6 realistic signings to improve us?

Two more goals for Bowen today to win his team the game. He's now on 44 Championship goals since the start of the 17/18 season, more than any other player. The only players with numbers close to his are strikers, his goal record compared to other wingers is ludicrous.

His manager after the game: "Jarrod’s top class. In terms of goalscoring from a wide player, he’s top, top drawer. Anywhere he plays he’ll have an effect on the game. He delivers every weekend and, for me, he’s the best. He’s grounded. It’s not me over-hyping him, it’s there in black and white for everyone to see. We feel as if he’s getting better and better all the time. He’s the best in this league – honestly, he really is."

Still hasn't signed a new contract. If he doesn't renew in the next two months then I expect there will be several PL teams bidding for him in January. Hopefully we are one of them.

Yeah Bowen in January could be awesome. Kalvin Phillips is another from The Championship heading for big things.

Would be a shrewd purchase, he would probably cost the same amount as James. I would be surprised if we arent looking at him as he played under Phelan too.

  • ST: Haaland
  • AM: Maddison
  • RW: Sabitzer
There are so many good players out there that would tremendously improve our attack, its an absolute joke to use the British core excuse.

So our idea of young passionate british core is finding bargain basement deals in the championship.

Simply yep, the top British players will have more options and will not come to this team in its current state.

We need players to hit the ground running, not the Fred model which takes time to settle.

Was just thinking that. Surest way for relegation that I could think of. I think the jury is still out on James. He's been one of our best players but I think that says more about our squad than Jamess actually pedigree. Having 2 or 3 of the same type of player is just a recipe for disaster. People are setting our bar so low it's incredible.

If we want to go British we go for Kane, Sancho and Maddison. We're one of the richest clubs in the world and people are looking at 4th rate players to make us great again. Come on people. I know things are bad but are they really that bad?

This is the realistic transfer thread. Not the 'let's just buy Kane and Sancho' fantasy thread.

If the people at the club were somewhat not incompetent, they would sign the high performing players from the championship as cheap players to improve the squad, not the first 11. Their cost would be relatively low, they are good enough to not look like sh*t in the EPL and they would still have a good resale value two years later if they are not improving/performing for our club. Ideally, James would have been an example of this, but since our squad is sh*t we have to start him. Good on the counter, but unproductive against a set defence.

Some players perform better at a higher level with better teammates, while others do not.

The reason they looked good is exactly because they're playing against championship teams. They wont be so effective if they're up against equally elite opponent.

What I was trying to say was that some players will not necessarily perform worse when playing at a higher level. I agree that individual players like Pepe will not perform as good when playing against better opposition and defenders. Players own ability to pass, physicality and perform as part of a unit will not always fall.
Maddison is a good example of this: In the Championship he was able to dribble a number of players and in general wreak havoc against the weaker teams in the division as an individualistic player. This part of his game is not as efficient in the EPL, but he is still able to cross, play good passes and perform as part of a unit at the same level for Leicester as he did for Norwich in the Championship.

ST: Haaland
AM: Bruno Fernandes / Maddison
DM: Ndidi / Zacharia

Two of these could be bought in January.

Which AM do you prefer between Bruno Fernandes, Havertz and Maddison?

January:
1. Kalvin Phillips (DM)
2. Havertz or Olmo (AM)
3. Haaland (ST)

Summer:
1. Sancho (RW)
2. McGinn (CM)
3. Zakaria (CM)
4. Maddison (AM)

Sell:
1.Matic
2. Mata
3. Bailly
4. Lingard
5. Fred

Team for 2020/2021
GK - DDG, Romero, Grant
RB: AWB, Dalot
LB: Shaw, Williams
CB: Maguire, Tuanzebe, Lindelof, Jones, Rojo

CM: Phillips, McT, McGinn, Pogba (will he stay?), Zakaria, Garner
AM: Maddison, Havertz/Olmo, Pereira

Wide Forwards: Rashford, Sancho, James, Chong, Gomes
Centre Forwards: Haaland, Martial, Greenwood

Donyell Malen
Thomas Partey
Jadon Sancho

Squad for 2020-21
Martial Malen Sancho
Pogba McTominay Partey
Shaw Maguire Lindelof Wan-Bassaka
De Gea

Rashford Greenwood James
Fred Garner Gomes
(young FB) Fous-Mensah Tuanzebe Dalot
Romero

Ship out all/most of Matic, Mata, Jones, Bailly, Rojo, Young, Lingard, Pereira, etc.

Haland - Good chance Salzburg will be knocked out of Champs League so a deal could be done.

Bowen - Plays in a position where we literally have no one and has potential to make step up.

That would blow the budget so not bothering with a third. Ideally would bring in a midfielder but think that has to wait and be funded by selling Pogba.

1. We need an AMC quickly. Im not sure we can get one in winter. Whoever we get from Havertz or Maddison for the future will be a really good investment. Prefer the German.

2. If we can get an AMC in winter. Then it is (high) time for the RW in summer - Sancho. Give Dortmund the money and get him in.

3. Tonali - our team needs someone to dictate the tempo and be our defensive Pirlo. There we have him, we need to push for him in summer (plan B - Neves or maybe Fabian Ruis from Napoli)

4. (Optional - Check how Haaland develops until end of season. Though OGS doesnt want a typical striker, maybe we can play with a poacher after all. If OGS is still here next summer of course. BTW aside from clinical finishing can someone add if he has at least a little from the Kane ability to involve the others and keep the ball while the others come for the counter?

