Ademola Lookman | Atalanta

Scamacca and Lookman look likes great bargain for Atalanta.

The number of PL castoffs doing well in Italy is staggering, and it's not just the difference in quality of the league either, as Italian teams are generally doing quite well in Europe lately as well.

Aside from the couple you've mentioned, all of Darmian, Lukaku, Mkhi, Giroud, Loftus-Cheek, Tomori, Pulisic, Smalling, Abraham, Anguissa, Kolasinac, Zappacosta have had at least good spells over there, and all of them were unwanted by their clubs or relegated from the PL. There might be even more.

I'm still amazed he's got to this level. Never thought he had this in him even when he left us as a teenager, but it's especially strange given the next 4-5 years went for him after that.

He'd be a useful option for Arsenal off that LW as an alternative to Martinelli I think if they could get him for a reasonable fee. Not sure how much Atalanta might demand for him though, he's got a couple of years left on his deal I believe.

Lookman's improvement is one of the most dramatic improvements in modern football. It's right up there with Raphinha turning into a Ballon D'or candidate.
My favourite was when he scored that hat-trick and TNT and Joe Cole repeatedly used the phrase “moulded in the cages of Wandsworth” about a million times as if playing five a side in a gated pitch is a huge thing that millions of kids don’t do every day.

I doubt we'll look at him, but I think he'd fit a good profile for that left CAM for us - especially if its a possibility Garnacho needs to be sold for PSR. I'd be for it. Seems to have the attributes (minus penalty taking) and he's come a long way since his Fulham/Leicester days.

Gasperini is a twat. Lookman was the only reason they put up even a semblance of a fight vs Brugge.

The manager comments were childish and I think Lookman response is justified. I hope he leaves the club since they don't value his contributions.

Is he one of those players that looks a bit average in the PL but really suits a different league? He wasn’t that impressive when he was playing in the PL but he might have been young? I can’t remember. But are we confident he’d be able to perform in the PL like he can in Serie A?

I wouldn't say he was average in the PL, more inconsistent. He showed flashes at each club (Everton, Leicester and Fulham) of what he's doing now in Serie A but he's now doing it on a consistent basis for Atalanta.

Whenever I saw him he didn’t really do much. I think there was a period where he was doing well and the pundits were taking him up but fizzled out (maybe it was at Everton?). Do you think he could do it consistently in the PL then? Have you seen much of him at Atalanta?

No thanks, the last player we signed from Atalanta turned out to be shite.

If we didn't sign players from clubs where our signings had ended up shite, we would have a small collection of clubs to choose from

Yeah but the one before that was really good for us after half a contract, for half a season, in the bottom half of the table.

He was being operated as a winger most of the time which isn't really his game. He works better when he's not really tasked with defensive duties but is able to operate more forward and can be a bit more central. There are definitely teams in the PL where he could shine if played properly. You could probably have him and Amad as your two AMs.

We should be in for him - he's improving, should be cheap and relatively low wages. Given our finances he'd make good attacking depth.

Now that he's back from injury, I'm hoping he can lead them towards the title charge.

There's a few of these attacking players who would seem 'sensible' transfers i.e. cheap, lower wage and not coming in with the expectations of being some world class big name and used to play in the PL.

This guy, Tella at Leverkusen who was at Soton, Douglas Luiz seemingly available. Much lower risk, more known quality mid twenties guys.

We also got Amad there.. But yes Atalanta is a special case. Many players do very well in Gasperini’s system and struggle elsewhere… Specially attacking players. CDK was considered a big flop at Milan and is now performing very well with Atalanta. Koopmeiners was great for Atalanta and seems to be quite average since joining Juventus.

From memory he was never really given the right role or license in the prem previously because much like Memphis Depay his natural position was misunderstood. He is a wide forward who need to be able to operate centrally but also given license to drift out wide when neccessary. During his time in England he seemed to always be referred to as a winger and operated much wider with less license to take up inverted positions. He won't find the premiership as easy as Italy but he would be a good fit for any side that gives him similar license to what he has at Atalanta either in a 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 setup.
