2021 Summer Olympics (Tokyo)

Wonder if Kenny will compete in Paris, still looking very strong. One of my favourite Olympians as she is such a sweet person too. One of the interesting things about cycling is how it's more about pound for pound strength rather than pure strength. Kenny weighs about as much as one of Chris Hoy's thighs but is arguably the greatest women's track cyclist of all time.

Women's Boulder starting, hopefully some better route setting than yesterday.

Meanwhile, German television showing horse riding:annoyed: there's just way too much horse stuff at the Olympics, I mean it's nice to identify which nations are full of posh idiots and entertaining to watch the riders fume when the horse just refuses to jump but surely it's time to bin this outdated garbage.

Isn't Germany one of the top horsey nations historically?

She's from my hometown. We have a gold postbox there still from 2012.

EDIT: Wait my bad. She's from near it and there's a Leisure Centre renamed after her but the one in my hometown is for Charlotte Dujardin.

Interesting the way the two speedsters both went with the right beta straight away but the boulderers/lead specialists keep getting it wrong.
Apparently it's also possible to do it this way as Noguchi just showed, looks a good boulder so far!

Just seeing the German girl on the horse and it doing feck all for her, her in tears and everything

One thing I hate about modern Olympics coverage is how in most places its so completely centered about one's own athletes, that so much sports coverage gets buried and one has to go to try to find it online. I'm fine with national media covering the countries own events, but I throw my arms up in despair when they use 40 minutes to interview the athetes family, coaches, colleagues and even people in the streets to talk about it when one could be watching something else.

What I most enjoy about the Olympics is watching irrelevant sports that I don't care about and see people from far away countries go completely bananas about them. And the Athletics of course

Rabatou with an excellent exhibition on how to *almost* finish the boulders.
Feel a bit for her but entertaining nonetheless.

Garnbrett has won bouldering before boulder nr 3. If I'm here I'm not even attempting it to save energy for the lead later. However she's been in the same situation in various bouldering semi finals in her career and she always goes for it no matter what, so let's see what she does here.

It was a brutal watch, really felt for her.

yeah agree, it was awful. It must be terrible knowing that your gold medal chances are going after all the work to that point and there's nothing you can do about it.

Never seen this laser run before. So strange but can’t stop watching.

Me too! I've never really watched this event but it's so bizarre it makes great entertainment. Also had no idea we were a medal chance in this but Kate French has absolutely bossed this laser run.

That was a good event with the lazer guns and another gold for teamGB..

What grinds my gears is when they don't even mention or list the name of the winner when reporting the result of their own athlete.

I thought modern pentathlon was quite fencing skewed but it ended up being the jumping that really changed things. You just get assigned a random horse and if they decide they're not riding for you then that's that.

Laser run was great, could be an event in itself.

Modern Pentathlon has horses? Maybe they need a 'Very Modern Pentathlon' with skateboard and BMX and taekwando instead of horses, shooting and fencing'. Lets face it, that would be an awesome comp that everyone would watch.
