People keep sharing this absolute crap - if people would just use their eyes and brains they would know that there really is no comparison between the two.

Rabiot is a big step up from McTominay I dont care what people say
I am extremely surprised by the negativity toward him. He is quality, and a bargain for the quoted price. Whether he is the right fit for your coach and system is another story.

Does he actually play deep? Don't remember him on that role for PSG, that said, couldn't say I've watched him to be fair.

Do you consider that Rabiot is a midfielder that normally averages 83.6% of his passes?

Wouldn't it be simpler all around if you just pointed out any problem you're aware of with these stats, if there are any? What, are they just for one game or something?

Remind me how much we received for Telles, how much we will receive for Bailly, Jones etc.

£15m is not 'paltry', especially for a player they want rid of.

It's paltry in relative terms.

A £15 million layout on a French international footballer is as risk-free as it gets for a club of United's financial strength. Supporters of Fulham, wolves, etc might feel differently.

Is this supposed to be a defence of Rabiot? :nervous:

Well yes, Rabiot struggled at Juve but he might do better with us. There was a period he was a very competent player for PSG.

We need more bodies and he's a decent player, I'd trust him over Fred every day of the week. Fred is horrific.

Use their eyes for what, if you watch him play for Juventus he does a worse job as a central midfielder than our own, I mean I don't buy into stats alone but a midfielder with bad pass completition is a midfielder with bad pass completion in a worse league!

The majority of people are running with some half wit journalist opinions that this is a panic buy with the potential of being a troublemaker.

Strip it back. We were linked with him previously in the summer. Maybe yesterday just sped up the process. There has been history with his attitude which was when he wanted to be the main man in midfield instead of playing a holding role which he is pretty good at.

Rabiot coming here and playing a specific role and taking McT out of the team is a WIN. No two ways about it

Another dumb thing about this deal is that we waited so long we missed out on good options like Vitinha or Caqueret. Now we are here seeing posts convincing ourselves that Rabiot is a good option to have

He is an upgrade on what we have so not a big issue. But if he is the alternative to De Jong then we are screwed

Didn't Cantona say he was going to win the Balon d'Or once? It was some midfielder for PSG it was just a bizarre statement

Look at his stats throughout his career if you are going to look at stats. As well as watching him. He is comfortable on the ball, can carry the ball well. Very good playing holding midfield. Massive upgrade on McTominay and thats just a fact.

I already shared them several times. I'm more interested in your opinion since you only shared a picture.

Well, that's very commendable, but I nevertheless would perhaps not take it for granted that everyone has read them just because you've posted them a few times. I didn't post it because I have much of an opinion on them, I just thought they were a topical piece of information worth sharing. From what I can see, and assuming they're relevant stats (looks like FBREF, no?), they don't make a case Rabiot is a better player. But of course, that's not a question you can answer with stats alone. I've not seen Rabiot play very much, so am not really qualified to make a strong judgment on him. I have seen enough of McTominay, and must say I find it a little hard to believe that someone playing regularly for France isn't a better overall player than him. Also, I would say that generally McT is a player whose stats look better than what you witness on the pitch. Sometimes that's because important things are hard to notice, but with him it feels more like some critical failings are not well caught by stats.

But again, since you clearly do have an opinion on them, maybe quit beating about the bush and share them?

You shouldn't be really. Place is toxic as feck right now.

Juventus fans think he is shit and are glad he is going and now he might be coming here, so what being less shit than what we have but still being properly shit is a good thing?

United fans think Pogba was (and is) shit and Juve fans are elated they got him back on a free.

Hmm

I don't take him seriously, he's the same poster who had Aaron Wan Bissaka in his all time EPL squad and was mesmerised by the gegenpress.

He also lied twice in a discussion with me, which he was caught out on. One of the worst posters on the forum.

I mean by every metric you measure a midfielder he is comparably worse.

So is Jobe Bellingham available?

I wonder if Rabiot was Scottish if he’d be shifted to CB??

The stupidity people find in stats.

I haven't watched Rabiot as much as some but every time I have (PSG , Juve and France) I think he is tidy at best (which would still be an upgrade on Uniteds midfield) but mostly underwhelming and usually makes me question the managers decision for playing him/ wonder how he's had such a long and illustrious career while being so ineffective so regularly.

Seems to be a poor man's/ inconsistent Gini Wijnaldum.

Surely they’d have taken less if the reports in here are true - they were about to pay him to leave? Maybe that means they aren’t true but there’s a lot of smoke.

Considering our lot faff about trying to talk people down constantly I would imagine it's a no, we do overpay for players but we don't ignore the opportunity to negotiate if we think the price can be dropped.

All these posters who purely say we should sign him just cause he is better than McT are going to be sorely disappointed when a month from now we see he isn’t the answer to our midfield woes. His work ethic isn’t the best. He will become a distraction. We will sign him to a 5+1 year contract. Give him £200k in wages and we will eventually send him on loan 2 years down the road after it doesn’t work out. We seen this movie before. We won’t improve one bit unless we stop throwing money away at these ST solutions.

£15 mil isn’t a bad deal. We lost 4 midfielders this summer and we need improvements on the ones that remain. If it’s Rabiot plus a top class midfielder (FDJ is probably unlikely but one of the alternatives we’re keeping warm) we’ll be going in the right direction.

The order in which these deals are being announced isn’t doing us any favours but we’ll only really know for sure what our plans are by the end of the window.

No player can single handedly fixed man utd issue. Not even a prime Messi or CR7 can do that. It is a team or maybe even a club management issue.

We just lost our first game of the season whilst other teams looked good.

Rabiot is a good player but we have been hoping for De Jong all summer and he is not as good as De Jong.

I think it is understandable. With that said, I think when he makes his debut for us this will suddenly become a much more positive thread.

A step up from Fred and McTominay, but nothing particularly exciting

A player thats better than McTom and Fred for £15 million should put into perspective how much we'd get for them

I'm happy to have Rabiot tbh. We've looked at him in the past, we definitely need some midfielders in, and if we can get him reasonably cheap, then I don't mind it at all. It's not like he's a shite player. He's good at linking up, he's quick in possession and his technical.

Why are you guys complaining so much? Would you guys rather we stick with Fred and McTominay?

I think we'll get plenty of mileage out of Rabiot. 100 games+ at the very least.

It's not the inspired signing I was hoping for at the start of the summer, and if this was who Ten Hag wanted, we should've acted months ago, but I'll take it.
