Is it really necessary closing threads like this? It was made three days ago, with BBC as source which means done deal. Why not just move the thread to the FF instead of closing it and telling people to start over again in the FF?

why would you want numerous pages concerning the transfer now that hes actually signed? surely you just want to discuss the player from here on in

It probably would have taken less effort to just start a new thread in the FF than it did to find this thread and complain.

Just wondering, why doesn't the megathreads rule apply to Entertainment and especially the CE forum?

The CE forum is a bit of a pain to navigate, with the discussion on yesterday's vote on Syria all being clumped up in a 6k post thread 'Politics in Westminster'. And it was the same thing with the whole Russian plane being shot down, all stacked together in 'Putin & Russia in Syria'.

Because the footy forums are the core of the site and require a bit more maintenance.

Okay fair enough, but could we at least have those megathreads threadmarked a bit better? Like for example, where the discussion about the vote on Syria started. Or any other big news that prompts a new round of discussion in those topics?

Thread starters can threadmark their own threads, so contact the relevant user and ask them to add threadmarks.

Bump.

I am not against megathreads but lately I can't catch anything in these big threads, it would be better if people or mods use threadmarks more. For example, THE BOMB thread has around 40 pages since yesterday.

Not every long thread is a 'megathread'. The bomb thread is all discussion around the same topic and having a new thread for every small 'update' would be a nightmare.

The same can be said for the Mourinho thread, that's massive and has been going on for much longer but it's all the same narrow topic (aside from when people spend ages talking about Giggs) so lots of separate threads wouldn't really be appropriate.

'megathreads' as we initially saw them were things like "all Rooney talk in here' and would cover absolutely everything about Rooney from the last game to his England performances to his kids to injuries etc etc and things are far better these days for that kind of thing on the whole.

You're right that threadmarks would be helpful, we can try to make more use of these.

A tweet view of each thread would be useful (ie only seeing each tweet embedded in the thread) for people I think. If it's easily achievable of course. It could still be bastardised even if restricted to verified users only somehow.

Yeah, as I said I am not against megathreads in general because we don't need new thread for every news but threadmarks are great option that should be used more.

I'm all for the more use of threadmarks idea. Especially when a thread title is changed and I end up trawling through 6 pages of shite, just to find out it was changed for something and nothing.

Definitely a good idea. We seem to underuse threadmarks around here. They make longer threads a bit easier to navigate.

This is interesting (and I missed it whilst in the newbie area) I lurked here for years and always thought of this as "the megathread forum" the cafe had loads more of them than any other site I have been a member of (I even carried the concept over to another forum I am a mod on) so its interesting if the site is moving away from that system. I always assumed it was encouraged by the mods, but maybe not!

We moved away from them a couple of years ago but years of previously reinforcing them wound up confusing various posters who didn't know whether to go with a mega thread or start a new one. The answer in most instances is to start a new one.
