A winger/attacking midifelder this summer

Would people be content if we get one CM this summer in the mould of Modric? He excels in CM and is also versatile, I can see him partnering with most our centre midfielders. Buying just one player also gives players like Pogba more oppurtunities to establish themeselves in the first team next season.

One CM yes but not if it was Modric. If we only get one CM (which I think is all we need) then I want it to be a holding player. Our attacking depth isn't a problem but if Carrick get's injured then we have no other options available.

Creativity is a problem. We can manage without, but ideally, another creative playmaker would provide an added dimension to our attacking depth.
 
I think the only way we'll sign a creative player is if he comes in off the wings or plays in Rooney's role. No way I can see us sacrificing a CM for one that is only in there to create. Our CM's are important to our defending and we'd suffer too much.
 
That's why I said a player like Modric, these types of players are very rare in todays game. Players that can play in a midfield two, that are creative yet provide the defensive attributes. Others I can think of are Banega, Sahin, and perhaps Gotze. Essentially we are buying one player that can play in various roles rather than buying two seperate players.
 
I think we are more likely to bring in this type of player than a striker if Berbatov goes. I hope it's one of Hazard or Gotze but won't be holding my breath.
 
Yeah, I agree. It's very difficult to find a CM that can play in a midfield two. You need the tactical discipline as well as defensive awareness to play there - it's a very rigorous role. But with the rise of 4-3-3 and the emergence of Makeleles, they are only going to become scarcer.
 
Javi Martinez is the perfect midfield signing for us. While his passing isn't on the level of Scholes's (whose is?), he's better defensively and has the energy and stamina to put in a shift like Park used to do for us, something which neither Scholes and Carrick can give us. However, I have a feeling that we'll sign Pogba and he'll be considered the midfield signing we're all after, even though I think he should go on loan.

In regards to Hazard, I think we should go all out to sign him. For the first time in awhile, one of these top young players would be willing to join United and doesn't solely "dream of Madrid or Barcelona". I know we are in good shape on the wings, but if we have an opportunity to get someone, who has the potential to be Ronaldo-like for us again, we have to do it.
