I don't know if it's available on VBulletin, but I've seen it on other forums. It's a box that sits somewhere on the page and lists and links the most recent posts in which you have been quoted so you and don't have to miss anything. And it's just handy in general as there's less of a need to go back into threads to see if anyone has responded to your posts, which is especially useful in fast moving threads that can be tedious to keep tabs on.

Is there any chance of getting it on here?

I've always thought this feature would be a good idea, would love it if it was feasible.

Just do automatic subscribing to every thread you post and then when opening the thread a simple CTRL+F and putting your username will find you where you've been quoted.

For multiple page threads, especially epic threads, that becomes tiresome.

I don't see the point really but I also don't see the harm so I'll ask Niall. As Weaste said I expect with will be an addon/mod so it will depend on their being a reliable free one for the version of vBulletin that Niall is running even if he does want to do it.

It's a fantastic feature. I'm active on one other forum apart from RedCafe, and they have it installed. It makes it so much easier to follow the discussions you engage in without having to stay logged in for multiple hours every day. Over at that forum I can essentially just drop in once every couple of days and still get continue the discussions I'm active in, whereas on the caf I tend to drop out from posting and just lurk around and read because I don't feel I have the time to engage.

As far as I can tell this is the option for vB3.8.x that I believe you're running here: [PORT] Who quoted me Plugin - Page 5 - vBulletin.org Forum

Works where the quote includes the ID, which I would say is the most of them.

I just got a PM from one of the newbies who dug out what seems like a much better mod than the one I suggested:

Hi there, I saw your post, but I cannot answer in the Quote Post notification. Anyway, I run a lot of vBulletin forums and this hack works for vBulletin 3.x and 4.x versions Quote Notification via PM - vBulletin.org Forum You many mention that so caf admins can install that. Here is the thread you mention: https://www.redcafe.net/f14/who-quoted-me-function-314743/ Regards, Val.

I reckon that'd be annoying quite fast - getting spammed with PMs whenever someone quotes you.

The idea of having a small panel at the top of the page or in your profile is much better in my opinion. I wouldn't want my inbox flooded with notifications.

I don't think you need to worry about that.

I assume the PM notification thing would be an option which you switch on or off?

Anyway this in general would be a good idea and I agree that a panel somewhere on the page or on your profile would be the best option.

The thing I'm talking about doesn't come with a PM notification. It's just a box that fits on the side of the page, listing the 5 most recent posts that have quoted you.

The PM notification is optional, and can (should) be deactived. The main purpose is that it creates a single page where you can see a list of your quoted posts, and with a small notification number somewhere in the top panel. Intuitively it would fit best in the Username box on the top right, just under View new posts or thereabouts: "1 new quoted post" or "Quoted (1)" etc. Simple, unobtrusive yet extremely useful.

I suppose it can, but it's an option. It's quite rare for people to get quoted in epic threads (that would be transfer threads) though, as everyone is just posting and completely losing track of who posted what where.

I wouldn't mind it as long as you had the option to turn it off.

How about now? Nialls online, should I pm him to show him the thread?

I second the motion of speeding up the implementation process of this. If someone already firsted it, that is. If not, I first it.

Any updates on this matter?

Discussions are ongoing and while this is one of a number of modifications Niall/modmins like the idea of there are a number of server and software issues both current and future that we want to resolve before making to many changes. Sorry I cant be more specific.

How much bandwidth does this site use?

I have a hosted account that I rarely use but has 30 or 40GB of bandwidth per month. You guys can use that if you want additional bandwidth (I don't know how to share a site across two servers though). Maybe different subdomains, i.e. www1 or www2.redcafe.net

Many multiples of that I suspect. Thanks for the offer but I suspect sharing a virtual server with the current dedicated server(s?) would be a technical nightmare. It also isn't so much about a small increase in cost but rather more about structural planning for the future before we move.

I think askabobs basically saying Niall should feck off in his attempt to steal Redcafe.

So is there any progress with this potentially being added?

Not that I've heard. I think Niall is waiting to see how the new owners of vBulletin develop the software and is also planning server upgrades during the year which will help performance etc. So don't hold your breath but we haven't forgotten either. The same goes for the Caf mobile add on.

I don't see how it can work anyway, because you would be able to quote someone without the system knowing about it, even without clicking a quote button - copy and paste. In such a case, it wouldn't show up!

So because there might be one or two non-quote-brackets quotes per month which won't show up on the Who Quoted Me page, the system doesn't work?

It's not like there would be any benefit of fooling the system. You quote someone because you want them to read your post.

The point is, that many people quote in different ways, and if you can't view everyone that quoted you, it becomes rather pointless. How would it even work? The system registers the quote on the press of the icon, or it registers it on the name in the quote? Think about that for a second. Also, even when the system registers it, some of the more prolific posters would have a massive list of quotes. This will over the entire board take one hell of a lot of storage space, and someone will have to pay for that storage space, and it won't be you. If it has to be done at all, then the most sensible solution would be to send an e-mail to the person quoted, but it still goes back to the technical issues and the ability to abuse it, and if people can abuse it they will.

I've hardly ever seen anybody quote in a different way to the norm on here.
