He has 145k / week according to Capology

probably lines up with a gross of 175 in Italy or thereabouts. I know he actually asked for more from juve, the report was he wanted 10m net, but could see no reports of what he got

The club has no intention whatsoever to hire a DoF and this has been the case throughout the last 10 years when it is obviously something we should be doing.

I don’t see it as some sort of instant solution though - what if you disagree with the DoF’s signings?

We have to start from somewhere and having a DOF that knows what he's doing is a first important step. It would mean that we won't spend 80m on a fridge and actually getting signings down the line. Regarding transfers I am not the type who ask for WC players. However there's no harm in saying we're buying a turd if we believe so is true

I does not say it all. We were desperate to get Pogba out of our club, they were happy to get him. Sometimes it can make a difference moving clubs for a player. I am not saying Pogba will be great for them, I think he is shit, but he might. Same goes for Rabiot, he can be very good for us or he might not.

Pogba was great with them and he's 10 times the player Rabiot is. Its really like comparing Veron to Cleverley with the difference that the latter doesn't come to blows with players and has a Karen as his mother/agent

I maintain that if this is 18m EUR, we're paying reasonable wages and it's a 3YR contract then this is absolutely fine.

If we give him stupid wages and/or a long-term deal, I'll be very worried

All of these stats comparison graphics I'm seeing on the internet b/w McTominay and Rabiot are really starting to annoy me. You only need to see a few of his games for Juventus or PSG to see he's levels above McTominay, who's totally out of his depth in anything but a "sit back and counter attack" team. Maybe Rabiot's just a boring water-carrier type player, but he'll at least fit well in Ten Hag's possession-based system and not completely embarrass himself like McTominay and Fred.

I do think he would be an upgrade on say McTominay so I don't mind this. Plus I hadn't realised he's only 27. Yeah ok nothing mind-blowing about this type of signing but marginal improvements are important.

We won't make CL qualification with the likes of Rabiot or Arnautoshit. That's gone. Let's do things right for once. We hire a top DOF and hope for the best. Paratici joined Spurs in July. By the end of January he made 3 signings that turned things around.

Partici brought in Bentencar who was a bench player to Rabiot and Dejan who also couldn’t get a game

Your just leading with opinions and not actually logic. I thought Arnautovic was a joke to be honest. But let’s just make the manager work. Conte brought Vicktor Moses and Ashley Young for Inter. They went from 4/5th to second.

I'm coming around to this now (maybe to keep sanity and optimism). He won't be one of the best midfielders in the league but he's a pretty solid and experienced midfielder.

I think back to Herrera who was never that good imo but he was at a level that with a partner of similar or better level could form a decent midfield.

It's not the upgrade we want but partner him with another CM and our midfield can be serviceable.

Agreed, you only have to watch him for 5 minutes to see he's technically a better player than McTominay. I'm not convinced about his attitude, pace, stamina or work ethic yet but I honestly havent followed his career enough. From what I've seen, I would still rather see him in the team over McTominay.

In terms of his stats, its worth pointing out that he played LM in a 442 for about half the games last season. I've not watched those games but I could imagine that very much didnt suit him - hence looking statistically worse than McTominay.

Personally, I'm disappointed that this is the extent of our transfer imagination with 3 weeks of the window left, but it is what it is at this point. A midfield of Bruno, Eriksen, van De Beek, Fred, Rabiot and de Jong wouldn't be my first choice, but it's an improvement in my view. If we dont get de Jong - we HAVE to get someone else because I'm not watching McTominay and Rabiot play together.

I would sign him because I trust @JPRouve more than all of the losers in here combined.

Bring him in.

I'm on the fence about it though.

My only issue in this thread is the mischaracterization of his "attitude" and the type of player that he is.

I have this nagging feeling that we’re going to sell Garner to Forest and this is the replacement.
Selling Garner for maximum profit whilst his stock is highest would be one of the smartest things this club has done in years. Replacing him with Adrien Rabiot… not so much.

Would that really be so bad? Would love an(other) academy product in midfield, but don't quite see it with Garner
Yes. He's a talented player and was fantastic at Forest last season. We would be mad to sell him. If can get a couple of midfielders in then we can consider loaning him to another PL team.

He has no attitude, pace, stamina or Work ethic issue. His issue, if you can call it that is that in possession he is too often timid, uninventive.

This is pretty much where I'm at

We wouldn't be selling him when his stock is highest. If we're bringing in a couple of midfielders then we should think about loaning him to a team like Southampton or Brighton. He would smash it at these teams and then he would be proven in the PL.

Not necessarily. With a buy-back to raise funds may make sense. I think Lindelof is leaving too and we’ll bring in Zagadou on a free. Left footed, aggressive, good on the ball. I think we need to raise funds for attacking signings - possible I’ve had too much caffeine though.

Rabiot AND De Jong would be a massive upgrade on Fred and Mctominay.

Quite confident till will be a good signing. Honestly, we need a bit of fire and character in the dressing room. They're all journeymen.

I can also see why we're chasing Arnautovic as well. It's just the overall vibe of the squad, they're all mental weaklings. Just look at what Ibra did when he came in.

Do you actually know the player? Rabiot has never claimed to be a number 10 nor an attacking player, he has never refused to defend or run. The point about Rabiot is that when he was 20-21, he preferred to play Matuidi's role than Thiago Motta's.
I think the confusion with this is probably because he used to play wearing the number 10 on his back, and in his younger days was prone to a fair few goals.

And if he has an underwhelming PL season? He had a great season in the championship where he was promoted. Nottingham Forest just got a £35m bid knocked back for Morgan-White. Are we ever going to get a potentially higher offer for James Garner than right now? I don’t think so.

Isn't signing rabiot basically just replacing a far less talented version of pogba along with all the same negative traits?

Juventus fans are desperate to get rid. Says it all.

Are you talking about the posts on the Juventuz forum? I had a look through the entire forum yesterday. They hate everyone apart from their new toy (Pogba)

Literally want everyone gone or they are useless.

Toxic forum that is.

Also look at it from the other way. We all wanted Pogba gone because hes a waster -to them he is the best player in the world coming back

Were that desperate for upgrade on McFred any chance we sign him and put in starting 11 for Saturday.

No hope for weekends game if McFred starts.

Sounds familiar. :wenger:

Surely Sport Witness should be banned ? They are not really reliable are they?

Its an aggregator. For the most part it just translates articles from non-English sources into English.

Worst case scenario is that he is an upgrade on McT.

Is he mentally strong?

If we loan him to the right team he will do well. I just fear if we sold him now we would be kicking ourselves in the near future. I want to see him play consistent PL football.

Like us they have a bunch of overpaid bums. Most of the Brighton starting 11 have toxic performance threads.

The only thing that he has in common with Pogba is being french.

I think he's an OK addition as a squad player; a rotation option with Fred. Certainly better than McTominay. The main issue is that he's the type of player you only want to be tied to for a couple of years though whilst you're in transition, and instead United will likely hand him a 5 year deal on massive wages and he'll be extremely difficult to shift until his deal almost runs out.

Not saying he'd be my first choice signing, but I do think United would be better targeting Arthur Melo though in this instance, just stylistically I think he is more the type of player they need in terms of press-resistance and ability to move the ball.
