This article says that the parnership would not be the same as between Liverpool and Le Havre (Le Havre has became a sort of "B team" for Liverpool, and young talents of Le Havre like Sinama-Pongolle and Le Tallec will join automatically Liverpool). Nantes would help Manchester to develop a school of football (Nantes is experienced in that domain, Nantes school of football has learned everything to Desailly, Deschamps, Makelele, Karembeu, ... and most of Nantes players), and Manchester would help Nantes to develop merchandising and would invest money in the french club.
Francisco Filho, a friend of David Marraud (ex-goalkeeper of Nantes, now keepers coach) is already working with Manchester United with under 17 team.

Here's the above article after running it through a translator:

Wednesday 11 December 2002 Soccer: The formation to the center of the debate The FC Provide will sign a partnership with Manchester United After the Racing Club Paris, before a possible establishment in Africa, the FC Provide will ratify, very soon, a partnership with the prestigious English club of Manchester United. Soccer Club of Provide will announce, of here a week, the signature of a partnership contract with Manchester United. For the moment, the president of the FCNA, John luc Gripond, does not hold to assert information but, for as much, does not deny the new one: « This is not idiot. Manchester is not an ordinary club. » Well to the opposite! The red Millionaire, with his budget of 152,8 million Euros, is before all a formidable machine to win that accumulates the trophées but also the profits. A reference with its three cuttings of europe and its fourteen titles of England champion. A model with its 40 000 subscribers to Old Trafford and its 150 000 members éparpillés on the body of the globe. A true board to bills with its sponsors that align the million to post itself alongside the players of Roy Keane (47,11 million Euros for the mobile communication brand Vodaphone to appear on the maillots or 59 million Euros for Nike, the new équipementier) without forgetting the hotel, it wandered around, the Red Coffee and the mégastores... The achievement of long discussions and of several movements of the general director of the FCNA, Eric Leport, and athletic director, Robert Budzynski, in the northwest of the England. Without forgetting the English visits of the side of the Beaujoire or Jonelière from the alex brother Ferguson or of their boss scout, Mike Brown. To the turn of Africa « This partnership will with a big one of europe dates back to a year », explains John luc Gripond. The contract will carry essentially on two axes: the formation and the Merchandising. Even if the Red Devils are not ignorant in the matter of formation as some testifies the éclosion at the heart of the team mancunienne of the Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, the brothers Neville, Roy Kean and Beckham, the England possesses again delay in this domain. Here why Manchester United besides attached itself, July 15 last one, a French professor in the person of Francisco Filho, to induce the 17 years of the club. This friend of David Marraud has, during fourteen years, worked to the inf Clairefontaine! It proved himself an important personage in the parallel of the two clubs. As for the diverted products, the of nantes have a lot to learn while crossing the Sleeve... This partnership can it accompany himself of a financial investment from the English, through Vodaphone · « in any case, I do not imagine it similar to the one that secures currently The Havre to
Liverpool », already notified the president of the FCNA. A manner to say that the Canaries do not hear to become a simple filial club, and bequeath their sinama-pongolle and The Tallec... Desirous to establish a near school of the talents of the parisian pool, the FC Provide will equally pass to superior speed in his parallel with the Racing Club Paris and this as early as the at the beginning of January. « We are not more very far end of the tunnel. We installed a new president friend, in the denis-marie person Sintura. Again shareholders (the corporation Radoware) equally effectuated their apparition Friday last. It was a matter essential conditions to our parallel that is official today. The technical agreement will be able to begin under the conduit of Robert Budzynski. » The FC Provide does not hear to stop there its establishments as the confirms the president of the FCNA. « One looks for in fact to more better to work with Africa but for the moment I have not any idea specifies. » To Advance in order not to to back up...

I think that it's a shame that we are teaming up with Nantes. They are a terrible team, their stadium is a disgrace, and they treated us like animals when we were over there last season

We are the best team in France since we are in Ligue 1 (1963, and we have never been relegated since...). This season we are doing pretty good for a few months (we have beaten Paris-SG twice in Paris, and Landreau stopped a penalty in each match, one by André Luiz, the other one by Ronaldinho).

their stadium is a disgrace,

It isn't, it is the nicest stadium in France.

