Rubén Marcos Peralta
(6 December 1942 at Osorno, Chile – 14 August 2006 at Osorno) was a Chilean football player. Usually a central midfielder, he was well known for his versatility and stamina. Capable both in attack and defense, Marcos was also technically skilled and is one of the most highly regarded Chilean midfielders of all time.

During his career, Marcos played for Universidad de Chile, Palestino and the Chile national football team, and took part in the 1966 FIFA World Cup (where he scored two goals) and the South American Championship 1967. Estadio Rubén Marcos Peralta at Osorno was named after him.

jardine's a class act on the ball

jardine was one of the best full backs in the world in the 1970's

jardine is an absolute top class right back

He proved a revelation at right-back; a strong player who enjoyed marauding forward, he had an excellent turn of pace which ensured he was rarely caught out of position.

We aren't allowed to answer our own questions.

True.

Quite surprising that Jardine lasted this long, btw. I'd have thought Gio/Theon would've picked him up a couple of rounds ago, actually. Was even starting to think there was half a chance now - but I fecked myself over there, again.

Same here. Thought Gio would have wrapped him up long ago. Had to double check he was eligible just to make sure.

Pretty damn pleased with Gemmell and Jardine as a full back pairing, though.

Is @Aldo around? It would be nice if we got back up quickly. Let's up the pace a bit here.

Could backfire in terms of losing out on someone else I could use - but I'd rather not gamble on losing this guy: Lining up alongside Bremner as of old, readying that insane peg of his: Peter Lorimer.

True.

Quite surprising that Jardine lasted this long, btw. I'd have thought Gio/Theon would've picked him up a couple of rounds ago, actually. Was even starting to think there was half a chance now - but I fecked myself over there, again.

We never actually even discussed going for him at this stage. Certainly a decent enough player though and a nice pick for Skizzo.

Very surprised it took this long for Lorimer to get picked.

Several factors, I suppose: For me, he's a great fit - but he might be a great fit for the very reason why others would rather have someone more spectacular in a similar role: He's more of a midfielder than a winger, more of a team player than a skin-them-alive soloist, more someone you pick to complete a set-up than someone you pick to dazzle the audience...and so forth.

He wasn't picked in the all-time British draft either, IIRC. And it's not a reflection of his quality or his credentials - much more so a reflection of the fact that he isn't all that...shiny (not compared to the razzle-dazzle of a Johnstone or a Jairzinho). *

* Which isn't a slight on those players - horses for courses, really, that's the bottom line. In the British draft, for instance, most teams went for razzle-dazzle wingers - which made sense, since there were loads of them available, and the quality of fullbacks/side backs was much more questionable.

He was my next pick. Chances were slim that he'd get back to me though.....

So, a guy walks into a bar. He looks just like Hitler and the bartender says...where the feck is Aldo!!??

I hope Aldo takes more time. The more time he takes, the more time I have to research more options.

I haven't really acquainted myself with players born from the 40's. I know of a few of them, but not as much as most of you guys here. Are there any neutrals/spectators in here who can give me some guidance regarding researching these players?
