I agree with that. We rely on individual qualities and I don't remember the last time we really played as team. Somehow our fans are led to believe we have to choose style or results and we can't play any other style than shit football hoping some magic will happen in games to get the result.

All the talk is about players, signings, manager backed or not, social media, downed tools, mentality when we should be asking why after 3 years we can't play as a team, why from 3rd in distance covered we went to 20th position for last 3 years, why our fitness is so shit that playing with half intensity makes players drop like a dead flies.

Bang on mate. Which is why I fail to get excited about any signing nowadays.

That is shockingly bad from Shaw, though not all that surprising when you watch him. Looking at his stats prior to joining United you can see he had a crossing rate of 0.8. How the feck has he not progressed in terms of attacking assertiveness? As others have said, he gets a pass due to their being more immediate problems that need dealing with, but something has to give on that left flank. Can't we get Evra in as part of the coaching staff?

Evra vs. Shaw comparison. https://bleacherreport.com/articles...vra-complete-comparison-of-the-two-left-backs

Our left flank is perfectly fine with Shaw, Pogba and Martial. We need an entire right side.

What would Roy want to strengthen up the team?

None of your duffers if that's what you mean, though I reckon we might be open to taking Dalot on loan or something.

Obviously a replacement for AWB if he goes but we also need:

1) A striker. Can see at least £35m of the AWB money going down on Batshuayi if Chelsea will sell him. Also been linked with Mitrovic at £30m and Che Adams and Neil Maupay at £15-20m each. We can't go in to another season relying on Benturkey that's for sure.
2) Wide player, hopefully as competition. Been linked with Lookman at £20mish and Ollie Watkins at Brentford for £15m.
3) Creative midfielder. Been linked with Seri on loan but we need someone that can create more from the middle, that'll really help our home form.

If we signed say Mitrovic, Watkins, Seri and a replacement right back that is easily the £60m gone on let's face it, pretty mediocre players. That is the market we're in so you can see why we are driving a hard bargain on the asking price.

If Wilf goes too then that really would blow things wide open.

I think Zaha will stay, I heard you'll go for Max Aarons if AWB leaves.

Yeah I heard that too but I think it's highly unlikely to be honest, we are more established obviously but he'll be moving on to a bigger club than us when he moves. We'd also have to pay upwards of £20m and I just can't see us doing that on a RB at the moment. Getting Clyne back on loan is more likely I think.

If we've put in a £40mil+ bid and are going for a second, this signing is happening IMO. We aren't going to move away from it. If the player is at all interested, he will likely just put in a transfer request and make Palace's decision for them. They will still try to hold out for more but they will not get a flat out £60mil, it's going to be some 'add-ons' to get it anywhere close to that IMO. This signing was done as soon as we submitted that first bid - it's just a case of how long until Palace cave.

It's mostly about attacking if you want to be a good team. You spend 60% of the game with the ball at your feet, and outscoring your opposition is what wins you games. And winning games is 3x more valuable than getting a draw.
It's not mostly about attacking. Ask Barcelona if they would have liked a couple of defenders who didn't wet their pants in the CL semi final. Good defenders help you attack better, and make your attacking efforts count.

Also the last line makes zero sense whatsoever. Your attack can be nullified by a poor defence.

If flashy crossing is everything, let's just go for Trippier.

Can't see him putting in a transfer request but for what it's worth I also think he'll be a Utd player next season. I also think the fee will end up being in the region of £55m plus add-ons, which is a fair price.

I agree mostly, but I think a request is possible if Palace play too much hardball and AWB is actually very serious about leaving. Like you though, I expect it to probably not come to that (you're probably just making sure you can get one of your main 2-3 targets in terms of a replacement before giving the go-ahead). My thinking is more if this drags as far as into July then it might come to the request kind of situation. If it's done in the next couple of weeks and goes smoothly it'll work out great for everyone.

I expect the money from this sale allows Palace to buy potentially three players without touching the designated transfer kitty.

I think what Barcelona would've liked is that they played their natural game at Anfield and managed to grab a goal. Because that would've killed the tie irrespective of what Liverpool could do.
Good defenders help you attack better, and make your attacking efforts count.

And you nail it there that's what good defenses do. But the pre-requisite to that is that you need to first be able to attack effectively for it to even matter.

For example in 15/16 and 16/17 we conceded the least goals in the league. De Gea played a big role in that but your keeper is part of your defense - however we couldn't score for shit, so it didn't really matter in the end. I can't remember the best attack in the league ever finished below 2nd.