Did we ? Didn't you like the merguez ? ;)

If there is any truth in this, I can't see what harm it would do.

Shut up and craw back under the rock you went under when Ruud scored an injury time penalty against you :p

You can post all the pictures you want of your stadium, but I was there last year and it was one of the worst stadia that I've ever been in. Your whole town is a shithole too.

It means we'll get muppets like this John-John-John character on here all the time, I was hoping that we'd got rid of him when we dumped them out of the Champions League last season

Your memory seems to be as short as your vocabulary. I came here after the 1-1 in La Beaujoire, and after the 6-1 in Old Trafford.

I thought John John Johnnie John was alright last time, for an opposing fan, and since we're not playing them again and they kindly let us score 6 goals, I see no reason to be hostile to him.

Neil, he did my head in more than any other poster on here has done before or since. We got treated terribly in Nantes last year, and their stadium is worse than any I've been to in a long while.

Thats your perogative then. The stadium looked good in the pic - certainly better than the one in Nicosia, that was absolute shite.

It was just a shell, there were no toilets and you couldn't even get a drink of water at half time. The local dibbles were leading with the tw@t sticks as they kept us in the stadium after the match - worse over policing that I've seen at any Euro-away for a good while.

Well, the 6th one was not very far away, then.

so Filho this time putting out his feelers, things are starting to move on the cooperation front.
what kind of things can we expect a club like Nantes to teach us john-john-john-john-john-john?
are french clubs subject to a similar rule to the english rule of only being able to scout within a certain distance of your base?
how do they bring up young players over there differently to in eggland?

you must be pissed if you think your ground is better than the parc de princes or the velodrome.

The ground is certainly better. The stadium is good too.

Nantes is certainly one of the best academy in Europe, the best in France for 20 years at least.
The 90min rule doesn't exist in France.
I suppose there is a difference in the way of teaching football to kids, because the result is not the same. And France won WC 98' and Euro 2000 because of the french system of academies (Henry, Trézéguet came from Monaco ; Deschamps, Desailly and Karembeu from Nantes ; Zidane and Vieira from Cannes, etc.).
I don't know how are organized academies in England but it doesn't seem to be very efficient.

Do you think that you're being clever? Do you think that anyone has any respect for you or your smalltime, provincial French team? You could have the best stadium in the world, but you'll still never be as big a club as United. As it is you have a stadium that is in a terrible state, and if you think that you can get away with treating away fans like you do and not expect any reaction from me then you've another thing coming.

I came to talk about the partnership between our 2 clubs, not to say MU is smaller than Nantes.
If everyone in the world was fan of Manchester, it wouldn't be very funny I guess. But you don't seem to know that there are other football teams than Manchester, other leagues than the english one, other sort of footballs.
I love Nantes, not because I lived ther (I don't live there but in Paris), but because they are the second best team in the whole history of french football, after Saint-Etienne, and because they have the most beautiful game I've ever seen, in France or elsewhere. Our ex-coach, Raynald Denoueix, is now top of the Spanish League. If he learned so much in only 6 months to Real Sociedad, maybe Fergie is quite clever to show so much interest for Nantes and think MU still has alot to learn. I personnally don't have anything to do about Manchester, I just thought the news might interest somebody. If you are not interested, then you should not talk about it.

A team is not responsible for the police plan on a match. The fact is that English fans have a bad reputation : that's not my fault, nor the fault of the FC Nantes, is it ?

I just feel you are going a little over the top mate. OK Last year maybe you had a bad experience but as Neil says thats your prerogative. Being a life member of the Reds and living now in France, I think that a partnership with Nantes (the best youth Sporting Academy with Auxerre) is the best thing that could happen o us given that there have been recent concerns about the youth we are producing.

SO take it easy mate.....
