50s Fantasy Draft - antohan v Duffy

Who will win based on players in their prime, team tactics, balance & bench strength?

  • Total voters
    18
  • Poll closed .
Where's Snow when you need him? He spent the entire 70s draft banging on about 4-4-2 not being able to beat a good 4-3-3 or 4-5-1, had some Mourinho quotes on that and all... :(

Fergie's opinion > Mourinho's opinion.

442 is fine ;).

Yeah, it's better if we avoid voting in our own groups. Shame because that takes out three votes from people who should know about the players, etc. But it is the safest option.

I wonder what the point is discussing players in the thread for people to then just show up and vote on the grounds of "I know some players, I'll vote those". :wenger:

Someone voted against me because of Dalglish! Should have expected it.

Very close this one but slightly more cohesion has swung my vote towards Antohan, sorry Duffy! It was 49:51 and I almost didn't vote. On another day Robbo would have done his one-man rescue special

You were saying Simonsen was not Keegan's level and that if the basis to to compare them was goals you could compare the record to Jordao's. Comparing Simonsen and Keegan is apples with apples and his goalscoring record is way better. I'm not saying it makes him better than Keegan, I'm just piointing that out for those (like Rood) who think "Keegan=goals", "Simonsen=who?". What you did was say if it was about goals we could compare apples with bananas, Jordao never played at a level even remotely similar to Simonsen.

I pointed out the goals in big games because they indicate he shows up in the big games. I'm not saying Cabrini wouldn't. I even mentioned in my very first post this game had the two best fullback pairs IMO. What I'm saying is if anyone is going to give Cabrini a rough time, it is Simonsen, he is the worst player in the entire draft for him to be up against. While Briegel vs Houseman looks a lot more like a pocket job.

No, I personally think Keegan's a great player, that's why he was my 2nd pick, I didn't mean that in anyway to demean Simonsen, who's a great player also, Its just perferred Keegan.

Yeah fair point, I get what you mean about your wingers being able to give my fullbacks a good game, I think the fact we're discussing it so much shows that we both feel we have good side's and that they're well matched overall.

Do agree on this - it must be disappointing to lose votes just because of lack of knowledge or like Crustanoid said, he even got voted against because he chose Dalglish...I'd be PISSED!

No probs, glad you found it such a hard choice, must mean I've put a good side together!

Oh, you sure have a good side mate. I was looking forward to the test as we both have wide setups and it would give me a good indication of how much people rated certain players.

I think your fullbacks are comparable to mine. Mine probably edge it in attack, yours in defence. The midfield is more a question of styles/preferences, but it looks like people are not really visualising the beauty of Falcao and Schuster with a technically adept player like Lerby as the engine/workhorse. On the wings I frankly believe I piss all over you, and I suspect I've seen a lot more of Houseman than anyone voting on here (and do rate him, but nowhere near an equal footing).

That (the service and transition into attack) should have been enough to neutralise a very impressive duo upfront. Clearly it hasn't, which tells me a lot in terms of how to look at this going forward.

I do think my team would edge it but, either way, it would be a cracking game of football.

Definatly, and the feeling mutual.

I think it would be interesting if either of these sides came up against the 2 other sides seen so far (Nani Nana's and Crustanoids) as both of those teams are quite narrow, so it would allow more room for the wide players but less in the centre of the park, would make things interesting.

Brwned and Nani haven't voted yet. Here's hoping for a grandstand finish!!! :D

This is the point I'd be bringing on Rui Jordao to grab a winner!

Who would you drop though?

It is also the point when after chasing the game for 24 hours I could go all negative and bring on Chivadze to play out the draw.

Not a chance mate, momentum is everything!!!!

Your boys should also be more tired. Lerby once played two games on the same day, one in Dublin, the other in Munich. Schuster's and Falcao's game is based on the ball doing all the work.

Boniek's stamina was insane... Neal must be hoping the whole thing is over soon.

Keegan definitely, I'd rather have Blokhin throwing his weight about late on and hopefully allowing Rui some room, I'd trust him to finish a chance if he got one.

Oh, oh, wait a minute, Keegan just headed straight into Dasayev's hands.

Dasayev does a quick throw to find Schuster...

 At the age these lot are now I think they all want it over with soon. fecking Houseman's gasping for a pint!

Oh, what a ball!!!! Beautiful crossfield pass and Boniek's on the run...

Zibi Boniek just dribbles past Neal as if he isn't there. He cuts inside and towards Lawrenson... Simonsen is racing in on the right, Cabrini onto him....

Someone needs to knock the ball out of play, Schuster is still down injured from tripping over his Puma Kings.

Oh bugger...

The caf time is wrong, there's still about 10 minutes to go.

Super slo-mo for Morena attacking the rebound then...

Some people are on the pitch, they think it's all over, but its not because the Caf's clock is 5 minutes slow!!!

feck that, you can kick it out if Bats saves this ten-minute-long diving header...

I've been passing it back to him to pick up for the last 7 hours, back when these lads were playing there was no such thing as passbacks!!!

Fair enough mate, I'm sure it is tempting but the last thing either of us would want is someone deciding it on a whim! :nono:

:lol::lol: You'd celebrate though...you're PMing him right now with links to YouTube vids of Simonsen ain't you!!

Oh no, Morena's header was goalbound, Bats beaten, but one of the pitch invaders stops it with her supersize boobs...

Her phone has broken, she is in tears, the players console her while the ref tries to make up his mind.

Houseman is having a Bud with another pitch invader, this one with a supersize gut...
