it wasn't his mother, he struggled to settle in Manchester and wanted to return in France after a few weeks.

Do you have inside information? The stories that I have dug up seem to say that he said he was 'unsettled' but that there was far more to it and his mother spoke openly about him not being 'fairly treated' while at City. Obviously I have no inside information - nor do I claim to - of what happened to a 13 year old when he was at City years ago so I can only go by what I read.

What I heard is that he wasn't happy there, he didn't had friends, wasn't speaking english and he is a mommy boy.

Don't forget Rabiot joined City at the age of ... 13.

What I heard is that he wasn't happy there, he didn't had friends, wasn't speaking english and he is a mommy boy.

The issue was rather the length of the contract

He said he was happy to live there

Matuidi left wing? :smirk:

No, the club has spent 40 millions to acquire Draxler.

Fair enough. The stories available all seem to say that what he said was that he was 'unsettled' but that there was far more to it. Does seem kind of strange that he would move to City's academy at such a young age but then move on after 6 months.

Good question. I think we would have had that midfield.

----- Rabiot ----- Verratti
------- Motta

What does @BBRBB think?
I don't know, any one of Rabiot, Motta or Matuidi could have seen the bench. Maybe Rabiot because he wasn't showing his early season form since his return from injury.

Concerning transfers he was the closest to joining Roma. After consistent harassment from mommy Rabiot a few years ago PSG agreed to let him go for about €15m on deadline day but AS Roma tried to lowball him and the numbers on the contract were not what was promised so he chose to stay in Paris, fortunately for us!

Key difference between Emery and Blanc: the 1st is unpredictable.

Aurier, Maxwell and Lucas could have been part of the starting 11.

PSG contract rebel (1 year left). Refuses to be reserve for France. Tall, skilful, midfielder. Seems to have some nice YouTube video. Shallow I know. Anyone watched him consistently?

@Marcus

Regarding Rabiot, he'd make a good replacement but given the other options I don't get the impression Mourinho would be interested.

Oops. Thanks for putting the thread here Raoul. He seems to be a grafter and a box-box player who is skilful. With 1 year left on his contract the price would be doable.

His style reminds me a bit of SMS, slightly less technical but definitely box to box with both track back ability and an eye for goal.

Very good player if he can get rid of the occasional brain farts.

I'd take him here.
