6 Nations 2013

Based on that second half
I'm sure they'll be looking forward to it as well

Ireland defended very well in the 2nd half considering they played nearly half of it with 14 men.

Great game to kick start the six nations though, Wales deserve a lot of credit for coming out and playing the way they did in the 2nd half, Ireland had the damage done though and it wasn't to be. The England game next week should be a cracker now, I'm a lot more confident of an Ireland win after today's performance.

Wales definitely botched at least one golden chance with a clear overlap, Faletau was in their way

Ireland did defend well, but Wales had plenty of chances and opportunity, England wouldn't have any fears on the back of that second half display, that's not to say England will win - just that they would be buoyed by what Wales were able to do second half

Good win and performance by England. Encouraging to see them looking so aggressive at the breakdown and dangerous when in attack. Farrel getting better every game and Twelvetrees had a very good debut. Changes for the Irish game I'd bring in Foden for Goode. Also hope if Tuiliga is fit, I hope Lancaster goes for Tuiliga/Twelvetrees should make an awesome combo. So for Scotland, if they play like they did in the first half, no wooden spoon for them this year. Should pick up a a win or 2.

Agree with just about everything here. Especially Foden for Goode, although Brown had a few mares yesterday. Don't think he'll go Tuilagi/Twelvetrees as he likes Barritt's defensive work.

Safe to say we're all Italians for the day?

Good start for Italy
But that really should be it now, even with just a two point lead

Yeah they faded when the half went on, hopefully the can come out of the blocks second half but whoever gets the first try of the 2nd half is important. If its France thats game over. Italy need to just keep picking up their points with penalties/drop goals.

I take it all back

Italy lead by two. What price Michalak messing it up?
Been a good start to the tournament, really love the six nations, much better than the four nations and maybe even better for me than the WC

Not up to WC standards for me but I do love it and its on every year. Generally watch all the games too, its great because its so open.

I don't know
The WC is good in the latter stages, and the one/two decent pool games, but too many mismatches early doors

The 6N is pretty much decent quality throughout

6N is a great comp all round and the fact that it's every year and the players all get to build some animosity towards each other is class.

England look superb, so the game next week will be just crucial.

Was at the Stadium for the Ireland Game and it was bloody brilliant.

Completely dominated the first half and defended like champs for the second.

My welsh mate who got me the tickets bet a case of cider on the result. Quick detour on the way home via the Westons Cider Press and I now have a case of Westons Blue top cider!

Can someone explain to me (without getting all political) how there is an Ireland team in Rugby (rather than Rep of Ireland)?

Are there any other sports where the island of Ireland competes as one nation?

Every sport except for football for the simple reason that there are 2 FAs. Athletics is a strange one as the athlete can compete for Ireland or GB&NI

Athletics is like any olympic support, there is no all ireland body covering it. The reason people from NI can play for Ireland or GB in the olympics is due to the fact that they can hold either an Irish, British or dual passport. Its not a special arrangement as such between organisations.

If you are born in Northern Ireland, ie the 6 counties, you are entitled to have a Passport from Republic of Ireland as you are born on the Island of Ireland, also you can have a Brittish one becasue in Polititcal terms its a part of GB so if born in the 6 counties you can decide who you want to play for.
A bit like the decision Rory McIlroy has to make in the golf, he is from the 6 counties but has loyalties to Ireland and GB. He is torn.

It all boils down to the person and how they were influenced as children, I cant imagine anyone brought up in a Loyalist area choosing to represent the Republic of Ireland or vice versa. Its a personal decision at the end of the day as there is no Northern Ireland Team for Rugby.

Wayne McCullogh boxed for Ireland in the 88 & 92 Olympics.

Yeah, I am aware of why. It was just a pithy response by me to the original question.

Anyway, let's get back to the rugby. Huge game in Dublin on Sunday but I am confident that it is not the decider. A long way to go yet.

Ireland could very easily win against England and blow it against France. England have to play France and Wales.
Wales for me are a phenominal team and could very easily go on a winning streak on the back of that second half performance.
Italy, wow, two wins against France now in 3 years.

Better than the last World Cup for me, getting up early on weekends is sad! Poor United Aussies and/or Yanks.

But previous World Cups have been great.

Ballsy fecking ballbag.

The United Game is at 4 and Ireland vs England is at 3 on Sunday. I fecking can't be dealing with that kind of overlap!!!

The fact that you may be even considering not watching your nation is a fairly disgusting indictment and common throughout Ireland these days.

Not at all. The England game is a must watch as always! That said, I really don't want to miss any of the United game either. Careful planning and perhaps a scouting mission to check which pub will be best equipped to deal with this situation.

Oh you guys! Always so friendly and laid back when it comes to games against us..

The build up is like this with every team we face to be honnest. Everybody always wants to beat the English.

Hopefully the 15 are announced today hoping Lancaster goes with Man Utd and Twelvetrees but think he'll stick with Barritt.

What a terrible pundit/contributor Shane Horgan has become. He started out alright last year but has turned into a right wanker. He never shuts up, starts ever sentence with 'I disagree with <Insert name> there' before 5 mins of verbal diarrhea during which he actually establishes that he doesn't disagree at all. He cuts across everyone else all the time and spouts a serious amount of nonsense.
I had to turn off my weekly Rugby podcast from News Talk last night because of him.
Yes Shane, losing Gatland and replacing him with an interim coach will have a massive effect on Wales.

We're still bitter for those 800 years ;)

This did almost bring me to tears though:

That was a great day. There was a gobshite outside the stadium in a Celtic tracksuit holding a sign which read 'No to foreign sports'. Everyone was breaking their ass laughing at him.
Wasn't Croker great. Tickets for everyone.

That game is one of my all time great sporting moments. It literally couldn't have gone any better for us.
Just don't see it being quite as much of a dominant irish performance this time. Any scrappy win would be amazing.

Im heading into the Aviva do will miss all the United match. Some say to just record the United match, and watch it later, but I couldnt do that. If there is a match on, whether United, Dublin or Ireland, I cant not check the score every few minutes if I cant watch it.

I think we'll beat the English on Sunday, but I dont expect it to be a hammering.
