Adolfo Gaich - San Lorenzo striker

That's if a deal had already been agreed and we'd have heard something if it had, so it's unlikely but him having a medical elsewhere isn't though, and wouldn't be the first time a British club had done it so who knows.
Royal Antwerp were our feeder club for many years. I'm guessing we're still on good terms. It's less than 60 miles from Bruges.

We are not going to sign him. We went through the same crap last summer and it was like this with Jose.

We have an incompetent board that takes a month to sign a player.

Surely worth a gamble at such a fee

Except if he comes good he will upset Martial and potentially block Greenwood's path to the first team so obviously we shouldn't sign him..

The only real thing is work permits.
The first is nonsense repeated everywhere with no ground to stand on.
The other two is absolute bullshit. Just because SA players tend to dream of one day playing for Real or Barça, it doesn't mean PL clubs do not attract them, or that they don't know anything about it.
I'm sorry but I think that's the worst post I've ever seen on the Caf.

Not to mention 3/4 of Argentinians have Italian ancestry and many qualify for Italian passports. Italy is the natural move for them and often legally uncomplicated.

Wasn't there a rule now where we you can sign a player from countries the would have required permit in the past but their monthly payment must be over a certain treshold?

Eh, are you're saying he's currently in Belgium?
It was reported that he pulled out of the Argentina u23 pre Olympic squad to sort his transfer out with Brugge which later collapsed so could still be in Europe.

Even at his young age he would be physically one of the strongest players in our squad at 20.

Has anybody seen this guy play or had heard of him before yesterday? We dont need somebody who is just going to take up space, we have enough players that do that already.
Right now we need body's to fill the space, guy looks good at least from the you tube video and the release clause is not bad either. If we are enquiring about him at this stage then we should've done our home work, I see more right than wrong with this signing.

We won't sign him but we should, he can't be any worse as a #9 than Martial when he's having one of his regular anonymous games.

Looks a good prospect (purely from that one video).

At €14m/£11m would surely be worth just paying the release, not a great deal of risk...

Hard to tell given it's a bunch of goals in a poor league in the video but his technique at least looks good and if the buyout clause is only €14M then he might be worth the punt as I imagine we could flog him to a Spanish side if it doesn't work out.

If he's in Europe, which I doubt, if we wanted him it obviously wouldn't be a problem sorting a medical, but if he's still in South America it would.

It really wouldn't.

You can literally arrange a medical to take place in your lounge if need be all it takes is a professional to sign off that all was good.

Even if it is from one video, but of all the random strikers we have been linked with, this guy looks the real deal. Has got good pace, finishing reminds me of Harry Kane. May be he is too raw, but surely looks like he has the ingredients to be a huge success in future.

Doesn't every half decent player have a YouTube video that makes them look great?
It's 14 million euros plus a 4 year contract paying tens of thousands a week. So it's not a risk as long as it's not your money that ends up based on a video that captures someone best moments.

From the video I got he's a unit and the standard of defenders he plays against is pretty terrible. Near impossible to judge him unless you've watched him in full gamesa few times.

Adolfo Gaich – $15m/£11.5m
Everton have clearly been scouring release clauses on Football Manager, for Adolfo Gaich has apparently entered their consciousness, too. It could be the fact he has four goals in nine Superliga Argentina games, is an international at just 20, has a reported fan in Diego Maradona and has already earned himself an ADOLFO GAICH – Welcome to SL Benfica? – Skills & Goals (HD) YouTube highlights package. Or it could be that he is built like a brick sh*thouse and Goodison Park remains understandably obsessed with Denis Stracqualursi.

It would undoubtedly be a gamble. Gaich made his professional debut for San Lorenzo in August 2018 and most of his success has come at youth level, including a runners-up medal at the 2019 South American U20 Championship and a tournament victory and Golden Boot win at the Pan American Games that same year.

Club Brugge, Villarreal and Schalke have also been linked and each would be of far more benefit to a player whose development could be stunted under the fierce Premier League spotlight. In the meantime, that £11.5m fee will become more attractive with each passing week.

But likewise the risk/reward ratio is much less than some of the others we’ve been linked with. Even if he’s not a great success we’ve every chance of recouping.

Here's one to get the Muppet juices flowing. El tanque is a class nickname too.

How do you think Brugge were going to sign him? They had a medical lined up wherever he is

At that price just pay the required fee? It's not like they're asking insane money.
Does seem odd we've been linked with two loans with obligations to buy. I feel like Ed/judge after negotiating with Inter thought, "this method is genius" and now blanketly applying it to anyone.

This story doesn't pass the smell test. Why would we be trying for a loan with an obligation to buy on a 14m transfer? Surely we'd just pay up and get it done if we were interested.

He has a 14 m euros release clause, why can't we simply pay the amount? don't think that it should be that big of a deal for United.
For every super kid that succeeds, you get about 10 duds so it's always good to be cautious. Bebe, Obertan, Kleberson, Anderson, Djemba-Djemba, Balottelli, etc

14 million is 14 million. It can be a lot of money if spent wisely. Leicester got Mahrez, Vardy and Kante combined for half that amount.

It's the selling club that puts the obligation to buy into the deal, not the buying club, otherwise literally anybody could take him on loan then just send him back.

Because our money men are ballbags?

I do feel like the one point we're all seriously neglecting here though is that the lad is called Adolf. Got to be Lazio bound surely?

He wasn't in Spain though, he got as far as Hong Kong then was called back.
That was a matter of timing, rather than a matter of procedure.

Bakambu was just about to board the plane to Europe. If Barcelona's change of mind had happened a tiny bit later, the player would have already been on the flight and/or touched down before news of the withdrawal had came through.

For what it's worth, Dan James went through something similar when almost signing for Leeds. The distances were obviously much shorter, but it shows how such situations can transpire during football transfers.
