A white guy won the 100m!

It was only the Europeans.

The downplaying of the European Championships really annoys me. Since when did it apparently become so lame to be the best in the whole of Europe at something? It also seems to afflict just athletics - no one downplays Spain's achievement in winning Euro 2008 just because Brazil and Argentina weren't there, so why are people so dismissive of athletes winning gold in the absence of the Americans at the Euros?

Because these are much easier than the football equivalent

Look at the 100m time he won it in, it's a world away, I'll acknowledge that some events are a world class field, but a lot of others aren't

Granted the Euros in track terms these days isn't the pinnacle of the sport (see how many medals Britain will get on the track in the Worlds next year, compared to the bonanza in Barcelona), but what is most impressive about Lemaitre is his age. He's only just turned 20 and is the 4th fastest junior of all-time. If he continues to improve it will only be a matter of time before he becomes the fastest European of all-time (Obikwelu 9.86, Christie/Chambers 9.87) and then he will be a genuine contender for medals at the Olympics and Worlds.

Not swimmers. Black people are also more muscular so they will sink more though. Also the added muscle will cause a greater increase in lactic acid so the longer distances are out of the question, the 50 and 100s are certainly doable though.

They are coming after you white (swimmers), next golf!

Well apart from the previously mentioned body fat issue, black people typically have higher bone density as well which reduces buoyancy. The increased muscle mass compared to white guys also reduces buoyancy as well as muscle is 3 times heavier than fat i believe.

The US have a black swimmer coming through though i think. he was either in their olympic squad in Beijing or is training for the next olympics. If this had been asked 6 months ago I could have given a properly detailed answer, but I've forgotten everything I could remember about the issue

Jimmy the Greek!

Isn't it true that blacks are rubbish at swimming because of their massive penises?

:nono::nono: They are used as rudders instead.

Actually a competitive level swimmer told me that the best physique for swimmers are those with long torsos -- Michael Phelps has a long body will allows them to skim across the water.

Jeez.. its starting to pour now...

Not pro yet, no. But there will be, and they'll be fecking amazing. 46 mins up the Alpe d'Huez with a regular bike, no support, and minimal local training? Wow.

46 mins on a regular bike with no training? The record time by Marco Pantani is somthing like 38minutes, and that is whilst loaded with EPO and with the most high tec equipment possible. So I doubt the 46minutes is correct... unless they did train and have proper equipment (or took piles of dope).

Cervelo have recently signed a 21 black rider from Eritrea. Apparently they expect really big things of him.

You would expect Africans to make good hill climbers and sprinters considering the similarities with track & field long distances (climbing) and sprinting. Having said that, riding a 3 week tour, with stages of 200km every day, also involves a lot of strength & stamina, something Africans do not necessary excel at.
The biggest problem will be the expenses; unlike running cycling costs a fortune. However, cycling is already a lot more popular in parts of Africa then you might think. THere is an African pro tour with African teams and it’s very popular.

Regular racing bike, they trained in Kenya on dirt roads. And by running up skyscrapers apparently - it's cheaper to ship one bloke and a pair of running shoes to a vertical marathon in New York than the cyclist, the bike, the support staff etc etc to a proper cycle race.

I think they will be very successful. There's got to be at least one Kenyan who can climb like a beast.

I certainly agree, but I don't think they will dominate the a sport as they have with the long distance running (for example) because the factors stamina, strength and not to forget steering skills will be great levelers.
