Do the news networks not kind of just nerd-out in a big way on election night and its actually not that partisan? Or am I forgetting how it generally goes.

I seem to remember them all just wheeling out their own version of Steve Kornacki and getting deep into the weeds of the electoral map.

They cried on CNN when Trump won

Contributing intelligent, well thought out posts would be quite sufficient.
I said I hope I'm proved wrong, but personally I just think she's on to an impossible job. A bit like the United manager in a way.

The US is way too divided politically, and it's got so toxic and venomous I can't see Kamala changing it. They already have their excuses and lines of attack drawn up at the ready. They have been using them as a reason she shouldnt be a candidate and they will use them for the entire duration of her Presidency be it one or two terms.

Simply being a woman means that will be thrown at her or used against her, as will her race and the fact she wasn't voted to run for President. She's already being called a liar for saying she owns a gun and also being called a liar for saying she's a Christian.

Saying she will put Republicans in her cabinet and give them a say on policy etc is all fine and well, it shows she's serious about listening to the other side and shows she wants unity in Government between politicians the same as she wants for the people in the country. However, Obama made that mistake and he just got fecked over and ultimately it cost him putting through some real changes. The other big downside is she will put many off for pandering to the right and true liberals or Dems on the left won't like her for it at all, especially if it causes issues getting policy agreed or put to vote etc.

Total unity is a fallacy anyway, it's never going to happen, but it's even less likely in the near future simply because of how divided the US is and because of how much hate and fear Trump and people like Musk have fed everyone day after day after day.

So it's really nothing to do with her being a woman, although that will be used against her, it's more that I just don't think the country is ready to be unified. If she gets elected though and did manage to repair the damage and being everyone closer together she could go down as one of the greatest Presidents ever given the monumental tasks and obstacles and opposition she faces.

I wish her the best of luck as it would also be the icing on the cake for Trump to have to watch her become so successful and liked. And even better if he had to watch it all from prison. But sadly, I can't see that happening either.

Also a feature, not a bug. See: Citizens United vs. FEC

I didn't know of that precedent and googled it, well, that's unbelievably bleak. Might as well give companies voting rights since we're at it.

My gut tells me that NC was a feint by Harris. Sure, they (and me!!!) would love to pick up NC, but it is not necessary. However, Trump absolutely needs NC, and energy spent here is energy not spent in PA or MI.

I suspect Trump wouldn't go down there unless Lacavita and Wiles were presented with some hard internals that things were much closer than expected. Their logic may have been that PA is very close and could go either way, but shoring up NC would mitigate against a potential loss in PA. Losing NC and PA on the other hand, would be curtains.

Yeah, that is my thought (re: NC). I don't think PA ends up being "that" close.

Anyways, might as well own what my thoughts on the swing states:

Harris: WI, MI, PA, GA, AZ
Trump: NV, NC

Obviously this is based on nothing more than vibes, but I am becoming less and less cautiously optimistic and more and more straight up optimistic.

I'm more optimistic now than a couple of weeks ago when I still thought Trump would win. That's obviously still a possibility, but the momentum going into the final stretch is definitely with the Dems.

Why quibble over a single vote when you can just buy a Federal Judge?

The whole fecking lot is bought anyway. It's getting eerily similar here in the UK too. It's always been present, but in the background. That changed over the last 14 years but not to the extent of the US.

Why aren't guns banned? Why isn't healthcare available to all? Why do big corporations and the rich continue to get richer and almost do as they please?

Until you get money out of politics and then educate the populace of the alternatives it's never going to change. Even if Kamala gets elected she's essentially just a figurehead without the other two branches of government on her side and even if they were she would still have the Supreme Court to deal with.

It's absolutely fecking sickening to see a country where so many are barely surviving, made bankrupt or dying due to healthcare and insurance costs, so many homeless, underpaid workers etc etc...... spend so much money, BILLIONS on an election that goes on for nearly two years. All the while asking voters to donate what many don't have.

At the same time everyday people have to watch politicians and policy being bought or sold. It's fecking obscene. However, it's strangely fascinating too, although ultimately very depressing when you look deeper than the whole distraction circus and see the damage being done to everyone except the select top few percent.

It's all the more depressing right now because of the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Very briefly, this is spot on, and in some ways the absolute worst part of Trump is that avoiding him makes candidates like Harris - who are very status quo - the only option.

I deem this post quite sufficient

Judging by the polls this is quite clearly going to be either a very big Kamala Harris win or a very big Donald Trump win.

Which is completely illogical from a statistical viewpoint!

Final prediction! Still iffy about AZ and GA, but feck it. Go big or go home.
I apparently ended up with the map as you . I am really tempted to flip NC, but I just can't (even though I want to!!!).

I know people who are poll workers in what is a pretty blue city here in the Detroit metro area and they had special briefings from the PD, a special command unit was assignment, and even have a safe word. They re also worried with some of the first time voters showing up not knowing they can't wear political gear at the polling location and having to confront them with that.

I know last time around they had people filming poll workers for like 12 hours straight. And yes it's pretty much all the local MAGA loonies doing it. This country is all sorts of fecked up nowadays. Still holding out hope the majority of people today has some critical thinking skills. Or at least more than about 8 or even 4 years ago.

Wonder why people are thinking AZ will be blue over the likes of NV. I have yet to see many if any positive poll for Harris from AZ for awhile.

 The electoral college is so fecked.
I noticed now that the new thing the clowns are posting and talking about every time someone brings up the EC and how we should get rid of it that "if we had a pure democracy it would lead to dictators like in Nazi Germany" and then they also mention other evil men of history saying that it's proof popular vote is not a good system because they wouldn't have gained power without it.

If it's not now I can easily see that being their next play. And when you think about it - it fits the playbook of projecting and hypocrisy to a T. And again millions of gullibles will be running with it. It's all so very predictable.

Its probably related to the fact that AZ has become a blue state in recent cycles. Two Dem Senators elected, a third on the way, and now a Dem Governor. Plus a bulk of the Dem votes are in Maricopa/Phoenix, which is only growing. On the other hand, Trump is well positioned to also get heavy turnout in AZ, so it will be close.

Kinda but it really comes down to like 6 or 7 states, a 2 or 3pt polling error either way probably hands them all to the same candidate - ergo 'big' win.

A fair prediction. I might swap AZ and NV. Would be great if she takes GA though, as that would confirm its shift to blue after two Senators and a Biden win in 20.

Aye, I’m basing that prediction on the Dems ground game there.

I also considered flipping NC - purely on the notion that the Trump campaign is supposedly uneasy

Yup

Do they know Hitler lost the Presidential election?

This is what I currently have. I've bought into the NC hype again. I was tempted to go blue for AZ but I can't look past the border issue there which I think could push Trump over the line in a close race.

You can say the same about any President. The country is so divided because of right wing media.

Even if she was to end poverty, fix the border, allow the economy to boom, have zero unemployment, find peace in the Middle East and turn water into wine, Fox News would still say she was the devil reincarnated. But it would be the same for any Democrat.

She may have a couple of Republicans in her cabinet, which could help her in the eyes of moderate voters, but Republicans in the House and Senate will still attack her over anything and everything.

If she gets in, her biggest issue will that she is unlikely to have a Democrat controlled Senate. She likely won't ever get to to sign a bill that allows women to regain their reproductive rights on a federal level, which I worry will mean that she will lose that huge womens vote for a potential second term. Unless a Democrat House keeps passing a bill to the Republican controlled Senate, who keep rejecting it. That allows her to then say that the only way we pass this is to vote for Democrat Senators, but the map does not look great in 2026 or 2028. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/democrats-senate-majority-politics-desk-rcna168281