Also the last line makes zero sense whatsoever. Your attack can be nullified by a poor defence.

Yes by a poor defense. You would have to have a really poor defense for that to happen. I just don't think it's worth sacrificing attacking potency for having a better defense - and defensive full backs does that.

It's also worth remembering most of the league is dogshit. So if you can't rely on your defense to keep them out, you can at least rely on them not to really punish you. You should be able to outscore them.

Our other problem is wages...80% of our turnover goes on wages which is the highest in the league. Selling AWB and adding 3 or 4 players to the wage bill with the money does not help us at all with that situation. Our owners are happy to pay to keep our best players at the club (ie Zaha 130k a week), and as squad players leave they are being replaced with sensible additions on reasonable wages like Kouyate and Ayew. I would guess that as much as selling AWB brings a lot of money in to the club, it'll also cause a headache about how we can spend it while remaining within fair play and STCC limits. Interesting times.

When does work start on your new stand? How is that being funded? Are player sales going towards it?

Apparently £100m was ring-fenced for the new stand when Harritz and Blitzer bought the club, so if you believe our board then the money is already there for it. I do not expect to see that stand any time soon though to be honest, and there is a lot of talk that H&B want to sell up anyway.

AWB is an absolute freakish outlier defensively.

Considering AWB was thrown into the team due to injuries and you lucked out that he's actually immense, I would say they see it as a free hit.

You could happily sell him for £50 and replace him with a decent premier league level defender and do a good job. I wouldn't be surprised if we threw in Fosu Mensah on loan again for a year to cover, think that would work out alright as he did well at Palace.

I don't think how he made his way in to the team has any bearing on what we value him at now, and as I said earlier £60m gets you three Championship players and a loan if you are lucky. All of those will be gambles...last season we finished with 12 clean sheets in the league to your 7, the sixth highest in the league and 1 less than Spurs. I genuinely believe we could swap those numbers around if you had AWB and we had TFM, so he is a very valuable player for us on the field.

I do not know the state of our finances, but if we are restricted by wages on who we can bring in then it's a no-brainer to keep him unless you pay what we ask for.

Seems to always be last ditch stuff with him, not sure if that’s a good or bad thing.

It's good with his tackling percentages. He doesn't mistime tackles either which is the most important thing.

I think he fancies himself in acceleration against anybody, so he's happy to let them try and run at him, then tackle them.

Other defenders would rather get tighter and risk a foul before hand.

If we want someone who wins the ball a lot, we should consider Ricardo Pereira - he tackles, intercepts, dribbles and clears the ball out of defence as often as Wan Bissaka, but is a superior passer, crosser and creator of chances.

Most take-ons completed is wrong. He attempted 90, completed 61 and had 29 unsuccessful ones. Wan-Bissaka is in 10th place in terms of successful dribbles, 2nd for full-backs though. Hazard, Zaha, Redmond, Sterling, Salah, Felipe Anderson, R. Pereira, A. Traore and J. King ahead of him. Decent company to be in.

Those stats are only for Premier League full-backs.

Doubt Leicester would sell and if they did the price would likely be no cheaper than AWB. Pereira is average at best as a defender and is not a youngster who can be expected to get any better at this point whereas AWB is already defensively the best RB in the PL and has plenty of scope to improve as an attacker.

It's still wrong, if you read the entire post. He's second to Ricardo Pereira and the 90 completed take-ons figure includes the unsuccessful ones, which is a bit odd.

You might be right. Aside from Pereira, Bouna Sarr and Youcef Atal also put up similar numbers to AWB in terms of tackles, interceptions, dribbles, clearances, aerial duels etc etc whilst offering a bit more going forward. All I'm saying is, if ball-winning is the priority, AWB isn't necessarily the only game in town.

His success rate in making tackles is unique and shits on all of those players.

One of the players of last year. Would be incredible to pull this off. Amazing depth and right side sort of sorted. Would happily promote dalot to be more of a pure Beckham like right winger. He does have outrageous amount of crosses in him and his technique while already is decent can become splendid with time. All to say, can't believe we can sign the best defending defender of last year. And we need this. How is this allowed to happen. If I were arsenal spurs or Chelsea I'd just be all up in this just to make it harder for us. There is no reason we should have such a clear shot at signing him.

Was just talking to a Palace fan, they have a cracking chant for him is “Your winger won’t like it, Wan-Bis-Sa-ka, Wan-Bis-Sa-ka". To the tune of Rock the Kasbah by The Clash.

Yeah, I live in SW london, so a load of my football team are palace fans. This is probably the thing I’m looking forward to most if he comes.
