4x100 Mens

3 gold medals for Bolt, 3 world records

Bolt > Phelps

Yea, apparently he ran a phenomenal bend, I thought they'd put him on the straight to take it home.

I think it's more a case of, he does the bend better than anyone else, rather then the bend being his best position.

Real quality though. Proud to be Jamaican.

me too!

You guys know who Tay Zonday is yeah, Chocolate rain guy?

Picture the 110m Hurdler from yesterday.. Same person?

feck ME :| That was stupid, I reckon if Bolt kept running at speed, he'd have came home in bronze medal position too rofl

Unbelievable another world record.Powell played as big a part as Bolt in that race.

Bolt slows down after the exchange but then decides he's gonna celebrate with Powell, so he powers up and actually finishes ahead of lane 8

Phelps won 8 gold medals and broke 7 world records...

8 > 3
7 > 3
Phelps > Bolt

Would you rather be the fastest man in the world? Or the fastest man who can swim looking like a butterfly?

I'd rather be Michael Phelps than Usain Bolt.

Really? then you're just an exception.

Most people would choose to be the fastest man in the world. It's a much harder achievement as well, the olympics is all about the 100m. Everyone can run, not everyone can swim. It's a very middle class sport. And clearly not all olympic medals are equal. A 100m gold medal is probably worth 3-4 medals in other sports.

How is it harder to be the best at running versus being the best at swimming?

If anything, I'd say it would be the other way around...

And in terms of what do you mean that a 100m gold medal is better than a gold medal in another sports?

Is it harder to win the 100m than it is to win a gold medal in javelin, high jump, 100m butterfly or skeet shooting?

Yes, the 100m gold is probably the single best medal in the Olympics--and I say that as an ex 800 meter runner. The winner is "the World's Fastest Man."
Of course it is harder to win the 100m--most of us in track ran the shortest distance we were reasonably successful at. If I could have run the 100, 200, or 400 and been competitive, I would have. I moved up because I wasn't fast enough. You'll also find that the other sports you named don't have near the number of participants (or wannabes) as the Century.

Way more people run, so competition is bigger hence it's harder. Swimming on the other hand is only strong in countries with strong sporting infrastructure, basically the develped countries.

The 100m gold is the most prestigious clearly. Do you really think winning a gold in yngling, 50m rifle or 200m medley is the same as winnig the 100m gold?

Good performance by the Jamaicans though it obviously helps having Bolt. Powell was impressive as well though.

Fastest man in the world > Fastest swimmer in the world. Especially when he won both the 100m and 200m.

Personally, I don't know how many out there do organized running versus swimming. I'm far from convinced it's more runners out there than swimmers though. Infact, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the other way around, but again, I know very little about this. Quantity doesn't always equal quality though.

Yeah I agree that the 100m is the most prestigious but you didn't really say that was your point, hence me asking in what terms you meant that a 100m gold > other golds... That doesn't make it harder than winning a gold in other contests though.

Everyone can run, not everyone can swim.

What if Bolt fell into the sea? He'd be fecked(assuming he cant swim).

Id rather be Phelps.

One could argue that there are more different skills required to become a good swimmer versus a good runner, but again, I'm no expert on the two so I for one is not going to take that argument...

I got a torrent from mininova
just saw it now

what a fecking run by the jamaicans

anyone know the timing of Powell's last 100? He put the other sprinters out of the camera shot.. I was told 9.3.. but fecking hell

I certainly think running is more about natural talent, so I think it is fair to say Bolt might be more talented. I know for a fact that Phelps trained everyday, holdiays, Sundays, etc. between 12-18 twice a day 2.5 each practice. That type of dedication is unreal and he really became what he is today then, it just took till these Olympics til he fully matured and delivered on his promise.

Even though I was a swimmer myself, I would have to say that yeah I would rather be Phelps than Bolt, mainly because in the US it seems swimmers have become more marketable than track and field stars(thanks to Balco and people like Marion Jones, etc). Also, even though swimming is far down the pipeline even in American sports, the United States are the best, the best ever, and Phelps is the best swimmer EVER, and thus will never be forgotten just like Spitz, but even more so considering the media in this day and age. Even though the guy is a twat it would be nice to be him right now

Also, Bolt's WR's in 100 and 200 will be broken(by someone other than Bolt, as I think he will certainly best his 100) before Phelps' 8 Golds are challenged

Running could be down to natural talent, but so is a lot of swimming. Doesnt Phelps have the perfect physique for a swimmer, long arms and short legs?

If Bolt was American, I'm sure you're answer would be different.

Probably, again because there are more people competing in athletics.

.

It would, think of the endorsements he would get if he was American, he could be a top notch Nike athlete, 15-20 mil for next 4 years, more if he does better

That has nothing to do with it, or else someone else would have had gotten at 5 or 6 golds in swimming before. Also, Bolt is just as sprinter, to be classed along Owens and Lewis imo, why doesnt he win gold in the long jump as well

What happened if a big feck off tiger was chasing Bolt and Phelps?

Phelps would be fecked (assuming he cant run fast)

Id rather be Bolt.
