We've tried to sign him before so seems a decent chance we'll be back in for him.

Truthfully, Mctominay, Eriksen, Casemiro and Amrabat should all be shown the door. However we'd need 3 midfielders brought in to compensate, and a lot of other positions to fill too. When you need multiple signings in one position, it's difficult to turn down a free transfer on a short term deal.

Though I guess the signing on fee and wages could put us off.

I also really want us to continue signing a younger profile of player, which Rabiot is not. We've seen with the likes of Casemiro and others, we've been quite unlucky with players falling of a cliff in terms of quality when they hit their 30s. But again, less of an issue when it's a free transfer.

Amrabat isn't even ours. I completely forgot about Eriksen but my god he can't even complete a 90 these days

How when other than a loan spell at Tolouse he has only had 2 clubs in his entire senior career?
How comes in his last few years he seems to be only signing short term deals? No doubt coining in more money each time.
You want him at United, fair enough. I hope that United do t deal with him or his money grabbing mum

Good player, but he'd mess up the wage structure unless he's suddenly completely changed his demands. Wouldn't agree to anything over £150k per week and even that's a stretch.

Unless he's asking for a fat long term contract, getting him in on a short-term deal wouldn't be a bad option to fill a hole for a year or two. Motivated players playing for their next contract is a positive in my book.

Rabiot + Neves over Ugarte for me
Those signings make no sense when we are in need of more of a destroyer/CDM type and only Ugarte from the three is. Not to mention the cost of getting those two will be almost double of Ugarte’s (I’m including fees, salaries and bonuses).

I’ve seen the experience of Casemiro, Varane, Eriksen, Weghorst, Sabitzer, Cavani, Ronaldo, Sanchez et al. Serious question, who was the last 29+ year old we’ve signed who was successful for more than 1 season and didn’t end up on the ‘dead wood’ list?
Casemiro - 70m
Varane - 40m (and we knew injury prone)
Eriksen - Free (bit part player)
Weghorst - January signing after Cr7 fiasco
Sabitzer - January signing after too many injuries
Cavani - backup (did well for us)
Cr7 - emotional signing

Its a different situation this time.

Rabiot would be a horrible signing for us. Not because he is a bad footballer but because he represents everything we should be avoiding:

1. Wrong personality, potentially real problem for team culture
2. Money merchant who would come on insane wages, disrupting our efforts to bring wages down to reasonable levels across the board, motivating others to ask for more
3. Too old. Our project needs players who will are young Nd hungry and will still be here in 4-5 years. He is none of that

I will really hate if INEOS sign him

Haven't really seen any reliable sources saying we're interested this summer?

I'd probably go with no thanks, didn't want him last season, but then I did want Amrabat so maybe I'm just an idiot.

Not sure his character fits with how we're trying to craft the squad.

Rabiot is more of a left sided box to box midfielder. He can sit as a DM but I don’t believe that is his preference. He likes to run with the ball so he’s decent at that. He’s decently strong and tall, so he will contribute to set pieces at both ends of the pitch. If we sell McT, Rabiot would be a decent replacement IF on decent wages, but that would be highly unlikely especially since he’ll be on a free. He will also expect to be a starting midfielder. His mother agent will take us to the cleaner’s. He’s not a priority signing. We need a specialist defensive midfielder.

We need younger players to balance out the aging players midfield (Eriksen & Cas), he is decent but he is 29 and will demand an arm and a leg for salary.

I'd rather we get a younger player.

You are fine, mate. Amrabat won us FA Cup. We were never winning it without his fantastic game in the final, and he only had half a season with us on a loan. I think it was a productive loan, overall. even if he is not going to be kept or if he didn't live up to the rosiest of expectations.

I personally would rather keep him than McTominay Sell McT for ~25mill, buy Amrabat and thete's probably still some change to help buy Ugarte as well. We certainly need two DMFa with the number of games we play.

Would be very well suited to how we want to play, and what we lack. I can see why we'd be more interested in Rabiot than Ugarte, although in an ideal world we go for both and sort out our midfield.

Yeah I would like to get both, why not pick him up as free agent and propose loan with obligation for Ugarte

I guess that makes this tweet laughable

Presume this isn't a very reliable source, will wait for one of the reliable Juve ones to speak. Doesn't bother me if I'm in the minority for still wanting to sign him. I could understand people saying no if he was going to cost a transfer but he's a free agent.

He's a really good player who's grown up a lot in the last few years, becoming a leader at Juve in a tough period. I still don't think we should sign him.

You have to assume he's after a long contract with big wages and a hefty signing fee, undoing a lot of the good work we've done regarding salaries while tethering us to his decline. We don't want that.

Surely it’s not a huge risk on the assumption his wages are sensible? He’s 29 and currently on 150k a week which for a regular in the France midfield is perfectly reasonable.

Seems a no-brainer to me.

Yeah if it's a long contract then understand saying no, however think there's no harm in at least proposing a deal and seeing what he says

If he was happy with 150k-a-week, he'd probably have accepted Juve's offer to extend. He's left them in the lurch because he wants a lot more.

He's decent, but he comes with some baggage doesn't he?

so does my mum, yet she still gets a lot of suitors at service stations and public car parks. maybe he just needs to try those areas too.

Serie A wages are net wages, so 150k is close to 300k per week.

Is that been reported, him wanting a big increase on his salary?
As far as I can tell, there isn't much reliable on his numbers. Juve are thought to have offered him £7m-a-year as a base and he wanted £9m plus bonuses to stay. Typically, players ask for more money to up sticks than stay where they are (which we saw when he reportedly wanted ~£11m to join us two windows ago), plus he's seen what we give the likes of Casemiro and Varane. I think it's safe to assume that free doesn't mean free here.

If he wants a one-year deal att £150k-a-week, then by all means, sign him up. But he'd probably want to fire his agent soon after agreeing to that and that could make Sunday lunch a bit awkward.

No brainer as a free agent, surprised that we're not all over this.

What about a 2 year deal, like I say if INEOS feel he is asking too much then we will walk away
