Adama Traore

He might be becoming one of the best players in the world, his ball carrying and dribbling ability alone is an anomaly, only Hazard and Messi come close in that regards, now he’s adding a final ball crossing and end product he’s becoming pretty complete.

He likes to dribble with the ball. His game will be more complete if he works on his off the ball movement and also his shooting skills.

He’s a long way off that.

But he’s definitely one of the best wide players in the PL at the moment.

This is just ridiculous he's the only player in the league able to do this.

No he’s a kick and run merchant!

Will everyone stop evidencing his superior ball control, strength and dribbling ability in enclosed spaces he’s just a mature Daniel James.

Stop using reality against this argument it’s not fair!

Although I would like us to sign Sancho, I would be very happy with Traore with what I have seen from him this season.

4 goals 9 assists. Think he would do very well here. Dribbling, strength, speed, and looking a very good crosser of the ball, missile of a shot. Very promising player.

Watching the highlights here and it's the second game in a row that he looks nigh on unplayable. His rate of improvement at the moment is looking pretty special.

Daniel James has 3 goals and 6 assists this season in the League, coming from a Championship team, and almost 2 years younger.

Yes and he’s also not capable of slicing through teams with his dribbling like Adama.

The arguments in defence of James are inexperience but in order for that to hold bearing the assumption is you feel he’ll play like Adama at some point.

I think Adam plays a very different style and it’s lazy to say we have a quick player in Dan James. They do not play in similar ways.

Would you say the same about Adama just a season ago, when he had 1 goal and 1 assist in the League?

Honestly if Dortmund start being really difficult about Sancho, i'd say throw 60/70m at Wolves for Traore.

He's made a real improvement this year and has genuine end product now. He was always just fast and strong back in his Boro days but now he's absolutely lethal.

Imagine his speed on the end of Pogba/Fernandes passes?!

He's a very good squad level player, at best. He should never be the answer to the starter RW issue, and for the price he would command, it would be a silly move when we have Dan James here already who's younger and has 70% of his productivity.

His close control and supreme confidence that he will not be dispossessed is like peak Mane or Salah but on serious steroids. Klopp, Pep, Ole must be looking at him very closely. It's just a case of someone his size picking up repeating injuries.

Would you say the same about Adama just a season ago, when he had 1 goal and 1 assist in the League?

His main problem was his decision making, but he was always a good dribbler (Even last year, commentators/pundits/players/managers were saying he was extremely talented, just his decision making was dodgy). James hasn't really shown a lot in terms of dribbling - mostly he runs in straight lines and just beats players through his quick turn of pace. That does not work so well against Premier League teams, though.

James has a pretty hard shot, but with his right foot. That isn't much use when he is playing on the right-wing. Also, his crossing is pretty substandard.

Even if you consider him good enough, you have to consider that James is better on the left. He would only be good enough as a sub for the left-wing. On the right, he is pretty poor, so we need a right-winger, which Adama Traore is.

I dont get how people can compare traore and James, James's had a good impact in the first month but you can clearly see traore is just looking better and better as time goes on where as its completely the opposite with james.

I would be very surprised if traore doesn't become one of the best wingers in the world in a few years time at a big club, the potential has always been there since his Barca days.

I said in the other thread about what if happens if we don't get Sancho, that this guy is the one we should be targeting.

At 24 he's entering his peak now, and he now has genuine end product to go along with his ridiculous dribbling ability.

Now is the time basically.

I don't know where the comparisons to James are coming from. Have those people actually been watching both of the players closely? James wasn't near Traore even before his improvement this year, as Traore always had frightening dribbling ability which James hasn't got, but now, it's not even close. It's an absurd comparison now.

Would he definitely come to us? He seems to have a pretty special bond with Santos and might be reluctant to leave just yet.

He's really gotten it together this season and his all-round game and end product have massively improved.

I know it'll upset some, but prior to this season he was a typical erractic speed merchant with poor end product. That's in the past now and he's improved a-lot over the past 12 months.

have to disagree, mate. I said it in his thread when he was at Middlesbrough - his passing, close control and crossing were already good.

The only difference now is he's playing with better players who make use out of his runs and passes. He did the same stuff at Middlesbrough but they just couldn't keep up with him.

