A frenchman won the 100m at the Euros tonight.

When did a honky last win a 100m final?

Alan Wells?

It was only the Europeans. But he is the first white man to run sub 10s, so for that I give him lots of credit

And the winner for racist thread of the year goes to.....

It's not a racist thing. When Lemaitre broke his record and time a 9.98 s in a 100m he became the first white runner to go under 10s.Every media in the world branded like that and talked about this event in that manner.
He said he didn't care and that it wasn't a race issue.

I fear that the whites are coming back again and rule sports again. This maybe the beginning of a white tidal wave.

my wife is a swim coach and she says it is due to bone density in black people

Personally I think its an economic reason -- not many good pools in the black or economically disadvantaged areas. Plus swimming is an expensive sport to fund at primary/high school levels without too much financial/occupational output -- unlike American Football or Basketball.

btw. The US team has a black guy.

 but he just won the race?

White boys are fatter, they float better.

Not swimmers. Black people are also more muscular so they will sink more though. Also the added muscle will cause a greater increase in lactic acid so the longer distances are out of the question, the 50 and 100s are certainly doable though.

Yeah, and he was the slowest guy. When I was in high school, we had one or two black guys on our team in a town that's about 50% black. Other schools we swam against had more black guys/girls, but they were just starting out so they weren't very good.

I remember seeing the kid, Eric Moussambani, from Equatorial Guinea in Sydney. I would have beaten him in a race by a minute when I was 18. There aren't many pools in Africa or other poor regions so there can't really be any good swimmers. That's why most of them come from the US, Europe, or Australia.

I've always wondered why you never seem to get any world class black swimmers.

Well apart from the previously mentioned body fat issue, black people typically have higher bone density as well which reduces buoyancy. The increased muscle mass compared to white guys also reduces buoyancy as well as muscle is 3 times heavier than fat i believe.

The US have a black swimmer coming through though i think. he was either in their olympic squad in Beijing or is training for the next olympics. If this had been asked 6 months ago I could have given a properly detailed answer, but I've forgotten everything I could remember about the issue

Heh, heh, I wasn't being scientifically accurate. The 100m freestyle is about equivalent to a 400m track so anything over that is probably heading for a middle distance rather than sprint event in track&field terms

He's still skinny, when he bulks up he'll go faster. Though he's still always going to loose 3 yanks and 3 jamaicans in the olympic final.

Tim Duncan swam for his country too? I wonder if he would be any good if given the right environment & training, or swim outfits -- considering that they cost a bomb and can be used only a few times before tearing.

:nono: The expensive ones are short lived. The more reasonable ones are longer lasting. He's from the US Virgin Islands though. They probably have some pools. After training in a legit pool with other people, Moussambani cut a minute off his 100m time. That's still a long way off most other olympians, but it's a lot better.

Tim Duncan's probably too big, lol.

Really? So that is why the best distance runners in the world tend to be black or of north african descent?

All that muscle will cause a greater increase in lactic acid, so winning marathons and shit can't happen?

Black people have higher butts too I heard, and Asian girls have horizontal vaginas, I'm pretty sure that is true as well.

He must be a black guy in white face paint amirite?

There are two African genotypes: West African characterised by a preponderance of fast twitch muscle fibre and East African characterised by slow twitch fibre. This gives West African genotype an advantage in explosive athletic endeavour and East African an advantage in endurance events. European genotypes are more closely aligned to East African ie they are biased towards stamina over speed.

Just saw the Gay-Bolt race.

9.97? Awful start, head moving all over the shop and then he slowed down in the last 10 meters.

He blatently wasn't ready/arsed about this particular meet.

Gay did well, good to beat Bolt. Upset about Queer though, however Ponce did alright. I fully expect Homo to do much better next time.

Out of shape. His form was very ragged. Gay posted a very respectable time on a relatively slow track.

That sounds about right. Also, the East Afrians are usually from Kenya or Ethiopia, where spending their life at high altitude gives them a training advantage. East Africa hasn't had a sprinter of note since Seraphino Antao.

Without a doubt. He's on the comeback trail. It's just hard to compute Bolt running so slow given what we've seen before. He is human.

Also, this will be good for Bolt. There was a BBC documentary fronted by Michael Johnson that profiled Bolt, not too long ago. The impression given was that he was massively laid back and didn't take his training too seriously. That's not ideal at the best of times, but on the comeback trail, especially so.

I believe that Alex was talking about swimming not running.
