Agreed, you only have to watch him for 5 minutes to see he's technically a better player than McTominay. I'm not convinced about his attitude, pace, stamina or work ethic yet but I honestly havent followed his career enough. From what I've seen, I would still rather see him in the team over McTominay.
In terms of his stats, its worth pointing out that he played LM in a 442 for about half the games last season. I've not watched those games but I could imagine that very much didnt suit him - hence looking statistically worse than McTominay.
Personally, I'm disappointed that this is the extent of our transfer imagination with 3 weeks of the window left, but it is what it is at this point. A midfield of Bruno, Eriksen, van De Beek, Fred, Rabiot and de Jong wouldn't be my first choice, but it's an improvement in my view. If we dont get de Jong - we HAVE to get someone else because I'm not watching McTominay and Rabiot play together.