If Traore was to be compared to anyone, it'd be Saint-Maximin, in my opinion. Another player who seems to just go past players with pure ease. In terms of statistics, the two lead the way in the Premier League for average dribbles per game. Saint-Maximin with 4.9 and Traore with 5.1. Only Messi and Neymar better that in all of Europe, with 5.7 and 6, respectively.

Regards Saint-Maximin, he seems to be at the stage Traore was at last season, in terms of his decision making. If like Traore, he can improve that, then I can imagine he'll be someone that bigger clubs be looking at too.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Having watched plenty of him, I always felt he lacked basically everything to make it at the top level bar his speed and occasional moment of magic.

He did have some good games for 'Boro, granted. But that was at Championship level. He's never impressed me as a PL player until this season. MOTD last night were even highlighting his all-round game progression. He's come on leaps-and-bounds this season and that's evident by his output and game time compared to last season.

That's fair enough!

He's definitely come on leaps-and-bounds this season as you say, and I'm not saying he was great before this season, but I personally saw enough about his game away from dribbling to indicate he was more than just a speed merchant.

I actually don’t really think he fits anyone above in the league. He’s a proper touch line winger with outrageous skill and speed. There’s a reason almost all of his assists are lofted crosses to Jimenez at the back stick.

He’d add another element to everyone from the sheer chaos he causes defenders — no denying that. But I’m still not convinced he’s worth the hassle of prizing him from a very stacked Wolves side.

Don't think he's any good personally, by that I mean good enough for a top team.

If he joined instead of Sancho, I would love to be proved wrong.

He’s quite similar to the player Valencia was when he first came to United. James, for whatever reason, seems reluctant to use his best asset as much.

He's a funny one in that he debuted for Barcelona at like 16/17 so he definitely had something about him even though his style of play was most un-La Masia like.

He joined Villa still very young and looked like a headless chicken. He then impressed for 'Boro in the Championship but I felt he looked way too erratic when he played for Wolves last season back in the PL. He's 24 now, so he really had to start producing more end product and improve his game this season and he's done just that.

My judgement of players is probably awful tbf as I was full sure Taarabt was nailed on to make it to the very top following his Zidane-esque season for QPR in the Championship!

Ha, we've all made our fair share of mistakes when it comes to judging players! I mean, it was only a few months ago I was expressing concerns on here about signing Bruno, and it's fair to say I was completely wrong on that one, which I'll happily admit because I'd rather be wrong and have a good player than be right and have a bad one. Not that I thought he was bad anyway, but I digress!

For what it's worth, I usually agree with the majority of your posts anyway. You can take that as a good or bad thing :D

Quite a few doubted Bruno from what I could see. I couldn't really pass judgement as I hadn't seen near enough of him. But yeah, it's great when you get it wrong and it benefits United!

Touche, you're one of the good 'uns.

He’s quite similar to the player Valencia was when he first came to United. James, for whatever reason, seems reluctant to use his best asset as much.
Yeah he's got the raw athleticism to blow you away from a standing start, even if you know it's coming. That was Valencia's game too. His assist for Jimenez was just like Valencia.

Saw his impact in the West Ham game, and it was game-changing. Granted, he came on as a sub, it really wasn't fair on the defenders to go against a fresh Traore, but he blitzed them. It's like they were practice cones at times.

Odd that he is being compared to James, when it looks like Greenwood would be the one he would have to uproot. With Mason coming back a bit bulked up, you wonder how many games James will get to start in a normal season. Mason already looks to be ahead in the pecking order for RW, but he can also rotate across the front line.

With Ole running out the 3M front line, I doubt he turns to Traore if Sancho is a no go. Too much to pay a rival for someone who may be a rotation player.

He would also cost an arm and a leg though, surely. £60m?

This is just ridiculous he's the only player in the league able to do this.

Very similar to Martials run yesterday in the first half where he binned like 3 people and pulled away from them.

I think he’s very good and equally overhyped in my opinion. He’s not just a hit and run artist but equally he’s not half the footballer he is made out to be.
I think he’d be the wrong signing for us and how we play, I’d actually be really disappointed if we went for him. If there is no Sancho then Chiesa would be a better fit for me.

Look at his assist against West Ham, what more could you want from a winger?

If he could improve on his shooting and cutting inside he could become unstoppable.

We need more of a 3rd striker/ inside forward than an honest touchline winger. It's not a problem of quality, but a stylistic one.
