I was a fan but its clear that he's reached the point of no return here.

There's been a lot of rewriting of history here, the current version or last season's AWB is not the same player as he was in his first two years here. Now he's hopelessly abject but he was one of our better performers in his first two seasons. A consistent 7/10 each week.

He joined the club as a raw player who had obvious deficiencies in attack but he was still a very good player and one who could be developed. In his first two seasons he would shut the whole right hand side from a defensive standpoint and was actually decent in his gameplay, he just had a horrendous final ball. He put up so many great performances in big games.

What's happened since then is he's regressed in all aspects. His defending which was his strong point isn't even that impressive anymore. His attacking game was already below standard and looks even worse now. What you're left with at the moment is a shell of a footballer. He absolutely has to go but posters pretending this is the same AWB at Palace or his first couple of seasons here are being dishonest.

This is a fair assessment.

Astonishing we paid £130m for AWB and Maguire.

The most certain thing this season is that AWB will barely feature unless we’re desperate.

I wonder how we'd have fared under Ole had we got Haaland and Bellingham. Both were very much attainable at the time. 20/20 hindsight a 70M release clause with Haaland going to Madrid wouldn't have been the worst outcome for us.

Unfortunately our big transfers were Maguire, AWB, Varane and Ronaldo.

The last clip is why Dalot is ahead of him. Dalot would be bursting his lungs to join the attack.

Was a myth that his issue was simply a lack of options. Like the blatant lack of ball security and technical ability would disappear in a system. He in fact looks worse in a system because he's now expected to play his way out of danger with limited control, technical talent or ball skills.

As per the reports we are close to agreeing 10m fixed plus 5m add ons

We'll see!
Would be delighted!

Knowing us the 5m will be £20 on 100 appearances and the rest based on becoming England captain.

Surely there's not a chance in hell we get 15m for Williams?!

And the rest of your post is pure fantasy.
We won't be able to shift at least 4 of those players.

Why not? Pool got £17m for Neco Williams.

Because we're dreadful at selling players, and will always have lashed them on insane wages?

Under Woody yeah, but with Andreas and Williams getting decent fees hopefully that's changed. Probably helps being junior players on lower wages as you say.

AWB plays exactly how he comes across in interviews. Just plain dumb and clueless.

I thought they'd banged Williams on 50k a week to be fair. But maybe that wasn't accurate. Surely it wasn't?

I feel sorry for him as I really liked him when he was signed and had a decent first season, but yeah, no way he stays this season.

So I’m guessing ETH isn’t a fan?

I’ve said it a few times but he’s like a player that would have been good back in the mid to early 2000s or 1990s when full-backs were kinda seen as another centre back but as someone who can put a decent cross in. In the era where full-backs have become the new wingers, he really doesn’t fit.

Should be looking for a move out, ETH isn't a fan and its obvious why.

Would be amazing business if we can recoup half of what we paid.

Best Prem loans for him seem like:

Everton - Patterson is young and there were even loan rumours and Coleman is probably completely washed. He'll defend all year and probably do okay.

Newcastle - Probably unlikely, but Trippier always misses time.

Southampton - Livramento out until at least January but presumably longer, and they really only have Walker-Peters and Perraud at fullback, though they've played some 3 at the back this preseason so this might not work.

Palace - They probably still like him and beating out Clyne and an aging Joel Ward should be possible or we're never getting 20-25M for him anyways.

Loaning him abroad seems like a bad idea, but this list isn't that inspiring.

Palace looks a decent option.

I just think we're at a stage where we haven't got to accepting that we're probably not getting any sort of decent fee for AWB. I don't think they really want to loan him, they want a sale as they know he has no future, but he's an awfully hard sell.

He needs to be sold and then quickly forgotten about. Up there with transfers like Lukaku and Sanchez who should never have been signed.

Hard to speculate, but it does seem like a classic example of where loaning makes sense and he can rebuild his value at a more defensive team.

Palace is the no brainer option if they do want him, they play some good stuff and a year under a coach whose.focus is on retention and playing out of trouble could set himself up well to have one last crack at it here if he learns.

Or he looks a more enticing option for another club and we get a bigger fee next summer than we would this one.

I thought AWB used to be a winger before he was converted to be RB. I cannot understand how a use to be winger is unable to go forward and cross. Instead waiting to be sold, he should be crossing the ball 500 times a day in training. Once ETH see that dedication, he might have a chance again.

He’s possibly already played his last game for United.

If it’s a loan deal, a move to Rangers or Celtic might not be a bad option.

Palace are the only realistic one in that list. Newcastle or Everton isn't touching him.

Assume we'd need a replacement in before letting him go but awfully quiet on his situation. Does anyone know why he wasn't involved over the weekend? Assume it was an injury or illness but nothing has been confirmed.

Yes. Didn't you know that you need to do about three seasons on loan before you can leave man united? See Peirrera and Williams as an example. Telles going on loan now so should be ready for sale by about 2024. Henderson will be ready for sale next summer so AWB has a long way to go yet.

Didn't realize his family speaks French. Maybe he'll get a loan to Ligue 1 to a team where we'll know that he'll start to rebuild his values.

Still baffling why we paid so much for him/bought him in the first place.

To be honest, I think its fairly clear that both Wan-Bissaka and Maguire were scouted with Jose Mourinho's style and system in mind. Somehow, when Mourinho left, nobody rebooted the system and we just kept on bringing in players suited to him despite trying to go in a different direction.

If you think about it, even Bruno is a Mourinho type #10: Hardworking, able to create stuff out of nothing and make the most of quick transitions. The kind of ace you need if you're not that bothered about patterns of play etc.

It says a lot about how United just allow things to drift that several of our targets have remained the same, regardless of who the coach is, and I imagine that's been a huge problem this summer: Ten Hag being presented with potential transfer targets who are completely incompatible with his style and ideas, just cos nobody thought to ask the scouts to take a look at his Ajax teams and suggest players who could do similar things to the players he's been managing.

Yeah there could be some merit in that as Jose himself was interested in maguire the season before. But tbf I also see those 2/3 fitting into Ole’s counter attacking system (even Bruno as Ole seemingly didn’t coach patterns of play either and relied on some individual moments). So might not have been completely about Jose.

Bloody great post. It's so true. They just took Jose's name off the dossier and put Ole's on.

Interesting point, you could be on to something.

would certainly be a reason why the main scouts were booted out shortly after ETH arrived. I’ve heard that nothing is put on a system, it’s all in their heads or written on paper. Makes sense why we’ve been directed to players ETH knows in the short term. I’m sure they will sort in out for the next windows after having recruited the new analysts

The AWB situation is weird.
We played dalot and Laird in two pre-season games, where the coach wanted most players to play 90 mins. Dalot is fine, clearly a part of ETH plans. Laird is about to go to Watford on loan. Still, he got a game over AWB.

To explain any of this, some AWB outgoing or injury news would have made sense, but there is nothing of that sorts in the news. So, I am confused about what the AWB/RB plan is.

Or hiring someone like a Paul Mitchell type who specialises in the area.