If we buy most of these guys (especially Tonali and Havertz) we can sell Pogba if he doesnt want to be here without a lot of fuss and regret.

We know the GK ans defence. Then we have:

Tonali Mctominay
Sancho Havertz James/Rashford
Martial/Rashford/Haaland

Sign up the kids!
- Olmo
- Moussa Dembele
- Soumare (who btw is offcontract so we can snap him up cheap in January should we like)

Cm: Tonali
RW: Bowe

The 2 positions which I feel we need to strengthen most. I have faith in Rashford and Martial. I feel if they are supplemented by better team mates then they will get the goals.

Then go all out for Havetz/Maddison in the summer!

Milot Rashica - a pacy winger who can get you goals and assists and on top of that can operate on either wing or behind the striker. He was amazing in the second half of last season for us, scoring important goals. He started this season really well with 2 goals and 1 assist in 3 appearances despite being hampered by an injury.

I would love for us to keep him but Werder was only ever going to be a stopover on his way to the very top. I think a transfer this winter period is unlikely but not impossible. Either way he is a quality player that would strengthen any team in my opinion.
From his stats: Right-footed Kosovan, aged: 23. Began his career in Holland. Plays for Werder Bremen, mainly on their left wing. Contract up: 30-Jun-2022. Has also played RW, CF, and support striker. Does well from the right-wing. He can also tackle. Dispossessed too often for my liking. Nor is his first touch perfect either. Doesn't make a lot a passes during a game and his distribution isn't good enough for United; that tells us he's not a core player for his team. I don't think he's be a great improvement (or any improvement at all) on James or Rashford from the wings but is an obvious improvement over playing Pereira on RW.

Ryan Fraser or Jarrod Bowen are more realistic signings for us. Their contracts end next summer and they have experience of English football's intensity.

ST: Håland
AM: Eriksen
DM: Dier

They are realistic signings for the following reasons:
Eriksen will be out of contract in the summer and is set to leave in January.
Dier has fallen down the pecking order with Tottenham and could leave too.
Håland already played under Solskjaer and they are in good relationship.

Partey, Ziyeck, Belotti
Gives us everything we need.
Bellotti is strong and quick and a fighter and can be the number nine we need against park the bus teams. We need another type of striker in these games.
Partey will bring the defensive stability to free up Pogba and Ziyeck can play left or right and interchange with our current attacking players. He brings goals and assists.
All a good age with the right attitude and are gettable.

Bowen (RM/RW/RF/RS)
McGinn (AM and/or CM)
Phillips (DM)

All three would be improvements on our current options in respective positions, except for McGinn over Pogba. Different type of players though, so they could play together in some games.

As for our attack on the right flank, some dynamism apart from our RB going forward would be great, and Bowen can provide that.

Regarding Phillips, I have watched quite a bit of Leeds in recent seasons and I definitely see a player in there.

They would probably be decently priced, so I view all of them as realistic signings as early as in the winter transfer window. I guess the only issue could potentially be around Phillips because he's a Leeds player and he's also born in, well…Leeds. Something that commentators do like to point out.

Why are people mentioning Dier? That ship has sailed, injuries have ruined him he's too slow and can barely move now.

I just hope we don’t spend all summer trying to get Maddison and Sancho, when it’s clear each player is going to cost an absolute fortune.

Alderweirald, Eriksen, Matuidi and Cavani are all available on free transfers this season. We need ‘some’ experienced quality players. Matuidi could come in to replace Matic for example.

Allan from Napoli would be a fantastic buy for DM.

I think we need a LB who stays fit, DM, CM or AM, RW and sub ST.

Allan
Eriksen
Haaland

Scholes has just said ozil short term, would you take him?

Absolutely not. Why would we want a player on £300k a week with a bad attitude? It’s comments like that from Scholes that make you realise why he’s a pundit and not in management.

Agreed. This idea of buying almost exclusively British players seems silly. Why limit yourself to an average talent pool for no reason?

This is the realistic transfer thread. Not the 'let's just buy Kane and Sancho' fantasy thread.

Why aren't they realistic? We're one of the richest clubs on earth. How do people think City and PSG got Aguero and Neymar respectively?

He comes up with lots of quotes like that tbh.

ST : Ibra loan or Mandzukic and then buy a established ST in the summer
MF : Bruno or Maddison
RW: Zaha (can play all positions and will fit well our attacking speed)

1. Sancho
2. Tonali
3. Chilwell

Sancho is a no brainer. A winger who can score goals is something we’re lacking.

Tonali has impressed me quite a bit. We need someone like Carrick, a calming influence who can pick a pass. I think we need to get away from the idea of the destroyer or works his socks off midfielders. At the end of the day if they can’t move the ball forward they’re useless to us. Problem we’ve had in midfield for years is we didn’t have someone who’ll take ownership and get the ball forward. Its been 20 passes to get the call wide or 10 passes to get it to Pogba for him to do it. We do that the other team gets back in their shape and we’re devoid of ideas. No more of this. We need a midfielder with balls.

Chilwell because we need a new left back. Shaw is unreliable and even when he’s fit he’s ok to decent. Ashley Young needs to go. He’s a liability at this point.
